Posted October 22, 201212 yr Hello again, this is part 2 for my 8x8 TrialTruck. First part was design and optimize the truck virtual with Lego Digital Designer. You can find this topic here: Pure 8x8 TrialTruck Now, that I´ve got all parts received that i need (and can´t wait any longer for x-mas ), I´ll build the truck in real. This is where i wanna get to. This will not be a step by step building instruction with pics for the truck. Only want to show you, that I´m building it.Have fun watching. October 22, 201212 yr Looks great in real life. Shock absorbers in this version seems to be much better than in that very first original LDD file. I wonder how much will push it down the weight of the body. Looking forward to see a video with a first test ride. With all these part you should be able to build also the 4x4 version you designed for TC 2012.
October 22, 201212 yr Author thx @hrontos I´ve used the hard shock absorbers. There´s not really a push from the weight of the whole truck. But i guess the range of the absorbers was maybe too small. I´ve seen also some other things I need to optimize/change, but more after the last pics and testdrive Greetz Markus Edited October 22, 201212 yr by MarkusOSX
October 22, 201212 yr But i guess the range of the absorbers was maybe too small. I´ve seen also some other things I need to optimize/change, but more after the last pics and testdrive Shock absorbers range in this configuration may look small, but real life 8x8 vehicles (like those participating in Dakar rally) also have limited range. And I think, that in your scale, your range matches well the real ones. These "structural" issues are difficult to judge when building in LDD. That is probably the weakest issues in digital design. October 22, 201212 yr So, did it all realize smoothly? Any errors found or weakpoints in real model compared to LDD?
October 22, 201212 yr Author Yes, there are some points, that i need to fix but no errors. - The steering system works good, but seems too weak for trial. The small gear seems to slip over the gear rack sometimes if there ist too much resistance at the wheel. - The driving speed ist just to low i guess, but I´ll try another gear ratio in the portals. - Maybe the range of the absorbers, but as hrontos said, that seems ok for this kind of truck. - Maybe need to stabilize the setup of the wormgear for the drive But all in all looks pretty good Greetz Markus Edited October 22, 201212 yr by MarkusOSX
October 22, 201212 yr Well done, with the body the wheel angles look just like on real Dakar Tatra without load. Looking forward to see it "in the wild".

October 23, 201212 yr This is a cool truck.. i love how it looks and i'm impressed that you built such a large model from CAD first.
October 23, 201212 yr Author thx @ all Atm I´m changing the steering-system. The first one is to weak for trial. So I´ll make one without the geartracks. Video must wait.... Greetz Markus i'm impressed that you built such a large model from CAD first. I only had a few LEGO technic parts, so I needed to design it first virtual, and then order the parts from BL. Greetz Markus Btw: The LDD-File in my signature contains already the new steering system. Version 10.5 Edited November 8, 201212 yr by MarkusOSX
October 23, 201212 yr Author Hi, here some short videos about steering system and suspension. You can see, that the gear tracks not very tight, so I´ll change this for next version. http://youtu.be/_aRbV8xeuTg http://youtu.be/V-Q-PYBTzDg Single suspension. http://youtu.be/g3p2buYT31o The chassis seems to be very stable. http://youtu.be/y77aftXtrm4 Greetz Markus Edited October 23, 201212 yr by MarkusOSX
October 24, 201212 yr The only thing i see wrong is the tyres popping out when suspension is compressed. All other things are great!
October 25, 201212 yr looks fantastic but arent 2XL motors a little too weak? those insane polish freaks usually use 4 buggy motors for their truck trial trucks! also i find this 26sec videos pretty annoying. id prefer one long video that shows everything. and why are you using 2 recivers? isnt it only steering + drive? or did i miss something? keep up the fantastic work

October 25, 201212 yr Okay, Markus, I really like your trial truck, and if I had a PC instead of an iPad, I would download your ldd file, and if I had money, I would buy the parts on bricklink to make it. Unfortunately, I am limited to a mobile device and the pieces I have on hand, so I decided to build a small tribute to this design. I hope you like it! :)
