Kayne Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 When the world was young and the guilds were not even a thing of dreams, the land was ruled by those that could tame the lands. Built ages ago and right into the face of the Great Escarpment during such times was Mägi Linnus. A stronghold of magic and dark secrets, the halls of Mägi Linnus reside beneath the desert sands of the Siccus Badlands. Sonuja Al Katma, a sorcerer who shaped the land to his will made this is home. It is whispered among legends that Sonuja found a way to cheat death, and that he and his kin are actually still around to this day. Those same whispers insinuate that the Mountain Mummy tribes of Kaliphlin are in all actuality Sonuja Al Katma and his loyal subjects, biding their time until the day comes that they will once again rule the desert sands. Whether or not these rumors are true, the Mummy tribes have indeed move into Mägi Linnus. In those past eons, the forces of Sonuja had an uncanny ability to arrive anywhere in the desert without having been seen traveling through the desert. Those in the know, realize that this was due to the intricate layout of tunnels that run beneath the sands and appear beneath dunes, so well camouflaged that only the most trained eyes can find them. These same tunnels run from the Rakath mountains all the way to the Great Escarpment and of course in Mägi Linnus. This may explain how the Mountain Mummies make it all the way from their known lands in the Rakath Mountains throughout the deserts and all the way to the Great Escarpment. Quote
Mike S Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 (edited) Nice work! It reminds me of the Petra Ruins. Edit: Let me add that Petra is at the top of my list of favourite ruins.... Edited February 23, 2012 by Mikel Kalores Quote
SkaForHire Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 YES, YES, and More YES! I am so happy someone did something like this. I have wanted to do a Petra like MOC, but your realization is much better than I could have ever imagined. I love the built in towers, the riders, the story. This is perfect for Kaliphilin. Give us some more mystery to add to those mountain mummies. I like the weathered feel it has, the tarp over the ladder was a great touch. I am thinking that we are going to eventually need an interactive map to show all the wonders of Kaliphlin. Excellent job. Quote
Legonardo Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 Superb job! I now want to see whats inside Quote
Si-MOCs Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 Fantastic. I too have been waiting for someone to do a Petra type ruins... though I'm surprised people didn't make it for the capital And well done indeed. I loved the backstory to go with it... it makes me want to learn MORE. I wana know who build the tunnels, how do they work? how do you find them!?!? Quote
Niku Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 I love the size of it, the partially ruined and the nice details on it. Great selection of colors and minifigs too. I specially like the dino. Quote
robuko Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 Very nice Kayne! Excellent concept, beautifully made, and what a superb piece of lore! The weathering on the left tower is brilliant, vegetation well placed, and you have done an amazing job on the tan/dark tan mix for the floor. The quarter-roofs are great. The lizard rider is a lovely touch, and you can really sense the activity with the cart and fire and ladder. I guess this must be a relatively low point on the 'scarpment, as it is hundreds of metres high at Queens' Cross, so I am guessing it is down towards Eastgate? (I also hope it is not an easy way for any enemies to invade the desert - though, no matter if they do, those of us who know the exits can flood those tunels with black oil and burn any invaders out ) These mummies are so hardworking and inventive, they must have accumulated fabulous riches through the ages....and deadly ways to protect their wealth Quote
Gabe Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 Nice work Kayne! I love the idea behind it, and i applaud your ambition in going for the grand scale. The crumbling and delapidated parts work really well, and i love the dino rider! The only suggestion i can think of might be to work on the trasition from dark greys to tan at the top - at the moment it looks a bit abrupt. But overall this is wonderfully conceived and executed. Blaze Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 Wow this really looks great! I like the way it is built inside the mountainwall and Im very curious of whats inside it. It does remind me of Petra like some said before, very cool! Quote
Flint Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 Impressive build, good storyline. I agree that you have succeeded in make the place look worn down and unyielding at the same time. (...) I am thinking that we are going to eventually need an interactive map to show all the wonders of Kaliphlin. Excellent job. That's a grand idea! Are you thinking of having a map with links to MOCs integrated into the picture? If that is possible, every guild should get one. It would definitely contribute to the accessibility and finesse of the Historica builds and stories. Quote
RPGer Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 Fantastic work, Kayne, this really gives of a "mummy" feel. Quote
Hersbrucker Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 Thats a great work The size is really good for that wall Quote
CptMugwash Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 That is awesome, the details are great and good job on that sand, the dark tan mixes it up well and that story is fantastic, well done Quote
Derfel Cadarn Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 Most excellent! I have often thought about building a scene like this for ages, I really love the whole 'building built into cliff' idea. Really nice build and adds a great landmark to Kaliphlin. A epic free build indeed Quote
Maxim I Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 This is indeed one of my favorite ruins of Kaliphlin. I saw them one time on my trip to Queens Cross (I was a bit lost to be honest), and I was absolutely stunned by them! I am so glad you finally made some paintings of it, they will fit my palace-wall very nicely! --------- Great job on creating the ruin-effect! The only thing I am wondering is how they defended this building in the past. Maybe there were some fortifications who are gone now? I also love the size of the MOC! It's not to narrow or to big, just perfect Quote
Kayne Posted February 23, 2012 Author Posted February 23, 2012 Thanks for the comments guys! The first time I read about the Great Escarpment, I had this idea pop into my head. The problem was finding the time to put it into Brick. DaMaximus - It was defended by the dark magicks of the desert sorcerers. Plus the army of undead mummies helped! Blaze - I am definitely exploring the idea of doing some builds to explore those underground tunnels. Gabe - I agree, the transition turned out much harsher than I intended. I will definitely have to get some more tan and dark tan plates to make that more smooth in the future. robuko - Definitely further away from Queen's Cross. It's esact location has yet to be pinpointed, but it is not far from the southern edge of the escarpment. Quote
Jason Cicchini Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 Wow, Kayne! Excellent work! Totally loving the mummy riding the velociraptor! Quote
NiceMarmot Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 I really like this MOC! I too thought about a Petra-inspired build, but never got past some basic thoughts. Great job. It occurs to me also that you could do endless builds of the interior for this one. The size is unlimited, so you could build tons of room and tunnel MOCs to expand the storyline if you wanted. And, with your permission, so could other guild-members, as long as they stayed within the general bounds of your story. Quote
Gondabuggan Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 Ahh man, thats awesome! Nice dinosaur. :P Quote

And my guild is your guild! Of course anyone is welcome to add to the story and the builds. Quote
