I managed to get a couple of the new 2012 mini's this week from Bricklink. I will start off with a review of the 30056 Mini Star Destroyer. :classic:

The bags have the new Darth Maul art like the boxes.

Bag contents. Not sure why they have to fold the instuctions quite so small.

img_5002.jpg

The instructions. This is a very simple build.

Parts are not to bad, can you ever have enough gray wedge plates!

As I said the build is very simple.

The finished set is not bad at all. The main shape is pretty good and even the engine area is not too bad. :classic:

The engines have about all the detail you could expect at this scale. The shape is not quite right but again working at this scale you can not expect much more.

I think the bridge could have been a bit bigger. Maybe add a 1x1 tile between the two shield genarators.

The left over parts.

The whole set.

A nice mini (which I am a fan) with a good shape captured of the Star Destroyer. I hope these will end up in some kind of promo this year as I would like to grab a few more. :sweet:

The nice thing about this one is that it looks to be more accurate than the mini one released way back 2004?

Plus some people probably already own most of the pieces so they could probably build one before getting it to see if it's worth it or not. I hope this is a freebie with the newspaper though, would be nice to grab a couple!

great review there!

Excellent review, Mutley! I'll have to look out for these, hopefully they'll be a Target promo at some point. I just assembled one of the mini Venators and that was a decent little set.

So many people berated this set when they first saw it I think it is great for parts selection, and even good for display purposes.

I have one repurposed, and two more waiting for small pieces. I can't wait to get an official copy.

Thanks for the 411 on what you think.

Any news on where any of them can be found?

They going to be an Euro exclusive again?

They need to spread the wealth make some random country exclusives

Pick Australia, France, Germany, Maybe even Japan (The only other country besides US, and UK to get real exclusives - Namely Mini Boba Fetts Slave-1)

Looking at it again, this mini is quite better than the older one. It's done in a more "accurate" mini scale.

Could it be possible to have a comparison shot of the 2?

Doesn't look too bad... I woulda preferred they release the mini co-boxed with Executor as a standalone set, but I'll have to get one for the collection, and see which one scales out as a better companion for the big SSD.

As it is, I've been working between S@H and cannibalizing Mini Venators to get parts for four more of the "Executor companion mini"... If you have all three, a comparison between the 4420-series, the Executor escort and this would be really cool.

Let's see...

UCS Executor=50"

12"=1'

5280'=1.609km

"real" Executor=19km

19/1.609=11.809

Each stud = 5/16", so at about 160 studs OAL on Executor the best fit would be an ISD about 13-14 studs long. This ship's a little short, and I think the Executor escort (which I need to check length on) is a better match to ISD size proportions, but this is still a Gotta Have One for my Star Destroyer collection.

Great review, I wonder when this will show up in America, Valentines Day, Easter, or another holiday so target can have them as an exclusive.

Oh well, on to looking for a boatload of them.

To make a good ISD mini that goes with the SSD just look here: SSD Mod + mini ISD

And don't pay attention to Fallen...

Come now, I'm sure I've stated before that a 'real' Executor (as opposed to a 'canon' Executor) would be 17.6km. 13-14 studs is still about right for a scaled Imperator, though.

I knew you couldn't leave this alone

Nice redesign, Mortesv--looks like I need to order some 3x8 and 2x3 angles. Any chance of more pix from below? As for size... well, I'm of the Go Big Or Go Home school, and a ship like Executor I'd be inclined to give the benefit of the doubt, being built as big as practical to suggest unstoppable power just from its presence alone.
