le60head Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 (edited) Hey guys! After month and months of delaying, here's finally the refinement of my LEGO Yellow School bus. Please scroll down this topic to see a video of the model. The reason i post this model in the TECHNIC section, is because it is fully PF Remote Controllable What's left to do on the model is just a change of seats color, and some stickers ;) I thought i'd share just a quick pic right now. Hope I got you interested. Expect MORE photos very very soon! Edited October 30, 2013 by le60head Quote
le60head Posted November 22, 2011 Author Posted November 22, 2011 (edited) Hello Jorgeopesi! Thank you for showing interest. I'll try and make a video of the finished model in the next couple of days First i want to apply the stickers onto the bus. For the time being, you can see an earlier version of the model "in action" in the following video. Its from an exhibition of our LUG - Lebgo. Please skip to 4:00 to see the bus moving. However, please note that on that video u will see an older version of the bus. It has been rebuilt several times since the making of this video. One of the major changes is, that it now has return-to-center steering! Edited November 22, 2011 by le60head Quote
DLuders Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 Nice minifig-scale bus! There are several Bluebird school buses going up and down my street every day: Did you build your model on the bb396c01 "Electric, Motor RC with Steering Mechanism and Receiving Unit, Dark Bluish Gray Base" that came with the 8183 Track Turbo RC and 8184 Twin X-Treme RC sets? Quote
le60head Posted November 22, 2011 Author Posted November 22, 2011 (edited) Thanks DLuders! Here is a photo of the exact model i wanted to recreate: It is the first generation (pre 1888) of the BLUE BIRD All American bus. The photo you posted is of the TC/2000 (type D), which was from the second generation AFAK. The most notable difference is the headlights. About your question: No, i did not use the module from Track Turbo RC. The bus is just 7 studs wide, so it would be too big. I used two of the 71427 motors: And some adapter cables to hook it to the PF IR receiver. The power comes from a 88000 PF small battery box ( the one which uses 6x AAA batteries). I'm very happy i managed to fit it inside. It barely fit! The rest is some gears, rubber bands and of course ... magic :D I'll post additional photos this evening after work. I'll think about what figs to fit inside the interior until then P.S. I envy you for seeing them every day. I've never seen one for real, so it was hard to build it on just old photos. JunkstyleGio Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 @ le60head: Great model! Thanks for posting this bus on our little piece of Eurobricks. Certainly we all hope to see some more pictures of the internals... Quote
le60head Posted November 22, 2011 Author Posted November 22, 2011 Thank you very much! I'd gladly share some photos of the "guts". Quote
nielsvdv Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 it isn't driven on the wheels or steered? am i right? nice moc btw Quote
le60head Posted November 22, 2011 Author Posted November 22, 2011 Thank you very much! @ nielsvdv: It is driven and steered: RWD & return to center steering. Video proof - to be expected! Quote
PerryMakes Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 I'd like to add a little bit of 'thank you' as well!! This looks superb! ~ Perry p.s. - I've noticed yellow to be one of the colors most affected by the color variations inherent to the pigment injection debacle that's been going on for half a decade now. Would you agree? Quote
le60head Posted November 22, 2011 Author Posted November 22, 2011 Yes I agree. Unfortunately. The yellow parts that are currently produced are slightly transparent to light too. I'll make a comparison photo between old yellow parts and the ones currently in production. Quote
timslegos Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 Wow that's incredible! a completely remote control minifig bus is definitely a hard task to complete. tim Quote
dhc6twinotter Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 (edited) Very cool. I like the fact that it is 7 wide. I get to drive these buses every now and then at work when we are doing mass movements. The ones we drive look like the one dluders posted, except for ours are white with seperate low/high beam headlights and no caution/stop flashers. Our buses also have AC, barn door luggage area in the rear, and some have airbag suspension with knealing front ends. Ours are Cat and Cummins powered. They are fun to drive, on the rare times that I get too. Anyways, nice work there! Edited November 22, 2011 by dhc6twinotter Quote
le60head Posted November 23, 2011 Author Posted November 23, 2011 (edited) Thank you for your feedback! Just applied the stickers, unfortunately i messedup the shade of yellow, and the ink smudged. Guess i'll have to redo them. Probably with plastic stickers. Anyway, here are the promised photos: A three quarter view of the front-right. Side view of the bus. There are six rows of seats inside. The remaining space in the back ( behind the three back windows ) is ocupied by the PF IR Receiver. Back view. Very proud of the back door i managed to make. Will you be able to guess what the door's handle is made of ? I'm not sure about the rear bumper, i might change that with something simpler, yet better looking. Roof section removed for acces to interior. Say "HI" to our passengers! Removed side of bus for better view. Anyone recognizing some tv-shot hosts in there? Yes, i managed to put a steering wheel. There's a gear lever as well. The bus driver looks very happy about that, doesn't he? Unobstructed view of interior. You can see the steps behind the door as well. Same picture with roof reasembled. The photos were taken at room light, so the quality ain't the best. If you would like to see more photos, please ask :) I made a hi-res video of the model in action. I tried to explain how it works, and how i managed to fit everything inside. Well guys, hope you like it! P.S. Thank you for your patience with the photos! Regards, legohead Very cool. I like the fact that it is 7 wide. Thank you! I started off with the idea of building a 7-wide school bus. In the end, i think the bus is a bot unproportional - it should be a little wider to match its height. I decided to stick with 7-wide, since my main goal throughout this whole build was to make it as small as possible. Also, with its current dimensions the bus can easily drive trough a LEGO city layout. It can make a 90 degree turn on the road baseplates: I tried driving it on the modular buildings layout during our last year's LEGO exhibition, and it was great fun! You can see that on the video posted in the beginning of this topic. Back then it didn't have return to center steering, so i crashed into a lot of things Edited October 30, 2013 by le60head Quote
DLuders Posted November 23, 2011 Posted November 23, 2011 @ Le60head: Could you take a picture of the underside, with the bottom plate removed? It would be interesting to see how the drivetrain works. Quote
le60head Posted November 23, 2011 Author Posted November 23, 2011 (edited) Hey! The video is available! I think it will answer all questions about how the model works. Thanks for your interest! Edited November 23, 2011 by le60head Quote
DLuders Posted November 23, 2011 Posted November 23, 2011 @ timr: Le60head put his on Page 1 of this topic, as part of his original post: Quote
le60head Posted November 23, 2011 Author Posted November 23, 2011 Well, that's the bus (for now) Any Comments, Suggestions and Questions about it are welcome! Quote
timslegos Posted November 23, 2011 Posted November 23, 2011 That was the link i was asking for, the video. Awesome bus! Are you one of the few female builders? Tim Quote
