Nuju Metru Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 (edited) For reference: II. THE TWO TOWERS III. THE RETURN OF THE KING I. THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING Howdy guys. This is the project topic for my custom-made sets of The Fellowship of the Ring. I realize that LEGO is making official products of the LOTR movies, too, but this project has been my brainchild since this past summer; having already poured lots of time and money into it by the time LEGO made their announcement, I decided I might as well keep going on mine. The creations below are built to be like sets that TLG themselves would make (ironic, huh?). Each one thus has specific minifigures, and even an imagined price point. My sets are built for stability, detail, playability, and differentiation of sizes. So, without further ado, let's get started! Newest Content is at the Top! 6) Ambush at Amon Hen The Fellowship makes camp near the ruins at Amon Hen, and the One Ring exerts its inexorable pull upon Boromir. Frodo makes his escape with the arrival of an Uruk-Hai troop. The Fellowship is broken. Imagined price point: $40 Features include: Launching pad Includes 5 minifigures: Frodo Baggins, Aragorn, Boromir, Lurtz, Uruk-Hai 5) The Mines of Moria The Fellowship has been forced to take the dangerous route through the Mines of Moria. Gandalf must lead his companions to safety and defeat the evil Balrog! Imagined price point: $65 Features include: Collapsing Stairs, Breaking Bridge Includes 6 minifigures: Peregrin Took, Gimli, Legolas, Gandalf the Grey, Moria Orcs (2x) 4) Weathertop Ambush Frodo and his companions have made camp at the abandoned watchtower of Amon-Sul, on Weathertop hill. But they are attacked by the Nazgul... Aragorn must save Frodo in time. Imagined price point: $25 Features include: modularity, Nazgul launcher Includes 4 minifigures: Frodo Baggins, Aragorn, Nazgul (2x) 3) The Black Rider Frodo and Merry are making their way along the road to Bree, but a dark force pursues them. The Nazgul will stop at nothing to get the Ring. Imagined price point: $10 Includes 3 minifigures: Frodo Baggins, Meriadoc Brandybuck, Nazgul 2) Wizard Duel Gandalf has arrived at Orthanc, only to discover that his superior, Saruman the White, has turned to the side of evil! Can Gandalf escape? Imagined price point: $7 Includes 2 minifigures: Gandalf the Gray, Saruman the White 1) Bag End The wizard Gandalf has arrived in Hobbiton, and as always he brings adventure. The One Ring is destined to draw Frodo into the quest of a lifetime! Imagined price point: $15 Includes 3 minifigures: Frodo Baggins, Gandalf the Gray, Samwise Gamgee See the Fellowship Flickr Set for more in-depth pictures of everything, plus other preview shots. Thanks for viewing! More sets will be posted soon! Nuju Edited August 1, 2012 by Nuju Metru Quote
Artifex Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 That's very nice! Seems it just popped-out of the screen right into Lego form! Quote
Hive Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 I really like it. I too have for a while toyed with the idea of making a series of mocs (though for Castle) that would mimick the LEGO style and could be actual sets, as I for some strange reason find doing so to be more fascinating than doing "real" mocs. You should put them on Cuscoo, maybe LEGO can use some of your designs. Quote
JackJonespaw Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 This is very nice! I agree that you should put this on CUUSOO. I think that instead of Snape's hair on Frodo, use Harry Potter's. Quote
Seaber Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 That is really good! Do you have any other Fellowship MOCs in the pipeline? I would hope if Lego released this they might include a little bit more of the hill, but what you have got so far is great, design and colourwise :) Quote
Masked Builder Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 I would definitely buy this set. It looks like the movie set and the minifigure selection is great! Quote
Poison Ivy Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 That looks great! Now one can only hope that TLG makes a Bag End set that is as good as this.... Quote
Niku Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 I like how you managed to make a good scene with limited bricks and count on minifigs, I actually see like this has a lot of potential. Nice work. Quote
CMP Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 It has that right-out-of-the-box-smell. I can completely see TLG releasing this - I can see myself purchasing it. The price point for what you created is spot-on. Quote
deskp Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 Very good. Personaly I'd want the tan bricks around the door to be orange to identify it moore as bag end. Quote
Waterbrick Down Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 Looking real good I really like Sting over the fireplace. I was a big fan of your "Rise to the Wicked" series and I'm glad to see such great quality in your next project. I can't wait for your next addition. My only qualm is the 6x1 tan arch over the window, I would think that a 1x4 with 1x1 bricks on the side would look better from the inside of the house, but other than that, it looks great Quote
