Hi

it is so obviously that you are comming from Germany and where have seen many old G-models. The shape of the lighthouse is perfect and highly important for easy recognition. Sadly those technic angles are not available in orange too. I am loking forward to the rest when it is done.

yes, the shape of the lighthouse is truly a key to the design of the G. And yes its not funny that there so less technic parts are available in orange. unfortunately i could not build the complete body in orange. it seems that iam fall in love with orange.

so my new rims are arrived and i could make a little testride

the climbing performance is nearly the same like my willys. unfortunately the long wheelbase is limiting a bit.

the currently dimensions are:

wheelbase 43 studs

width 25 studs

steering pivot point distance 15 studs

ground clearance between the front axle 6.5 studs

ground clearance between front and rear axle 7 studs

surprisingly i had today no gear slip. Sure it is nothing for a truck trial contest but it works good enough for me. for me it has a big advantage. where the 8110 (23 stus wide) has 9 studs between the steering pivot points, i have with my chassis (25 studs wide) 15 studs between the pivot points. the mudguards could be much smaller.

edit:

a short vid with the limits of a long wheelbase

i have built a new chassis. same wheelbase and width, but two studs more ground clearance between the axles.

is it only my opinion or are these rims the perfect mercedes rims?

I guess you still need to finish the body work looks good,i am in two minds about that set i would like to build the b model and then to a restyle job on it,but then i could use the 40-50 pounds for other lego parts i need.
