Fives Posted July 6, 2012 Posted July 6, 2012 I've noticed that over the last few weeks, the LOTR discussion thread has become cluttered with talk about set releases and availability. I thought that that thread wasn't the place to talk about that, and seeing as the Star Wars forum has something like this, why not LOTR? So, let the discussing begin!
just2good Posted July 6, 2012 Posted July 6, 2012 (edited) Time to put out a post of the first times I saw LOTR available. Beware of a lot of links in the spoiler tab. . . .I first saw all of the regular LOTR + The Orc Forge at Target A on 6/16/2012. . Edited July 6, 2012 by just2good
General Magma Posted July 6, 2012 Posted July 6, 2012 Well, as for The Hobbit... I'm pretty sure a poster said 'LEGO The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey - Coming December 1st' or something like that, so I'd say somewhere around November at earliest, either that or just December like it said on the posters. ...Now to hope for some The Hobbit set reveals soon.

I think that date was in reference to the movie, a sort of advertisement for the actual Hobbit Movie in LEGO format for all the LEGO lovers that bought the sets. However, I think you are somewhat correct and that the Hobbit sets will be released sometime in December, along the lines and dates of the Winter Star Wars sets. Hopefully we'll get some pictures (leaks!) soon.

General Magma Posted July 6, 2012 Posted July 6, 2012 Fairly sure it's the name of a LEGO game (not video game, board game). I doubt it. I don't think they would place an advertisement on the back of every LOTR set instruction booklet only to promote a board game.
samiam391 Posted July 6, 2012 Posted July 6, 2012 Fairly sure it's the name of a LEGO game (not video game, board game). Sorry, I said that very confusingly. What I meant was it was a poster version of the actual movie's poster... re-made in LEGO format to appeal to the LEGO community. As a kind of encouragement and reminder for them to go see the movie. I wasn't referring to the release of a LEGO video game, board game, or any game whatsoever. Sorry, for the confusion.

But the movie isn't coming to theaters in December 1st but two weeks later (December 12th at the earliest)? Of course not taking in account the New Zealand world premiere, which is already in November.
thecolossus Posted July 6, 2012 Posted July 6, 2012 Link to the game on Brickipedia. I dunno if it's legit though, but it appears it'll be released in 2012. It may have come up before...

Ferrik Posted July 7, 2012 Posted July 7, 2012 I think that the Hobbit sets will probably be released some time at Christmas this year.
Captain BeerBeard Posted July 7, 2012 Posted July 7, 2012 The movie comes out on December, 14th in America, or is it the 15th?
Cammo Posted July 7, 2012 Posted July 7, 2012 The movie comes out on December, 14th in America, or is it the 15th? The Hobbit (movie) release date Tough luck for Australia, Iceland, Poland & the UK.
JackJonespaw Posted July 7, 2012 Posted July 7, 2012 But the movie isn't coming to theaters in December 1st but two weeks later (December 12th at the earliest)? Right, but remember what they did with the Avengers? Those sets came out a full month before the movie did. I think they'll come out around Thanksgiving time or late November - for the huge day - after - Thanksgiving events.
lightningtiger Posted July 7, 2012 Posted July 7, 2012 Now you know the reason why Australia likes beat New Zealand at either Cricket or Rugby ! Yep, boxing day opening in Oz....S.O.P. for us Aussie's ! Be interesting to find out when the retailers expect to see sets arrive for the movie's release.
SheepEater Posted July 7, 2012 Posted July 7, 2012 Well in any case no matter what Lego decides to do, they won't spoil the storyline for me. Almost done reading the book.
tvih Posted July 7, 2012 Posted July 7, 2012 You know, for some strange reason I still haven't read The Hobbit. I've obviously read LotR, and additionally Silmarillion (I'm not sure if I actually read it even before reading LotR)... but not Hobbit. Need to rectify that before the movies come!
Haltiamieli Posted July 8, 2012 Posted July 8, 2012 Right, but remember what they did with the Avengers? Those sets came out a full month before the movie did. I think they'll come out around Thanksgiving time or late November - for the huge day - after - Thanksgiving events. Yeah, I was just contesting that the "December 1st" poster would be referring to the movie, as I interpreted the preceding poster was argumenting, because December 1st date doesn't have much to do about the movie. I think it is very probable that the sets will be around in the US around that time, as you say. Though I suppose Finland will have to wait for 2013 before their release.
Waylander Posted July 8, 2012 Posted July 8, 2012 I would guess at mid-november. You have to give relatives some sort of financial warning as to what's coming their way :o)
Combee Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 From the article that spoiled the first Hobbit minifigs: http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/hobbit-movie-lego-sets-comic-con-2012-346300 "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey mini-figurines, which will launch Dec. 1, timed to the movie’s Dec. 14 release." I figure this pretty much confirms the date in the instruction manuals as the release date for the next wave.
Deathleech Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 Interesting! So we finally got a glimpse of the second wave from Lego!
SheepEater Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 (edited) Interesting! So we finally got a glimpse of the second wave from Lego! Cool! Now we know how they handled Bombur's belly. Bilbo looks exactly like I thought he would. Funny how they left out the most important dwarf, which I suspect on purpose. Now, I'm anxious to know how they'll handle Beorn's human aspect...perhaps a Hagrid-like giant minifig. They'll probably use the 2012 City Bear molds for his bear form; they're big enough I think. By the way, I finished reading the book yesterday. I was already spoiled about Thorin's death some time ago... but not about the 2 youngest dwarves Kili and Fili, so their death came as quite a shock. Edited July 9, 2012 by SheepEater

They didn't leave out Thorin, I believe ths minifig lineup is from the bag end set, Not just randomly put together.
Ferrik Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 Interesting! So we finally got a glimpse of the second wave from Lego! They look great. Well Gandalf is the exact same as in Gandalf Arrives, but that doesn't really matter.
