Scootercide Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 (edited) Well I don't usually do Sci-Fi or post much, but I am a long time reader and decided to try my hand at something different for me: a Tron Light Cycle match. I decided to use trans-clear plates for the jetwall with trans blue and red underneath. As light shines through it gives a more diffused color. The two cycles are neck and neck. I have wanted to use this part for a while. http://www.bricklink...tem.asp?P=85940 Finally here is the build in the light to show the 16x16 layout and to show that the light barriers are indeed trans-clear. Any advice on photographing such a dark subject would be welcome. Thanks for looking. Flickr set http://flic.kr/s/aHsjDGRzEP Edited January 31, 2013 by Scootercide Quote
Vindicare Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 Awesome! Great use of so few parts. Very cool! Quote
DraikNova Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 I think I should just describe this as "Megablocking Awesome." Quote
4estFeller Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 (edited) I was waiting for someone to do TRON. I was going to try it myself, but TRON is so hard to pull off in LEGO, especially in micro. Edited January 22, 2013 by 4estFeller Quote
toutouille Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 very beautiful. I use a white Led lamp and a desktop lamp to take dark photo. It's very difficult to make a good light. Quote
Teessider Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 I love the use of lighting to give the trans-clear bricks colour. Have you got access to a tripod, because that would allow you to use a long exposure time? Quote
-zenn Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 These are neat, love the way you diffused the colors. What lightsource did you use to go under the build? Quote
MorsLEGO Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 Fun build! The transparent pieces above the colored ones gives a great effect! Suggestions for taking pictures in the dark will sort of depend on what kind of camera you are using, but here are some basics that I use... *Use a tripod (if you aren't already). Even a cheap one will help, and use the self timer function on the camera. This reduces shake. *Does your camera have the ability to adjust the ISO, if so set it to 100 to get rid of the noise. *another option if your camera allows you to change shutter speed is to use dim lighting and a very fast shutter speed to make the picture dark (you're limiting the amount of light getting to the sensor). This will reduce shake and noise. *I'd also recommend setting the white balance to "incandescent" if you can to get rid of the red tint (or adjust the color balance in something like GIMP/photoshop). Hope these help! If I can be of any more help just ask Quote
Si-MOCs Posted January 24, 2013 Posted January 24, 2013 Wow that's really nice! I never thought about doing it with trans like that before... I am tempted to build this on a big scale as for photo tips - MorLEGO has some great suggestions, and given that you're using an iPhone, I'm actually really impressed at the quality you were able to get - great job! and steady hands! ... but main thing would be get a real digital camera and apply his suggestions! Scootercide Posted January 24, 2013 Author Posted January 24, 2013 Thanks for the compliments. I used a desk lamp so I could orient the light under my setup. The difficult part was supporting the creation and blacking out all but the interior. I appreciate the photo tips. I do have an older camera with a small tripod that I can try some of the suggested settings. I'll see if I have time to retake some photos before the deadline. I did indeed use an iPhone; it is just quicker to make minor edits and load to Flickr with. Quote
Scootercide Posted January 31, 2013 Author Posted January 31, 2013 I took some of the photo suggestions and tried a real camera and tripod. Thanks again! Quote
customBRICKS Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 Wow, this build is amazing! I love the idea and execution Quote
