Klaus-Dieter Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 (edited) Hello everybody! For the Western fans amongst us, I have good and bad news concerning next year: The good news is that there finally will be a new Western theme which shall be out in April 2013. There will be one huge set, three medium sized sets and two small sets. Regrettably I don't more since there were only empty boxes painted in the retailer's catalogue. The imo bad news is that it will be licensed - namely based on the new Walt Disney movie "Lones Rider". Bad this is imo bad because firstly we'll get fleesh minifigures which don't go with the regular minifigures and secondly licensed means that we have to pay much more money for the sets than for possible unlicensed ones. I wait and will see. I anyway would be only interested if we got some decent civilian buildings which we're looking for since decades (saloon, ranch, post office, etc.). Gorelaxx Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 (edited) Do you mean Disney's Lone Ranger? Because it'd make sense that TLG would do another Disney film tie-in. Lightningtiger beat me to it Edited September 11, 2012 by Gorelaxx Quote
purpleparadox Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 We-elllllllp....I'm gonna run out of money soon! Quote

IAmWillGibson Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 More Johnny Depp minifigures! Why is he called the Lone Ranger, when he always had Tonto with him? Quote
deskp Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 (edited) This is awesome! Even tho I know next to nothing of the lisence. should give us some cool molds and minifigures! I hope we get Johnny minifig with the bird on the head(even if one without a bird would be reusable). For gods sake, lets hope the mods keep the discussion for this theme in the HISTORY forum, otherwise they are being incredibly inconsistent. Edited September 11, 2012 by deskp Quote
andhe Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 (edited) This is awesome! Even tho I know next to nothing of the lisence. should give us some cool molds and minifigures!... From what I've read about the development of the film it may deviate quite a bit from the original character/show. There was talk of supernatural elements... so imagine a 'Pirates of the Caribbean' style western... Werewolves, zombies and Johnny Depp as Tonto with a dead crow stuck to his headress. Edited September 11, 2012 by andhe Quote
Walter Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 Actually some of the supernatural stuff isn't going to be in the final film. Werewolves and zombies were cut from the story due to budget issues if I remember correctly. As happy as I am for this theme, I'm still hoping we get some Oz: The Great and Powerful sets. Quote
deskp Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 FOr generaly informing people, here is a image of johnny depp in his full getup head to toe: LINK Quote
Wardancer Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 Sounds like a lot of horses which I look forward to. Quote

deskp Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 Yeahhhh finally we get western themed sets even their lisenced, still I'm exited!!! I only ever buy lisenced sets/minifigs so I'm excited, I do enjoy seeing all the non lisenced stuff lego makes tho, I just don't feel a need to own it. Quote
Combee Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 This is exciting news! I really enjoyed the old western theme. I expect that we'll get some different colored horses (which would be great). I wonder how this theme will affect the upcoming Cuusoo decision from the summer review? Quote
Bricktooth Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 (edited) Johnny Depp's hair in this film looks a lot like Jack Sparrow's (plus the headband), but unfortunately because of the bird, the piece can't be reused. Too bad for that, it would be nice to see that part reused in another fig. Edited September 11, 2012 by Bricktooth Quote

Theres also the diference btween dreads and flat hair The Hippie hair would be a better fit, but the headband doesent look right. Quote
Bricktooth Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 I was thinking about its shape, plus the feather on the side resembles Jack's little thing in his hair on his right (I don't know what it is, maybe a piece of carved bone?) Quote
Tinn-man Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 I'm pretty excited about this, mainly because most reports I've read about the movie have said that it will, "feature one of the biggest locomotive train setpieces ever to be put on film." Hopefully, that translates into a few LEGO train sets. I honestly wouldn't doubt if that ends up being the 'flagship' set of the wave, actually. Can't wait to see what comes out of this. Quote

Is that still in the movie? I remember there being talk about it being insanely expensive, aswell as the being budget cuts or soemthing? As someone else noted, will be interesting seeing what happens with the cuusoo western set. Quote

I expect that we'll get some different colored horses (which would be great). I wonder how this theme will affect the upcoming Cuusoo decision from the summer review? If this is going to be a licensed theme, then it might be bad news for Marshall's (generic) Modular Western Town as they might not want competing western themed kits (just as Pirates is on hold until PotC plays out and LotR is the new Castle series) I hope it doesn't, I'd take a generic "West" over a Disney "West" any day, but at least its something. I'm holding out for a nice western style steam train... Quote
Bricktooth Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 The Modular Western Town would probably be a D2C set, which means the target audience would be different, so there wouldn't be much competition. Quote
Mark of Falworth Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 This is an interesting turn of events, It will be nice to see more western, it will be less fun and or annoying because it's licensed. Quote
Klaus-Dieter Posted September 11, 2012 Author Posted September 11, 2012 Thank you for the pics concerning the movie! Two things: 1. Looking at these pictures, I fear the worst concerning my wish for a decent and realistic Western theme. I'll wait and see. But in principle it's for me already dead now since this has nothing to do with the Wild West but only with fantasy. 2. I really, really hope that the CUSOO project will nevertheless be released - it would be a shame if TLG didn't! Klaus-Dieter Quote
Pulp Detective Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 Any ideas when the trailer is going to be realesed?Only one pic dont give us ideas about the sets. Quote
