efferman Posted July 6, 2011 Posted July 6, 2011 I want show in this thread some cranes in different types and sizes. my focus is on the part above the turntable and the movement of the booms to help you to build your own cranes. The First crane is a knuckleboom crane for Trucks with a width of 15 studs. The goal was that it fit on the new 8109 towing truck. So it should be not too fat in any dimensions. the part above the turntable needs only 8 studs from the vehicle length. In real this would be only 136 cm. now some pics from the folded crane the size makes it necessary to work with single pneumatic cylinders, so it is hard to get enough moving range without loosing too much lifting power. the first boom can move nearly 90° with a lever stroke of 3.5 studs (a L with 3x2 studs). The Second boom have the ability to move nearly 180°. The leverstroke is 1.5 Studs with two links of 3 studs and 2 studs. You will find the folder of this crane on Brickshelf and Flickr Quote
Alasdair Ryan Posted July 6, 2011 Posted July 6, 2011 (edited) Nice crane,is this the one you are building to with your unimog? I look forward to seeing more cranes you biuld, are you focusing on hiab cranes and pallfinger cranes? or will there be tower, mobile, self righting ,off road, city cranes to list a few. roamingstop Posted July 6, 2011 Posted July 6, 2011 You have got some nifty solutions to allow the off axis movements of the 'hydraulics' - something which has always been difficult in Lego stud lengths. It looks great... and as you write, provides good design ideas for Efferman lift-arms. Quote
efferman Posted July 6, 2011 Author Posted July 6, 2011 (edited) no, this little thing is a bit smaller than the unimog version 000_020 von efferman auf Flickr Hiab and palfinger? if you mean vehicle mounted knuckleboom cranes, i will say yes. But i am prefer the manufacturer Effer if have a idea for a non vehicle mounted crane, you will see it here too. at roamingstudio yes, sometimes i could need more x.5 links Edited July 6, 2011 by efferman Quote
efferman Posted February 1, 2012 Author Posted February 1, 2012 ok, the next crane is for the 9397 logging truck. i hope the dimension fits, because i have to wait till march to try it at the truck. the step for today is the column. i give it a little bit less fat looking next step is a mainboom with a full size LA as replacement of the mini LA. I want fold the crane above the Cab. picture source Quote
Alasdair Ryan Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 Your progress looks good,it might be an idea to add another motor to the arm (micro motor) for another function. Quote
timslegos Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 The crane looks cool. Are you going to add any additional functions to it? tim Quote
fitzi Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 (edited) Would love to see the pictures, but brickshelf is down again, damn it! Edit: Saw the pictures at flickr, well done, really nice design Edited February 2, 2012 by fitzi Quote
timslegos Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 Would love to see the pictures, but brickshelf is down again, damn it! I follow Brickshelf on Facebook and they posted a status that they are switching to new servers, which would explain the tech issues. tim Quote
efferman Posted February 2, 2012 Author Posted February 2, 2012 (edited) sorry i have no micromotor i think my logging crane for the 9397 is ready. hopefully it fits. only one thing is bothering me: could the 5 to 11 frame not be yellow? Edited February 2, 2012 by efferman Quote
AndroTech Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 Uau effe. Excellent work!!! I think this crane should fold nicely, and would look great, on the cabin of the truck. Quote
efferman Posted February 2, 2012 Author Posted February 2, 2012 thanks, but please wait with your praise till i have it motorised and made a video. the folding mechanism is a little bit tricky to get the correct timing. Quote
Alasdair Ryan Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 I look forward to testing your crane out ,It might be a idea to move the 'second' ram one stud 'higher',i can make a cad file for you when you finish if you want. Quote
timslegos Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 I really like the crane. it folds really well and has a large range of movement. I am looking forward to it! tim Quote
tduby Posted February 3, 2012 Posted February 3, 2012 I know you said to wait but this is a nice design does it unfold under its own power or does it need a little help to get moving? Quote
efferman Posted February 3, 2012 Author Posted February 3, 2012 there is only a little bit gravity at the right point necessery. the vid will show it Quote
efferman Posted February 3, 2012 Author Posted February 3, 2012 (edited) the vid is finished and it seems that the mainboom should be two studs longer. why? look the video Edited February 3, 2012 by efferman Quote
Alasdair Ryan Posted February 3, 2012 Posted February 3, 2012 (edited) Looks great. If you want you could send me some pics for a cad file, also i would like to fit it to my own if that is right. Edited February 3, 2012 by Alasdair Ryan Quote
efferman Posted February 3, 2012 Author Posted February 3, 2012 tomorrow i will make some pictures Quote
timslegos Posted February 4, 2012 Posted February 4, 2012 Video looks cool. i like the way you managed to fold up the last boom section, very clever. Do you think you could add a simple extending boom on the end? tim Quote
