After establishing EB's favorite Police Station and favorite Fire Station we now come to something every city/town needs but due to mysterious circumstances LEGO cities/towns have lacked over the past: the hospital.

Still, there were a few. Which one is your favorite? Vote here and share your thoughts about the set(s) :-)

Here are the candidates

(Click thumbs for bigger pictures)

1. 363/555 Hospital

1975/76 brought us the first minifig-sized hospital. It's from the Enviro-Model line and

comes with the "motionless" minifigs and sports the classic station look although it actually

isn't a station in the classic sense. I think the red color is supposed to display red bricks as

we see in UK and US suburbs sometimes. Hence lots of sets back then were red - methinks...

2. 6380 Emergency Treatment Center

Long time no see, only in 1987 we got the next hospital set. It doesn't have the classic

station look as the police and fire stations of that time but we clearly see where the

design comes from. But it seems the time designing it was well spent.

3. 9364 Hospital

No more hospitals until 1993. But this time the DACTA line produced a hospital. I included

this in this poll because albeit its size it's minifig scale and could fit a town. And it's probably

the set with the best and most accessories among hospitals. Tons of minifigs, two cars, and

nicely done and very well detailed interior.

4. 7892 Hospital

2006 has arrived. Many a minifig has suffered and even died due to the ancient equipment

of LEGO towns' hospitals. Some towns even didn't have any treatment facilities at all and

lots of expensive emergency transports to neighboring towns were necessary. Poverty was

just one result of that. But the upper echelons finally recognized the need for a modern health

care facility, and finally, after years of pain, funds were raised for... an oversized baywatch HQ:

Well, that was it. Not a big choice, is it? Anyhow, lets vote and share our thoughts on these sets.

Vote on!

I voted on 6380. I think at some point I might have gotten the first hospital at a yard sale as part of a box of Lego, but 6380 is the only one that I can remember enjoying, fitting in with a town scene, etc.

I voted on the 6380. I think that it is the best Hospital that TLC done: very easy to well integtared in a town ( contrary to the dacta version), has a good design and its own one (not a fire station make up in hosptal).

But like the fire station, I have the last one (7892) to be sur to have one, noit the best but better that no one!

9364 is so hard to get, typically going for 150-200$. Clearly its the best of the bunch if you want a HOSPITAL, but it's not fair to compare it to the others.

When my kids built a play hospital, they built one like 9364 out of spare parts because it has actual rooms where patients can stay, have operations, get tested, etc etc. I.E. it plays like a hosiptal.

If you want a building, figs, and cars that play as a hospital, then 6380 is the best.

Lego has not done a good job with hospitals. I guess kids somehow prefer fire stations and police stations.... I wonder why :-)

I never had a hospital. :-(

Odd given my profession now

So do I. You never play "Doctors and Nurses" as a kid? I play now as an adult!

No, hang on, that's not playing, that's my job!

While 9364 offers the most details I, too, go with 6380. It's just the overall design that makes this the best hospital for me. Unfortunately it isn't so easy to find, either. Rarely pops one up at ebay in good condition.

I agree about the job not well done. Dunno why that is. 7892 is a design desaster, IMHO. Away with the baseplate and make a second "tower" (if it has to be one) and you got a way better set. So we have to buy two (or three) to make a better set and give the left-over baseplates to our pets to play with...

My kids, who are girls, don't "swoosh" things around when they play with Lego. They build rooms, beds, couches, kitchens, play areas, and other places for their little characters to live. They really have never had any use for any of the town/city sets with buildings, because they rooms in those buildings are not usable. They build flat one-level open roofed structures which you can poke your clumsy hands easily into without destroying the whole thing.

They end up looking very much like the dacta set, except that the colour don't match and wierd pieces are stuck all over the place. :-)

Maybe other kids play different with these lego buildings, but I've never seen it.

i too voted for 6380.

