cimddwc Posted December 31, 2011 Posted December 31, 2011 Layouts Finally I was able to completely complete my little row of houses around the Pet Shop set that has started with PC Shop, P.I., Artist, Bar, 8-bed Hotel and continued with Lawyers and Snack Bar – if there were no life outside of Lego, it would have been a liiiiiiittle bit sooner... » Full page on MOCpages with all images » Set on Flickr First a selection of the full block and street scenes photos: Notice that I modified the new recycling container truck (4206) a little – it's now got a crane which makes more sense than having a forklift following it around everywhere... Subway entrance: A closer look at the corner house: Now let's get inside (see MOCpages or flickr for all rooms) – travel agency at the corner: A shop for souvenirs (picture postcards outside) and odds and ends – puppets of astronauts and mummies seem to be selling well... And here's the interior of the betting office – the green copy of the Pet Shop – that was still empty last time: Whoops, the computer crashed and all the monitors are showing a bluescreen instead of live results and odds from sports events around the world – and the customers are quite irate. (The broken bottle is from BrickForge.) I don't think kicking a crashed computer will help anything, though... (Disclaimer: I'm not saying that's a typical behavior for bettors. But you can run into violent a**holes anywhere.) Alright, I think that's enough photos for the forum... » Full page on MOCpages with all images » Set on Flickr Comments and criticism welcome as always – and a happy new year to all of you! Quote
LEGO City Posted December 31, 2011 Posted December 31, 2011 Wow! My jaw just dropped! This is definitely the best modular street I have ever seen. I love the custom trolley. Also a great job on the brick-built roads to make it be a steep road. 100/100! Quote
LEGO Guy Bri Posted December 31, 2011 Posted December 31, 2011 Excellent job 'cimddwc'! This came out great, the building's are wonderfully detailed! Do you have plans to add to this? Fantastic job on your block Quote
Brickity Posted December 31, 2011 Posted December 31, 2011 This is extremely purrrdy! I love the color selection and every single detail of it. Quote
ibecks Posted December 31, 2011 Posted December 31, 2011 Completely awesome. I wish I had the space to do something like this. I particularly like the airport brick (I had an 80's airport with that) and the shark on top of the building. Quote
lightningtiger Posted December 31, 2011 Posted December 31, 2011 Excellent work ' cimddwc ', the underground railway entrance is the icing on the cake......how about posting the details on that mod to the recycling truck eh ? AWESOME detailing.....I wished sometimes people wouldn't keep raising the bar - now I have to work harder on my Danish village....oh, well ! Brick On ' cimddwc ' ! Quote
Vindicare Posted December 31, 2011 Posted December 31, 2011 That's really cool, nice to see the finished product. Any shots of the back, I'm curious to see how you made the base. Or, is that a trade secret? Quote
Shawn Posted January 1, 2012 Posted January 1, 2012 THat is the best modular street that I have seen as well. Absolutely incredible. WOW! Quote
sonicstarlight Posted January 1, 2012 Posted January 1, 2012 I have been waiting impatiently for the finished product, and it was definitely worth the wait! Simply stunning - each building is wonderfully detailed and fits in so well with the official sets. I don't think I have ever seen such a cohesive set of modular buildings. Blogged on Brick Town Talk Quote
Hiawatha Posted January 1, 2012 Posted January 1, 2012 Great use of the Lego game pieces as puppets, very clever. Great build as well. Quote
L@go Posted January 1, 2012 Posted January 1, 2012 As sonicstarlight said, it's been worth the wait. I love the new buildings... in fact, I love just about everything about this fantastic giant MOC. I must admit I'm not sold on the shark on the roof - although the idea is good, I think it looks a bit out of place there and would be better suited above an entrance or something - but that's my personal opinion and apart from that I don't think there's a single thing I'd do different here. The airport sign is a favourite, and the subway entrance is a very neat touch. On the whole, a cracking job on a stunning MOC - the whole idea of building a hill makes this stand out as something different. I'd love to see this 'in the brick' some time. If you'd consider going to Skærbæk in September, bringing this with you, I think I'd actually decide to go :) Quote
Solitary Dark Posted January 1, 2012 Posted January 1, 2012 Wow that is amazing - I love the trolley car - I was just thinking about building something similar, but had not even considered the sloping road. So many brilliant details. Quote
