Tearloch Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 (edited) I found a pretty neat picture a week or so ago that prompted me to think about making a new MOC. It is a EMD GP-7 and a bay window caboose from the Rock Island railroad. Their normal paint scheme was dark red and yellow, but in the mid 70's (before shutting down in 1980) they started using this neat blue and white paint scheme. I thought it would be a nice addition to me train collect since it was one of the major players where I grew up. The MOC of the engine went pretty quick using my design for a GP-38, but I quickly realized the color that I really need is the "Medium Azure", which does not really exist in most of the parts I would need. I did the MOC in Medium Blue, but I was wondering how the Maersk Blue color (I don't have any of that) differs from the Medium Blue. Can anyone that has both the Maersk Blue and Medium Blue color bricks take of picture of the 2 side by side or connected and post in a response? That would help me figure out is the Maersk Blue will work better than the Medium Blue. Edited January 3, 2012 by Tearloch Quote
JopieK Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 Well, ask Google about the colors: LEGO Colors Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 I suggest you take a look at a LEGO color palette. There are a number of these on the web. JopieK provides one in his link above. Quote
Tearloch Posted January 3, 2012 Author Posted January 3, 2012 Well, ask Google about the colors: LEGO Colors Thanks. The color palettes I had did not have the Maersk blue on it. It looks like the Maersk blue is slightly better, but I still would LOVE somebody to put the actual bricks of these 2 colors side by side and post a photo...that would help me out the most. Quote
JopieK Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 well, that will only work in very good light conditions... I recently did a review of the Maersk lorry and that one is supposed to have a different Maersk blue than the current sets... But I couldn't really see that. One can see the difference between sky and maerks blue, but it is a slight difference. Quote
clcwong Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 is just a slightly different. So if money is a concern, so it with medium blue first =] Or the easy way will be using the Maersk train set Quote
Duq Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 In this picture Maersk blue seems almost identical to light blue although there's no medium blue to compare... Quote
Tearloch Posted January 4, 2012 Author Posted January 4, 2012 Another comparison picture. PERFECT! Thank you so much. That is exactly what I wanted to see. I have been beating my head against the wall looking at the Maersk blue vs. Medium Blue vs. Sky Blue vs. the new Medium Azure that TLG is making for their new Friends line. What a pain in the butt. They seem to be making some new colors, but it is getting confusing out here. I think Sky Blue matches the color I want the best, but I also like the Medium Azure (not in your picture...new color I think)...neither of which is made in enough variety of parts (yet) to build my MOC. I might have to get created, or wait it out and hope the Friends line is popular enough to keep making the new part colors. well, that will only work in very good light conditions... I recently did a review of the Maersk lorry and that one is supposed to have a different Maersk blue than the current sets... But I couldn't really see that. One can see the difference between sky and maerks blue, but it is a slight difference. Thanks for the help. I have read other places that there was a difference in the Maersk blue colors over the years...does anyone else have any data on that? I would hate to order some parts from BL only to have the parts not really match up, if they come from different sets / years. BTW, I did find that BrickLink has a very nice color palette in their catalog (sorry, I am still a rookie at this stuff). But not only does it show all the colors they have made, but it also will show you a list of every part (they know of) made in that color, and a listing of every set that contains that color....pretty cool tool. http://www.bricklink.com/catalogColors.asp It doesn't give any of the color codes (RGB, etc), but other than that, it is great.
