FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LEGO® STAR WARS® Premieres an All-New,

Original Animated Special on Cartoon Network

Premiering Friday July 22, LEGO Star Wars: The Padawan Menace™

Will Feature Signature Family-Friendly Fun, Spirited Action and Irreverent Humor

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (July 7, 2011) – After the runaway success of their wildly popular building sets, video game collaborations and animated shorts, The LEGO Group and Lucasfilm will join forces once again for an all-new adventure – their first-ever original television special. Premiering on Cartoon Network on Friday, July 22 at 7:00 p.m. (ET, PT) in high-definition computer animation, the 30-minute original standalone special – LEGO® Star Wars: The Padawan Menace – will feature the charm, action and irreverent humor that have become the signature style of LEGO Star Wars animation collaborations.

Featuring situations, characters and locations from throughout the entire Star Wars Saga, the original adventure is written by Emmy® Award winner Michael Price (The Simpsons) and produced by Academy Award-winning Animal Logic, the production company behind Happy Feet.

“We’re certain that fans of LEGO play and the Star Wars universe will be as excited by this new original animated LEGO Star Wars episode as we are,” said Jill Wilfert, vice president of licensing and entertainment for The LEGO Group. “Developing original animated content leveraging the LEGO and Star Wars brands is incredibly rewarding for us because it not only engages and entertains fans in original stories and adventures that further their imaginative play, it authentically delivers on the inherent values and fun that LEGO play brings to the partnership.”

To date, Star Wars is the first and most successful LEGO licensed product collection in the company’s history, generating more than 200 LEGO models and approximately 275 LEGO minifigures inspired by the Saga, which has also spurred a blockbuster collection of videogames, selling 25 million units to date worldwide. In addition to its popularity among younger fans, a significant portion of the LEGO Star Wars consumer fan base is made up of nostalgic adults and franchise collectors.

LEGO Star Wars: The Padawan Menace is scheduled to air multiple times on Cartoon Network during the weekend including: Friday, July 22 at 7 p.m. (ET/PT), Saturday, July 23 at 10:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. (ET/PT) and Sunday, July 24 at 4:30 p.m. (ET/PT).

A routine Jedi Academy field trip is turned into a rip-roaring comic adventure in LEGO Star WarsTM: The Padawan MenaceTM. Tour guide Master Yoda leads a group of rambunctious Jedi younglings through Senate chambers when he senses a disturbance in the Force. Summoned to help save the Republic, he discovers that one of the younglings secretly boarded his ship…and has a taste for adventure! Meanwhile, C-3PO and R2-D2 are put in charge of the boisterous group and find themselves in over their heads. As the evil Sith prepare to wreak havoc, it’s up to Yoda and the droids to ensure that their young charges aren’t torn to bricks!

Can't say I'm that excited for this, but it's a LEGO animation, and they're usually pretty good regardless of OT/PT/CW style and storyline. And it's a whole half hour long, so there should be more time for the story to develop and mean something other than 'bunch of Jedi kill bad guys with humorous scenes in-between', as opposed to previous animations like Revenge of the Brick. And hopefully the appearance of Eta-2s foreshadows a similar appearance in the CW show.

I read about this a few weeks back on FBTB.

I did too, and it was posted in the Rumors Topic, but the press release is new. We had a separate topic for The Fastest and Funniest Lego Star Wars Story Ever Told - The Prequel, so I figured with the new info and pictures this deserved a topic of its own. Edited by Brickdoctor

Well in the third pic shown above I believe I see some Eta 5's in the background with Threepio and R2. Could there be a remake for that ship in the near future?

The animation looks good, and we can look forward to at least some new designs, even if they aren't made into sets. And if a writer from the Simpsons is on board, then it ought to be good.

Eta-5s? Those shouldn't be around yet...

Oh, you mean Eta-2...from what I can make out, the ones in the screenshot bear a strong resemblance to the one from 7661, so I wouldn't expect much difference in a future release.

Of course you are correct, sir. I have been attempting to brick build an Eta 5 so it must have been on my mind when I commented. True it does look similar to the previous models released. I do think some color variation would be interesting, though. Back on topic this does look like something that I would want to watch and I for one am looking forward to it.

Just watched it in 720p. Very funny and nicely made.

I hope more eps will come.

And general Grievous ship is awesome,

hope it comes out soon.

Wow I was expecting to come in here to a shot for shot analysis of it and all the new gear we'll see in the 2012 runs :)

Oh well I'll pipe in first then -

Here's hoping for a new Jabba with large molded Rancor :)

And perhaps a Cantina.

But if anything a paused screenshot will give hints how to build some Senate pods or that Droid sitting outside the Cantina!

All in all, a bit of fun and yep, let's hope for some more - I'll help it along by picking up the Blu-ray.

I've seen several people mention new sets after seeing them in this special (mainly Jabba).

Is there some historical precedence to think this may happen, prior specials spawning sets? Wishful thinking?

Not really. The video games have always been models created for the games specifically, and by TT employees and not TLG, and I'm pretty sure Revenge of the Brick had only already released sets and alternate models of those sets.

If I remember correctly 'The Quest for R2-D2' showed the new General Grievous and ARC-170's (I may remember incorrectly though!!)

I really like this first episode. It includes some funny scenes with darth vader and loads of the new sets, i really like it.

It might even give us some great ideas about new MOC's

Looking forward to the next episode.

Wait,am I missing something? Will there be more eps. Thought this was just a special. Well, great if it is. Me and my kids love it. Seen it 4 times today.

:laugh_hard:

Just watched it. I love LEGO humor...

The storyline was good, all the jokes fit right in with typical TLG/TT Games, and I loved how they coordinated all the OT sounds and songs with the events. The re-appearance of the Clones younglings was nice as well.

Oh, and,

Jar-Jar got shot and blown apart! Jar-Jar got shot! :moar: :moar: :moar: Now part of me wishes this video was canon after all.

I loved it! Of course there are a whole bunch of continuity problems, so it can't be considered canon.

One of my friends, Katie Leigh, told me she was going to work on a LEGO Star Wars special, and I was so excited.

She did the voice of Ian, and most (if not all) of the other children.

Hope they make more of these LEGO specials!