Brickviller Posted January 1, 2012 Posted January 1, 2012 So awe-insipring, the buildings, interior, details it's just too much for my brain to handle Everything looks great, and the fact the road goes down a little is very original. I can't stop looking at the pic and find new great things you've added to the scene Quote
Redhead1982 Posted January 1, 2012 Posted January 1, 2012 This is an amazing display of modular houses. I'm fascinated by including the interior for the houses as well. I find it very inspiring. What stands out for me, is the modification of the new recycling container truck (I prefer yours than official), the corner house roof with a shark(!) on top, the stickers that add more life to the layout and a lively scenery on the street. Really well done. Quote
cimddwc Posted January 1, 2012 Author Posted January 1, 2012 Thank you very much, everyone! Excellent job 'cimddwc'! This came out great, the building's are wonderfully detailed! Do you have plans to add to this? Well, it will be part of a bigger town I will build in the next few(?) years – I'll put the plans up for discussion soon (over in the Train Tech forum) –, but there probably won't be houses directly next to these. The road will continue, of course, along a mountain that will start on the left and around the corner and then across tracks that run behind these houses. At any rate, that's what the current plans say. But since I started this block, it moved around the layout a few times, especially having the brook flowing this way or the other... That's really cool, nice to see the finished product. Any shots of the back, I'm curious to see how you made the base. Or, is that a trade secret? You see some of the hidden ugly stuff in older photos e.g. here or here and at the end of the current photo set, but since this block is finished for now, I built a nice presentable wall at the back. Seem to have forgotten to pick photos of it – I've added these now: Quote
Dakar A Posted January 1, 2012 Posted January 1, 2012 Amazing! The street has to be, 100%, my favourite part. Which leads to the question: how? Is there any particular combination of SNOT bricks and hinges, or is it something else entirely? Congratulations on such a beautiful modular street! Brick on, Dakar Quote
eliminator Posted January 1, 2012 Posted January 1, 2012 really amazing work. The hill-ness of your display really makes it pop and give it another dimension Quote
Jonas Posted January 1, 2012 Posted January 1, 2012 (edited) This is definitely one of the best and most lively Lego streets based on the modular concept. Very good job, 'cimddwc'! I like the idea of a street on the slope. It makes the diorama very dynamic. I also like the street-car; it looks simple but it just fits into the scale. Let us hope, TLG will continue in producing more elements in those realistic 'sand' colours. One minor commnent: The underground stream makes the foreground special, but it would be even more interesting to render the underground metro station. Edited January 1, 2012 by Jonas Quote
Lego Man Can Posted January 1, 2012 Posted January 1, 2012 That is an excellent well detailed collection of buildings you have there! Could we have some closeups of the modified recycle truck, I am intrigued by it's design! Quote
The Blue Brick Posted January 1, 2012 Posted January 1, 2012 I love how your buildings are on a slope. I tried to do this once for part of my town but didn't go to well. I also love your buildings and interior details. Excellent Moc! Quote
cimddwc Posted January 1, 2012 Author Posted January 1, 2012 Thanks again! Amazing! The street has to be, 100%, my favourite part. Which leads to the question: how? Is there any particular combination of SNOT bricks and hinges, or is it something else entirely? You can see some hints in the work-in-progress pictures at the end of the photo set: Straight road connected to the ground below with 2x2-2x2 brackets , the part between the tracks seperately. and Incline with brackets connected alternatingly to the sides, old hinges (like the black one on the right) on the curved top and bottom parts. The incline itself just rests loosely on a brick framework below. One minor commnent: The underground stream makes the foreground special, but it would be even more interesting to render the underground metro station. Yeah, but that has to wait until this block sits in its final place on its final table in my new apartment later this year. Could we have some closeups of the modified recycle truck, I am intrigued by it's design! I'll make some in the next few days. I already have an idea for another mod, so I might get another set and make that, too... Quote
Captain Blackbeard Posted January 1, 2012 Posted January 1, 2012 Very impressive! You've captured a busy street scene perfectly! Quote
Vindicare Posted January 1, 2012 Posted January 1, 2012 Wow, I never knew there was such a detailed back area too. And the way you did the street...wow. You Sir, are a great builder and I can't wait to see the updates and watch this grow. Quote
danimarroquin Posted January 2, 2012 Posted January 2, 2012 wow this is amazing , excelent job !!!! Quote