K-Nut Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 This is something I wish TLG would make! Great work! Quote
Skipper Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 (edited) I'm glad you decided to continue, it'll be really interesting to compare your interpretation to TLG's. Bag End looks good, you were really thorough in including all the important features. A small prop of BIlbo's party would be nice, but if this were a real set I'd probably complain about if for unnecessarily jacking up the price. Looking forward to the next installments. What's the largest set you're planning to make? Edited February 10, 2012 by Skipper Quote
Nuju Metru Posted February 10, 2012 Author Posted February 10, 2012 First post has been updated with a new set! This is very nice! I agree that you should put this on CUUSOO. I think that instead of Snape's hair on Frodo, use Harry Potter's. I tried Harry Potter hair, but it was a little comical on Frodo - too afro-like. That is really good! Do you have any other Fellowship MOCs in the pipeline? I would hope if Lego released this they might include a little bit more of the hill, but what you have got so far is great, design and colourwise :) I do indeed have more sets in the pipeline! They will be published as soon as they've been photographed. For instance, the second set shown. As for the hill, that would have made the set a little too big for the price point I picked, but I'm glad you like the colors! Very good. Personaly I'd want the tan bricks around the door to be orange to identify it moore as bag end. Didn't have those parts in orange, unfortunately. Looking real good I really like Sting over the fireplace. I was a big fan of your "Rise to the Wicked" series and I'm glad to see such great quality in your next project. I can't wait for your next addition. My only qualm is the 6x1 tan arch over the window, I would think that a 1x4 with 1x1 bricks on the side would look better from the inside of the house, but other than that, it looks great Yeah, I can see what you mean - however, the 1x6 arch makes a cleaner exterior, adds more stability, and keeps with the whole circles/semicircles theme going. The window itself, in my fantasy life, would be round. It unfortunately isn't. I'm glad you decided to continue, it'll be really interesting to compare your interpretation to TLG's. Bag End looks good, you were really thorough in including all the important features. A small prop of BIlbo's party would be nice, but if this were a real set I'd probably complain about if for unnecessarily jacking up the price. Looking forward to the next installments. What's the largest set you're planning to make? The largest set in the lineup for the Fellowship of the Ring is going to be the Mines of Moria, at about a $60-70 price point. Thank you everyone for your feedback! Quote
Brickmamba Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 Very well done, I would easily buy Bag End over the soon to be released Gandalf's Wagon Quote
Nuju Metru Posted February 11, 2012 Author Posted February 11, 2012 New set, "The Black Rider" has been added! Take a look. Quote
Brickmamba Posted February 12, 2012 Posted February 12, 2012 Nice to see another addition, though I wonder on the accuracy of The Black Rider, from what I recall the 4 hobbits are hiding under the roots of a huge tree when the rider is nearby not a bridge, also price point anything with more than 2 figures is worth more than $10, I reckon at least $17+ for this one, keep up the good work Quote
K-Nut Posted February 12, 2012 Posted February 12, 2012 I love Saruman set! Now we need TLG to make a whit hairpiece like that. Good work. Quote
mcfarlandman Posted February 12, 2012 Posted February 12, 2012 I've got to ask - where did you get those awesome staves? Quote
badboytje88 Posted February 12, 2012 Posted February 12, 2012 I love the simplicity of your designs. Yet there are some amazing little details in each set. Please continue with these! Quote
Acheron Posted February 12, 2012 Posted February 12, 2012 I was trying to pick out a favorite of the three sets so far... except I can't. I would definitely buy all of them though. Count me charmed. I think the Nazgul takes the cake though for the minifigs. Now I look forward to a rendition of the fellbeasts.... Quote
K-Nut Posted February 12, 2012 Posted February 12, 2012 I've got to ask - where did you get those awesome staves? They're from brickforge. Quote
Nuju Metru Posted February 12, 2012 Author Posted February 12, 2012 New set has been added to the first page - Weathertop! ...Huzzah for direct competition with LEGO... Quote
Omicron Posted February 12, 2012 Posted February 12, 2012 Nice to see another addition, though I wonder on the accuracy of The Black Rider, from what I recall the 4 hobbits are hiding under the roots of a huge tree when the rider is nearby not a bridge, also price point anything with more than 2 figures is worth more than $10, I reckon at least $17+ for this one, keep up the good work Well looking at the Lego standpoint, they always make sets without all the right characters, but only a slew. Take the POTC sets. How many characters were missing from their scene-based sets? -Omi Quote
Skalldyr Posted February 12, 2012 Posted February 12, 2012 Oh my goodness. These sets are outstanding. I would love to see them as offical Lego sets! Quote
