De Sandman Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 I'm building a new ship...The Red Whale... Here's a teaser; Quote
Hiawatha Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 It's looking good so far ! Who will be manning The Red Whale? Quote
Ratshot Posted September 28, 2011 Posted September 28, 2011 This is definatley looking promising, I'll be looking for more updates. Cheers Quote
Sebeus I Posted September 28, 2011 Posted September 28, 2011 I like those bigger cannon port hatches, like to see more :) Quote
Big Cam Posted September 29, 2011 Posted September 29, 2011 It's looking pretty massive, you have to give us one more teaser, we won't wait patiently forever. Quote
De Sandman Posted October 2, 2011 Author Posted October 2, 2011 I've been buisy this weekend, this is the result so far; Quote
De Sandman Posted October 22, 2011 Author Posted October 22, 2011 A little update: sorry for the bad quality, it was a bit dark.... Quote
Belet Posted October 22, 2011 Posted October 22, 2011 She has a great fantasy galleon feel! The choice of colors is quite clever in my opinion and you did a great job on the stern! Love the medieval shields! Keep up the good work :) Quote

Admiral Croissant Posted October 22, 2011 Posted October 22, 2011 It has a very original design. I like the custom gunport hatches, the stairs and the colourscheme. Overall it has a very galleon-like feeling, so perhaps a longer headrails part (like this) would look better. But that's just a suggestion. It's a fantasy ship of course. Good luck! Quote
De Sandman Posted October 22, 2011 Author Posted October 22, 2011 , so perhaps a longer headrails part (like this) would look better. But that's just a suggestion. I tried that, i didn't like it, it just doesn't fit in the whole, imo the ship is to long then. Quote
De Sandman Posted October 23, 2011 Author Posted October 23, 2011 Here are some new (better) pictures (with a minor update) Quote
Hiawatha Posted October 23, 2011 Posted October 23, 2011 I really like it! You did a really good job on the decorations (figureheads and shields). Quote
De Sandman Posted October 26, 2011 Author Posted October 26, 2011 I've started with the rigging; Quote
Sebeus I Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 Very nice, the rigging is coming along nicely too, what type of ship would you say this is ? Quote
Captain Green Hair Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 Your ship is turning out quite original! May I ask why you are putting rigging in front of the cannon ports and windows? It seems they can not be used any more now? Quote
De Sandman Posted October 28, 2011 Author Posted October 28, 2011 Thx, if you look to real ships you will notice the rigging starts above the first gundeck, since i've got bigger gunports, limited bricks, space etc...the rigging is slightly before the gunports, but they open, at the back it's before the windows, but that doesn't mind.... They are all some beauty flaws, but it looks good IMO and that's what i'm aming at, also i want to make it as realistic as posible.. and in that case some things aren't practical but more beautiful. But thanks for all the comment, it's good to hear i'm on the right track Btw, i'm aming for a galleon typish thingy and the crew will be a surprise (will it be pirates or imperials Quote
De Sandman Posted October 29, 2011 Author Posted October 29, 2011 (edited) The rigging is massive work Respect for the ones who has already made custom rigging. A small update (and a better picture ) Edited October 31, 2011 by De Sandman Quote
De Sandman Posted November 4, 2011 Author Posted November 4, 2011 Question....how wide should the booms be in relation to the with of the ship? thx for reactions Quote
De Sandman Posted November 5, 2011 Author Posted November 5, 2011 Added the lamps, made new anchors and the rigging on the first masts are done One of 2 anchors; And the lamps; Hope you like it Quote
Admiral Croissant Posted November 5, 2011 Posted November 5, 2011 You're doing an excellent job on the rigging I'm not sure about the anchor. It's not very smooth. I do like the fact that you're trying to develop your own technique. The lamps are also nice. I think they fit very well on this ship. My only tip is to add a lateen sail to the mizzen mast (like here). It would make the ship more realistic since every galleon had this sail, and it would make the ship more manoeuvrable. Quote
De Sandman Posted November 5, 2011 Author Posted November 5, 2011 My only tip is to add a lateen sail to the mizzen mast Thanx for the reply...i was very ancsious (how do you write that ) to see the replies...(i'm very proud for myself how this ship is going ) About the lateen...yes it is in the plans to ad one, i just wan't to make the rigging first or it will be in the way when i'm buisy with the strings... De Sandman Posted November 6, 2011 Author Posted November 6, 2011 Yes...finished the rigging of the masts, and added a boom for the lateen Quote
