Peppermint_M Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 The Super GP is the stellar event for all 8-wide race car drivers. Rock “Gold” Drake formerly of 100Carat Racing is back after two seasons recuperating from a horrendous accident. Sabotage was blamed but later proven falsified blood tests pointed fault on the driver. The team immediately dropped him and even publicly decried his supposed actions. Now after months of recovery, physio, counselling and a legal battle to prove his innocence Rock makes his triumphant return to racing with the well respected and founding Octan Racing team. Now a star in their constellation of great sportsmen and women, he’s ready to prove why they called him Gold. I built the racer based on the template of the Speed Racer cars; a scale I think allows both detail and LEGO styling in a size that ends with a pleasing racing car. The colour scheme was a given once I selected the racer from my childhood favourite racing overall figure parts. Quote
Etzel Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 Octan! Best LEGO company ever! Love this MOC, Pep! Speed Racer scale is indeed really good for race cars, not too big and not too small. Great job! Quote
MetroiD Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 Octan! Best LEGO company ever! Rock for the win! Great job Pep, looking forward to more of these Speed Racers from you - and maybe even a racing track later on? Quote
TheKingOfBuilding Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 Great model, the octan colors make it really stand out! Are you planning on doing more Speed Racer scale cars? Quote
Peppermint_M Posted February 15, 2012 Author Posted February 15, 2012 I have made some before: Here, and these two. I hope to make some more, I am just a little disappointed that I can't get chrome gold mudguards. MetroiD, I am planning a racing track but I need a Peppermint Cave for enough space as it is quite the build I have drafted! Quote
L@go Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 ...I am just a little disappointed that I can't get chrome gold mudguards. I'd suggest asking this guy politely. My experience is that he's generally very friendly, offers excellent service and super quick shipping - and is open to suggestions. Quote
LEGO Guy Bri Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 Great racer 'Peppermint'. Looks like a formidable opponent to Speed himself, as well as, your other three racers. Maybe get a couple green cheese slopes to make the front bumper a little more aerodynamic? Great MOC, I hope to see some more new additions Quote
lightningtiger Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 Excellent racing car 'Peppermint', more cars planned ? Don't forget the pit crews, etc.,. Brick On Race On 'Peppermint' ! Quote
Peppermint_M Posted February 16, 2012 Author Posted February 16, 2012 I'd suggest asking this guy politely. My experience is that he's generally very friendly, offers excellent service and super quick shipping - and is open to suggestions. Thanks for the tip I'll drop them an e-mail once I figure out the design I want to use. I have a car planned that is based off the classic Lotus black and gold colourscheme so I need the mudguards and some other assorted parts. Great racer 'Peppermint'. Looks like a formidable opponent to Speed himself, as well as, your other three racers. Maybe get a couple green cheese slopes to make the front bumper a little more aerodynamic? Great MOC, I hope to see some more new additions I did try, unfortunately that front is a 1x8 plate and a 1x8 tile stuck to a 1x4 SNOT brick in the center of the car front. The wheel wells are built using 1x2 inverted slopes which means no SNOT stud to connect the cheese slopes to. Otherwise I stick them to the 1x8 plate, but things just get chunkier and chunkier Excellent racing car 'Peppermint', more cars planned ? Don't forget the pit crews, etc.,. Brick On Race On 'Peppermint' ! Plenty more plans, I just need to gather the parts, I as thinking of modding the World Racer cars to a slightly more matching look as the Speed Racer cars and my Eurobricks Racer needs a rebuild. As for pit crew and the like, I am drafting a standard module that I can then use for all teams when my long planned raceway can be built. Quote
MetroiD Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 MetroiD, I am planning a racing track but I need a Peppermint Cave for enough space as it is quite the build I have drafted! Don't get me started on the need for LEGO Caves... :/ But I'm absolutely looking forward to that, for some reason I just know that you'd add an awesome Classic Town twist there Quote
JackJonespaw Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 Looks nice! The car is awfully low to the ground, though. Quote
Peppermint_M Posted February 16, 2012 Author Posted February 16, 2012 So are those racing cars. They are the kind I base most of my construction IRL refrence ideals off, with the Speed Racer cars supplying a nice template. The closer to the ground, the more speed! The British Touring Car championship is my favourite form of track racing since F1 got so boring. (IMO) I try and catch it on TV and one day I will manage to watch a race! Quote
