Gabe Posted August 7, 2011 Posted August 7, 2011 I wasn't sure whether to post this in the action forum (since i'm using ninjago ninjas) or not, but as there is precious little action in my moc and the feel is more castle-y than dragons and giant monster trucks, i thought i'd park it here. Mods, I hope that it is appropriate, if not then i'm happy to relocate it. Anyway, onto the MOC! So this is the first big(gish) MOC i’ve made in a couple of months. I wanted to do something with the ninjago minifigs and i wanted to make a snow scene, that’s pretty much where it started. Iinitially i was thinking of the the snowy fight scene in Kill Bill, with the CM series 4 geisha as the lead character against a ninja attack, but it sort of morphed into something quite different. I initially build up the base so that i could get some stairs in, and then added the snow caves and the cascading tree. I was planning to build a fortified house, but i couldn't get a feel for the architecture, and so just kept piling dark bley peices up into what eventually became the lava tube. I sort of had Orodruin (Mt Doom) in mind as i was building, can you tell? And then the Japanese castle inspired thing behind it started to take shape last of all. The levels of the temple/castle come apart to show the interiors. I think the shrine level came out the best, largely because of the colourful strip i put around the top. The others look a bit bare, but then i hadn't left myself much room to work in. This is also the first time i've used a light brick in a MOC! I put it behind the rock fissure that leads into the lava cavern. (sorry about the grainy pic though) Anyway, thanks for stopping by and taking a squiz. More pics can be seen on my brickshelf or my flickr. Quote
Cecilie Posted August 7, 2011 Posted August 7, 2011 Very cool! That snowy landscape is very well done, and nice way to blend ice and fire by using a lava stream in a winter landscape . Love the temple as well, the feel of it is just right . Quote
LandShark Posted August 7, 2011 Posted August 7, 2011 That a really nice looking temple! The way you include the caves and gave it an interior really adds something to the MOC. And as 'Cecile' said, you did the snow really well, and the whole thing just looks great. Quote
Captain BeerBeard Posted August 7, 2011 Posted August 7, 2011 That has to be the best snow i've seen in a moc! Looking at your moc makes me wanna be there. Quote
SmoothSexualBrickMaster Posted August 7, 2011 Posted August 7, 2011 Love this! Very well done, so easy on the eyes. I really like the little cave underneath and the waterfall under the tree is a very nice touch. The temple itself is awesome and like the mixture of the pearl gold studs with the light and dark greys. So much fantastic detail with tons of playability to top it off, well done Gabe! Quote
blueandwhite Posted August 8, 2011 Posted August 8, 2011 I really like the fact you can lift the roofing off to reveal the interior details. The frozen water and icicles are also a nice touch. The snow-covered tree also adds to the scene. In some ways, this reminds me of a smaller-scale version of Norro's Entrance to the Caves. This build is very clean and pleasing to the eye. Quote
Gabe Posted August 8, 2011 Author Posted August 8, 2011 That has to be the best snow i've seen in a moc! Looking at your moc makes me wanna be there. Haha, thanks! I think it helps with landscaping snow that it's winter here. I wish i was in the snow too. Also looking at Legolas9823's "Piz Nair" really inspired me as well. Love this! Ah, i'm glad you noticed the frozen waterfall! I really wanted to find a way to work in that crazed ice piece in the Ninjago ice dragon set - my only reservation was that it's a different colour to the blue of the frozen stream above it. Thanks for yr other lovely comments too! I really like the fact you can lift the roofing off to reveal the interior details. The frozen water and icicles are also a nice touch. Gosh thanks, that a huge compliment - i love Norro's work, his landscaping is on another level altogether! Entrance to the caves was one of the first MOC's to officially blow my mind when i saw it. Thankyou also Cecilie, Landshark and Nightshroud99 for yr kind comments. I'm glad to hear that you think the temple looks alright, one thing i really feel like i struggle with is coherently realized architcture. Quote
LEGO Train 12 Volts Posted August 8, 2011 Posted August 8, 2011 Wow! This MOC is a masterpiece! The architecture looks perfect and so the garden with snow and azure-blue water ...there are so much details! I simply love the ice stalactites and the white owl! Quote
Lego Pinocchio Posted August 9, 2011 Posted August 9, 2011 I love this! It doesn't have much space in the main building but it fits everything you put in it well, good work Quote

I simply love the ice stalactites and the white owl! Thankyou very much for yr kind words, i'm glad you like it. The printing on the owl piece is a beauty, isn't it? So much better than the old plain owls. I love this! It doesn't have much space in the main building but it fits everything you put in it well, good work Thanks! Yeah, i was a bit annoyed with myself that i hadn't left more room for the structure. Especially with something like a Japanese castle, that tapers as it reaches the upper levels. Everything just ended up so cramped! I'm going to have to pay a bit more attention to space considerations in future i think. Quote
Peanuts Posted August 10, 2011 Posted August 10, 2011 (edited) This is great! I like the snowy landscape a lot, with the small river and the waterfall. Also the temple itself is very elaborated, especially the modular building, the ornaments and the interior. All in one, a perfect MOC. Edited August 10, 2011 by Peanuts Quote

My last few moc's have pretty much exclusively used "modular" or stackable levels for accessing interiors - i think i might try something different next time. Quote
Magnus the Great Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 Nice, there are too few mocs with winter landscapes. Not that I'm doing anything about it, but it's always a little more appreciated to see. Quote
Khorne Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 That's a great MOC you got there ! I really like the Asian architectural style you got going on, plus the fact that it's set in the snow makes this creation stand out. My favourite aspects are the detailed interiors (I'm a sucker for interiors ) and the icy river. There's not really much I can say to improve this MOC, as it's already a beauty to look at. Quote
lightningtiger Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 Excellent MOC 'gabe', an interesting mix of fire and ice.....it's so hot it's cool ! It totally has the feel of a mountainside temple, so far from the shops so don't forget the milk ! Keep on spinning 'gabe' ! Quote
