Peppermint_M Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 The worst has happened, all the glaciers are melted, all the icecaps are gone. Sea levels have risen to record levels and just aren’t going down! Many places are now submerged in these widened oceans. How would your Police Station look deep in the depths? Would Cafe Corner be a popular stop for fishes? Can divers explore a submerged Castle? Build a set as it would appear at the bottom of the ocean. The aim is to produce an Underwater version of an existing set, with details which might occupy the sea floor. Up for grabs are these fantastic prizes: 1st prize: Your set of choice from S@H for max of 50 Euro 2nd prize: Your set of choice from S@H for max of 25 Euro All courtesy of Eurobricks Forum. The Rules of Entry No minimum or maximum part or minifig limit Entry should include the name of your creation, a 1 paragraph description of your set’s Underwater-specific features, and a link to the Brickset reference page of the original You do not need to use any official Aquazone parts or figs to enter. See the full list of rules below. The Contest runs from now to Midnight of Friday October 7th. You may continually modify and update your entries and entry posts right up until the deadline One entry per member and no recycling of old creations or MOCs already posted. Custom decals and non-LEGO string and cloth/canvas/paper are allowed. Third party commercial parts (e.g. Brickarms, Brickforge) and customised minifig parts are not allowed. No clone brands or digital entries No minifig limit Post 3 pictures in the relevant contest entry threads (maximum size 800x600). See the Tutorials Index for help with resizing images and deeplinking. Judging will take place by a public vote. New members joining after Wednesday 7th September are eligible to enter, but only members who joined before Wednesday 7th September will be eligible to vote. So get building! Quote
LandShark Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 Very good idea for a contest. I probably won't be able to make an entry, I'm a bit busy at the moment. But I am looking forward to seeing what people come up with, and I hope to see lots of Castle-based entries. Quote
Ninja Nin Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 Great contest, and I see there will be many great Underwater Modular House entries ...... Looking forward to it, I see what I can come up with !! Quote
Oky Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 Wow, what a brilliant idea for a contest! Very original. I do have some questions though: How far are we allowed to deviate from the design of the set we have chosen? Can it be completely redesigned as long as it still resembles the set? Can we add digital backgrounds and effects (such as bubbles) to our pictures? What do you mean by "one entry per category"? Are there different categories? Quote

It still has to be recognisable as the set, or similar enough for us to be able to figure out what it was No graphics and backdrops for the entry, you can spiff one up for a later once the contest ends, but as with all entries we want members to judge on MOC not snazzy graphic. That was a relic I forgot to remove when I was mulling over seperating vehicles and structures. I shall get rid of it now. Quote
Matn Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 Great concept for a contest! I have a perfect set in mind. If I have it right, this contest focuses more on modification rather than building an entirely new creation? Quote

Take a set and imagine it at the bottom of the ocean, build in those alterations and ta daa! Quote
lisqr Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 Oh, Oh, I have an entry already. "I want a nice vacation on the beach of Himalayas, but instead I'm here on MARS" Translation: "Earth had a flood? WFC..." 3 pics Quote

Ninja Nin Posted September 8, 2011 Posted September 8, 2011 I have one idea in mind - a fire station !! In case there is a fire under the sea ..... One question about modification of the set, how far can we expand the set ? I see there is no limitation of parts and minifigs. Can the entry be recognizable but in a larger scale, or just keep it similar as the set (or D2C) ? Quote

Peppermint_M Posted September 8, 2011 Author Posted September 8, 2011 My entry Can you please post it as a MOC thread here in the forum? With all the description and original set it was taken from linked in. Thanks Quote
Oky Posted September 8, 2011 Posted September 8, 2011 So we should make a thread for our own entry? I thought there was going to be an entry thread. That's what the first post says anyway. Quote
Jay Sathe Posted September 8, 2011 Posted September 8, 2011 Are digital entries allowed? The bulk of my collection is packed away at the moment. Quote
Peppermint_M Posted September 9, 2011 Author Posted September 9, 2011 So we should make a thread for our own entry? I thought there was going to be an entry thread. That's what the first post says anyway. Oh, dear me, I should really only post business posts early in the evening, not just before I go to bed... . I shall post an entry thread momentarily. Are digital entries allowed? The bulk of my collection is packed away at the moment. 4. No clone brands or digital entries Sorry, but even a tiny set can be turned into a pretty clever underwater version. Quote
Geertos13 Posted September 10, 2011 Posted September 10, 2011 What a great idea for a contest! And awesome prizes too! I'm probably going to enter this, if I have enough bricks left! (using a lot for my Brickfilms at the moment) As for as the customising of a set goes, I understand that we need to recognise the original creation, but how far are we allowed to modify our creations? Should we just add specific underwater detail, or can we add or take away, some of the structure of the set? Quote

So long as we can still tell what it was before the sea consumed it, a set can have as much removed as you dare. I do have to draw a line somewhere, if say I posted a baseplate with some bley bricks on and claimed it used to be Cafe Corner, it would be a bit cheeky. Quote

Ninja Nin Posted September 10, 2011 Posted September 10, 2011 So long as we can still tell what it was before the sea consumed it, a set can have as much removed as you dare. Does that mean no changes in the original theme colour, no futuristic aqua style of the set? We keep most of the elements of the set, basically a sunken version of it ? I hope I can get it right by now ! Cheers ! Quote
Peppermint_M Posted September 10, 2011 Author Posted September 10, 2011 A sunken version indeed. Quote
Aanchir Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 I probably already know the answer to this question, but are LDD entries allowed? Or do the entries have to be in physical bricks? I guess if I have to work in physical bricks, I have enough Ninjago and Atlantis sets with me at college to, for instance, make an underwater version of the Fire Temple or Spinjitzu Dojo. But I'd have a lot more creative options if I could work digitally. Quote
Rumble Strike Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 (edited) Hi Aanchir, It says no digital entries in the rules: 4. No clone brands or digital entries Edited September 11, 2011 by Rumble Strike Quote
