Architecture Contest: Temple of the Great Jaguar

The "Temple of the Great Jaguar" or "Temple I", is a funerary temple-ceremonial built in 700 AD by the Maya civilization, being the main building of the city's largest classical Maya period late, Tikal, located in the region of Peten, Guatemala.

History

The temple was built under the rule of Kawil Cha'an Hasaw Maya ruler (682-721 AD), also known as Ah Cacao and served as a tomb for him (Burial 116, discovered by the archaeologist Aubrey Trik in the year 1962). The temple was used for various ritual ceremonies, and considered the gateway to the underworld.

Architecture

Location: Located on the Great Plaza of Tikal

Height: 45 meters

Form: pyramidal, with terraces or platforms and a staircase that runs from bottom to top.

The exterior decoration highlights the wooden lintels.

Tikal's architecture is characterized by inset corners that emphasize the effect of light and shadow. Tikal walls often consist of rock and soil cores covered with cut stone.

This is my first experience building something like this on the usual scale of Architecture, the Gran Jaguar is an emblematic build from Guatemala.
