The plan is a trial Vehicle with similar offroad capabilitys like my Willys moc for the Tires iam using the new 8110 tires. I want see how good they performs in a offroad terrain. Darth Dino Posted September 25, 2011 Posted September 25, 2011 Hi it is so obviously that you are comming from Germany and where have seen many old G-models. The shape of the lighthouse is perfect and highly important for easy recognition. Sadly those technic angles are not available in orange too. I am loking forward to the rest when it is done. efferman Posted September 25, 2011 Author Posted September 25, 2011 yes, the shape of the lighthouse is truly a key to the design of the G. And yes its not funny that there so less technic parts are available in orange. unfortunately i could not build the complete body in orange. it seems that iam fall in love with orange. 100_8823 von efferman auf Flickr Quote
Zerobricks Posted September 25, 2011 Posted September 25, 2011 Looks very good so far! Cant wait to see what it will look like finsihed! Quote
efferman Posted October 1, 2011 Author Posted October 1, 2011 so my new rims are arrived and i could make a little testride the climbing performance is nearly the same like my willys. unfortunately the long wheelbase is limiting a bit. the currently dimensions are: wheelbase 43 studs width 25 studs steering pivot point distance 15 studs ground clearance between the front axle 6.5 studs ground clearance between front and rear axle 7 studs Quote
JunkstyleGio Posted October 1, 2011 Posted October 1, 2011 Nice! Seems to work okay! Can't wait to see more of this project! Quote
timslegos Posted October 1, 2011 Posted October 1, 2011 fantastic chassis! Would you please post photos on brickshelf? It looks like the chassis has very good off road capabilities! tim Quote
efferman Posted October 1, 2011 Author Posted October 1, 2011 thanks sure can i post some pics i think because its long wheelbase it is only good on medium terrain. in fact it is no rock crawler Quote
timslegos Posted October 1, 2011 Posted October 1, 2011 Wow nice progress. Do the final gears skip when driving over rough terrain? To me they sem to unbraced for not skipping tim Quote
efferman Posted October 1, 2011 Author Posted October 1, 2011 (edited) surprisingly i had today no gear slip. Sure it is nothing for a truck trial contest but it works good enough for me. for me it has a big advantage. where the 8110 (23 stus wide) has 9 studs between the steering pivot points, i have with my chassis (25 studs wide) 15 studs between the pivot points. the mudguards could be much smaller. edit: a short vid with the limits of a long wheelbase Edited October 1, 2011 by efferman Quote
efferman Posted October 2, 2011 Author Posted October 2, 2011 (edited) i have built a new chassis. same wheelbase and width, but two studs more ground clearance between the axles. two pics is it only my opinion or are these rims the perfect mercedes rims? Edited October 2, 2011 by efferman Quote
DLuders Posted December 26, 2011 Posted December 26, 2011 Interesting modification! Does that 9395 Pick-Up Tow Truck have enough strength to lift up a car's front wheels? How heavy a load do you think it can handle? Quote
efferman Posted December 26, 2011 Author Posted December 26, 2011 in the current setup it is strong enough for my offroad hotrod, which is not really heavy much more load is at this time not possible Quote
efferman Posted December 30, 2011 Author Posted December 30, 2011 to get more lifting power, i have changed the wormgear mechanism with a LA. Quote
Alasdair Ryan Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 I guess you still need to finish the body work looks good,i am in two minds about that set i would like to build the b model and then to a restyle job on it,but then i could use the 40-50 pounds for other lego parts i need. Quote
efferman Posted December 30, 2011 Author Posted December 30, 2011 Yes, only the winch and the rear bodywork are to do at this time. Quote
timslegos Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 Wow very nice r/c mod. How does the steering work? is it return to center? tim Quote
efferman Posted December 30, 2011 Author Posted December 30, 2011 yes it has return to center. i have made some pics from a testing dummy which should show you how it works Quote
Alasdair Ryan Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 I wonder if you could use that idea for a pneumatic valve with return to center. Quote
efferman Posted December 30, 2011 Author Posted December 30, 2011 I wonder if you could use that idea for a pneumatic valve with return to center. It is worth to make a try Quote
parda Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 Nice return to center mechanism I'm so curious with the idea of the pneumatic valve! Quote
Alasdair Ryan Posted December 31, 2011 Posted December 31, 2011 Would you be able to make a quick cad of just the steering mechanism,i tried building it and it would not work (the return to center part). Quote
efferman Posted December 31, 2011 Author Posted December 31, 2011 mlcad, ldraw and similar things are not my world, but i can make you a picture instruction. what is your problem with the mechanism? Quote
