DutchTreat Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 Hi All, Just wanted to share my "Grand Corner". Shouldn't be to hard to guess what it's inspired on... This has been standing on my table for a quite a while, and it's still not finished. Final plan is that it's going to function as the office building for my GC Limo Service. Looking forward to constructive feedback, ideas, tips&tricks! Greets, Dutch Quote
Maxxum Town Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 It's beautiful :) I especially love the balcony behind...very useful space created of the void.. Quote
TheKingOfBuilding Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 Brilliant creation DutchTreat! The use of clone trooper helmets for statues is a great idea. Does it have an interior? Quote
ER0L Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 Hi All, Just wanted to share my "Grand Corner". Shouldn't be to hard to guess what it's inspired on... This has been standing on my table for a quite a while, and it's still not finished. Final plan is that it's going to function as the office building for my GC Limo Service. Looking forward to constructive feedback, ideas, tips&tricks! WOW! Really mind-blowing! I must say this leaves me quite speechless, it is definitely one of the best CC buildings I have seen so far - very massive yet beautiful. The details are amazing, too - using the helmets like this is very ingenious. My only point - if ever - is the sign of the limo service - in my eyes this is rather an art deco detail than late 19th century style. Maybe a different color to rather strengthen this aspect than to weaken it? Anyway, I am quite envious - I think I will never be able to build something like this. Quote
lightningtiger Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 Looks fantastic 'DutchTreat', that very top art-deco tyre feature is actually AWESOME though ! Keep going and Brick On 'DutchTreat' ! Quote
DutchTreat Posted January 29, 2012 Author Posted January 29, 2012 Hi All, Thanks so far for the comments! Really appreciated. I was in very much doubt to use the limo sign on top of the building, and now I'm even more :) It was originally created to be on top of a Limo Garage (hope to post some pics later). The lower floor has some interior (stairs and a small kitchen), but no floor or furniture. Lots of idea's for the interior, but still working/trying/testing on that. Greets, Dutchtreat Quote
Redhead1982 Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 This is an amazing build! The white is perfect for such massive building, and then there are so many little details on the facade to really stand out. I like how you gave it a feel of interesting texture by using different bricks. And the darkblue roof with SW helmets looks wonderful. Anyway, I like it how you combined some details from CC and GE into this GC, it looks amazing and I can't wait to see some of the interiors once it's finished. Quote
ER0L Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 I was in very much doubt to use the limo sign on top of the building, and now I'm even more :) Not to be misunderstood: The sign itself is absolutely awesome, the combination of the two different styles is really great, I like it a lot - it adds something special to the whole thing you don't find very often. But since white is used mostly for the "brickish" parts of the building there is a slight irritation regarding the material of the sign. That is why I suggested to change its color - to rather strengthen its character, since it is meant as something metallic, I guess. Quote
Man with a hat Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 Very nice! The big sign looks great. Something different, but I like it. And the roof part works great as well with those windows and tiny balconies. The only thing that's bothering me is the medium blue line on the first floor. Somehow it doesn't work for me. It is good to have all the white compensated, but I don't think it's the right colour. Quote
L@go Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 I really like this - it's decorated without being overly ornate. Personally, I'm not crazy about the sign, but I do like the colours, both shades of blue, and the general design. My favourite part is probably the balconies in the back, they're a very nice touch. Well done, I'll be looking forward to seeing the final version! Quote
SwissBrick Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 Excellent DutchTreat!!! Very inspiring Something even more "perfect" would be a spiral stairway in the back joining the balconies.. Anyhow, IMPRESSIVE! Thanks for sharing, Simon Quote
JackJonespaw Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 This is very nice! I love the very top part! Quote
sonicstarlight Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 This is really nice - a little Cafe Corner meets Grand Emporium with the massing, but definitely unique! I for one like the sign, especially because it looks more recent than the rest of the building. Few businesses stay in operation for 100+ years, so the fact that a limo company took over the lease for someone else at one point in time adds a layer of authenticity in a way. I'll echo what someone else here said - my only critique is than medium blue stripe on the second floor. It might work better if it were thinner, line the dark tan pinstripe on the GE, but honestly that is a minor nick pick on what is a truly impressive build. Quote
Andy D Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 Very nice, I really like the style of the building. The architecture and little details add so much to the building. I don’t know why, but it reminds me of something that might seen it German official buildings from WW II, maybe it is the wheel (which reminds me of an air force type decoration) and the use of the helments. Overall I really like the building, both front and back. The balconies look like good places for mini-figs to relax and enjoy a morning coffee or an evening beverage. Thanks for sharing this. Lorentzen Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 Holy megabluck that is a wonderful creation I would love to see more of your work, and perhaps even some shots of this building along some of your other buildings if you have any. I see some really outstanding building techniques and great part uses al over - and I dig the balconys on the backside of the building. Quote
TheLegoDr Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 I really like the rear balcony. The overall design is quite nice as well, although the color scheme is a bit monotone for my taste. Although that is probably more realistic than some of the Modulars. Keep up the good work. Quote
DutchTreat Posted January 30, 2012 Author Posted January 30, 2012 Thank you all for your positive comments! Since it's still not finished, I'll try some of the tips you guys mentioned. First thing is to work on the interior and maybe some other details. As for the stripe on the first floor. I'm in doubt (again :)) if I should make it all white, dark blue, or a thin (dark blue) line as mentioned. Greets, DutchTreat Quote
Legogal Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 Wow! A lovely design with so much detail....in white. It really jumps out done this way. The modulars all have such strong colors that it is a real treat seeing one mostly in white. The sign is very cool....it represents a company, not a building, so I think that it is fine. The balconies are very sweet....know where I would be with my favorite drink....we have a long, covered balcony overlooking our back yard, and it is my favorite place on nice day. Now if you could just arrange a nice green city park behind this building, you would be able to rent the apartments in a minute! Congratulatiions on such a fine build and for giving us more ideas for future modulars. Cooool! Quote
Vincent Kessels Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 I have to agree with the others. It is a great building. The best part is the rounded corner with the windows. Quote
Brickmamba Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 Beautiful corner modular, nice color combination, just wondering if you ever thought about doing the ground floor windows with arches as well, there's a little inconsistency with the rest of the building, especially the entry compared to the style above it Quote