I remember seing this set at a toy store when i was 7 but i didnt get it :-(

i got a castle insted.. ;-) so a few days ago i found one on ebay and i just had to have it

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Lego-Town-Hospital-6...1QQcmdZViewItem

it hasnt arrived yet but i cant wait to add it to my town!

as for the latest hospital its just a shame! but it is designed for boys that go ShWOOS with their helicopters and cars...and not for as.

the dacta one has the best parts and its ment for playing with lego the way i used to when i was a kid..build create rooms and situations with characters and not just bang a couple of cars together...

(those computer games have destroyed lego as we knew them if you ask me..but thats another story)

and may i sugest a "favorite airport" poll?

and may i sugest a "favorite airport" poll?

how about a favorite train station poll? seeing how poorly the 2006 sets performed in the polls, at least the latest grand central station set stands a chance of winning.

Patience, people, patience. All polls at once aren't really fun - and you just spoiled the surprise (the little that's possible in a City theme) for future polls :'-(

Erm... no. No chance. None in hell.

Sorry for offtopic. What is dacta actually. And why do all their sets contain massive amounts of minifigs?

Dacta is Lego's educational division. The target audience typically is schools, which can afford to buy overpriced sets. Well, at least more than real people can. They are particularly active with Mindstorms and Technic Control technology, but also had Town sets, Egypt...

Can't buy direct from Lego except in US sometimes, usually have to buy from an educational supply store.

Since we are pointing out sets forgotten, I have to say that this actually was a very good hospital set, better in my opinion than most of the ones in the poll

http://guide.lugnet.com/set/9180. My kids played with it for 2 years. The picture does not do it justice.

And the more modern one is not bad looking either. http://guide.lugnet.com/set/9232

Well it was a tough choice since I think they all look like crap :-X

I still went with the 6380 because it has that "classic" look of my childhood !! Ahh sweet memories ;-)

Vote On !!

*yoda*

That is right, you forgot one hospital, but you could argue that it is more like a clinic and not a real hospital. Anyway i would from i LEGO point of view go for the 6380 hospital, wich is the hospital i bough of Ebay 21 year ago. From a proffesional point of view, being a doctor in anastesiology, I would go for the more modern hospital with a helicopter and all.

The little clinic is nice, but not a real hospital. The 6364 paramedic unit is allso expensive on Bricklink.

for this, city mayor, you should go to jail! yes, to jail, and throw away the key! oh yes, and no more staff position for you either!!! cos, my dear jailed and demoted city mayor, you FORGOT the very very very best city hospital EVER!!!!

I didn't forget it, I left it out on purpose for the reasons morten mentioned: it's not a hospital. And stop bickering, you just lost an entire planet :-P

Yeah, I came across those, too, and I thought about including them. But then it's DUPLO and all the other polls didn't include anything but System so I didn't include them. Even 9364 was an exception but that had minifigs at least.

Great sets.

Do you mean any other than 6364?

Well, by a lot-closer-than-I-thought margin of 9 votes over 8 we have a winner. I hereby declare

EB's favorite hospital:

6380 Emergency Treatment Center

This is the third poll, and the third time a classic town set wins. Either the classic design was the best, or the new designs aren't all that good an alternative ;-)

Voting's still possible but won't be taken into account anymore.

well it's a great set, but maybe the classics win because only , or a majority of, old people vote :-$

They (we) are the wiser people, they (we) have more life experience, they (we) know, so they (we) can't be wrong.

Oops! I added a vote before I realized a winner had been declared. Was there a deadline? Am I supposed to read the thread first. Oh grrrrrr.

Anyway, it was a total tossup between dacta and the emergency treatment center, I love both sets, but the dacta hospital is so detailed and has so many windows and other great pieces. Awesome set for function and for parts monkeys.

One thing is fur sure, the current hospital sucks!

No, there wasn't a deadline. I just thought that after two weeks time and the poll having stalled for some time lately it was time to declare a winner. I'll add a deadline in future polls but will continue to leave the polls open so people who haven't voted can still show appreciation for their favorite set.

Am I supposed to read the thread first.

Well... du-uh! This isn't just pictures-only for the reading impaired!

:-P ;-)
