kabel Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 (edited) At the edge of the village lies a rather quiet house inhabited by an old man: Today is a rather nasty day. It's cold, wet and dark outside. Grandpa is happy that he's inside and has a warming fire going in the stove. Live has become rather lonely after his wife had died and the kids living in the big city now. At least they write him letters every then and now: Still, Grandpa feels really lonely in his house with no one around, especially around Christmas. So why bother to decorade? Ain't noone coming this way anyway! But hey, what was that? Has the bell just rung? Yes, surpise! It's Danny, Grandpa's grandson coming around with a Christmas tree, what a great day for ole Grandpa! House in comparison to another village structure: The car has acutally been in another of my mocs before, that's why I didn't put it into better perspective. Hope you guys like my little build/story. My kids at least loved it and keep playing with it for hours! Edited January 3, 2013 by kabel Quote
jimmynick Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 I like the inclusion of yellow doors and windows; that makes the building look a little brighter than other Winter Village houses and shops. I also like the Tudor style walls, which look fantastic in brown and tan. Great build all round, kabel! Quote
brickdad46 Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 Good job, very nice litte house. We need more houses in our winter vllage. Quote
greg3 Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 Nice little house... I like the background story to it too. Quote
Kristel Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 This is a great little build, with some nice details, like the snow on top of the fence posts. The pot belly stove is awesome! But the story is a little sad. I really hope that doesn't reflect the Christmas you just had. Quote
kabel Posted January 3, 2013 Author Posted January 3, 2013 Thanks guys for the positive comments! I actually tried to stay close to the size of the other builds, that's why I didn't build anything bigger. @Kristal: No, don't worry. My Christmas was great. I had bought the Post Office for my kids and build this house to accompany it. They are still playing with it for hours, just what I had wanted to achieve. The real reason for the story is that I didn't feel like putting on any cheesy Christmas decoration. And who but an grumpy old grandpa would not decorate his house in even the slightest way? Quote
lightningtiger Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 Cool little cottage 'kabel', I like that little stove/heater.....cute and cool at the same time......good luck and Brick On 'kabel' ! Quote
TheLegoDr Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 The heater is brilliant. I hadn't thought of that, but since I've never really seen one I wouldn't even think to build one. Great job there. My favorite aspect is the baseplate being angular. It gives more depth to the build without having to create depth in the building itself. I hadn't thought of that. I tore down part of my building because it was way too big and square, but I like how you did that. And it fits in size wise with the rest of them. Best of luck to you for the contest. There is some really good competition this year. Quote
Ferrik Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 Excellent MOC as well as a superb story. The stove looks great, by the way. Quote
viracocha Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 Very nice house. I like the small stove and the asketic furniture. Quote
kabel Posted January 4, 2013 Author Posted January 4, 2013 Yeah, the stove is something I really like a lot too. When I was a kid we lived in an old house with stoves in every room. Actually a lot of work and dirt, especially when we as kids had to get the coal from the basement or take out the ashes. I was glad when our landlord finally installed a heating system by the mid-nineties. Today however, with gas and oil being so expensive people are getting back into stoves again and I certainly wouldn't mind having one again. The heat has just a completely different feel than the heat of a heater. And since open fire places are not very efficient, grandpa much rather needed the stove! Quote
soccerkid6 Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 Very nice cottage, the dormer and angled fence are my favorite details Quote
Gryphon Ink Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 Nice job. That stove is an excellent WV-esque detail. Quote
Wedge09 Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 Nice work  I really like the stove Quote
Emma Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 The stove is really neat, and I especially like the style you chose for the house walls. Cute story too. Quote
RedBrick1 Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 Sad story, cute MOC. Very nicely done, like the attic and that stove is really cool... Or hot... Quote
SilentMode Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 This is awesome, I really like the interior and the clean design of the roof. Quote
kabel Posted January 5, 2013 Author Posted January 5, 2013 Thanks everybody for commenting! Your positive feedback is rather uplifting! Quote
AlcoEmmen Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 Bit to gloomy for my winter-village-taste, but just looking at the build a very nice home. The stove is very clever, and the upstairs fits perfect with a grandpa house :-) Quote
