Gabe Posted January 25, 2013 Posted January 25, 2013 Here is the latest addition to the Kaliphlin fleet... the "Basilisk's Gaze", so called as the approach of this monster can petrify the enemy! ;) There is room for 26 oarsmen below decks, and plenty of archers up top. Despite it's size, it is highly manuverable and fast under full sail. Here we see her patrolling a small island off the coast of Kaliphlin, making sure the pirates pay thier taxes etc... ;) I actually built this display for Brickvention, a Lego convention that was held in Melbourne last weekend. It was lucky enough to win best in show! Which kinda blew my mind, in a good way of course! :D Anyway, i hope you have enjoyed looking at my latest ship, c&c is very welcome! :) Quote
TenorPenny Posted January 25, 2013 Posted January 25, 2013 I have nothing but praise for this beast of the seas..! Well done. Quote
Maxim I Posted January 25, 2013 Posted January 25, 2013 Like I said earlier, this ship is just awesome!!!!!! My English is not good enough to name all the details of a ship, but then again, if it was good enough, the list with all the nice details would be too long for a post About the total MOC: I like how you made the fundaments of the rock! I especially mean those bricks on the edges Also happy to see that SW planet piece incorporated! Maybe I'll use that as well in the future as it fits very well! Quote
Kayne Posted January 25, 2013 Posted January 25, 2013 Very nice! I really like the brick built hull to it Quote
Captain BeerBeard Posted January 25, 2013 Posted January 25, 2013 I like the ship but am actually more interested with the island. Is there any chance of more pics coming our way? Quote
soccerkid6 Posted January 25, 2013 Posted January 25, 2013 I second Captain's motion The ship is magnificent and the island is just jaw-dropping, the landscaping ruins and tower are all superb The "best in show" was well deserved Quote
-obelix- Posted January 25, 2013 Posted January 25, 2013 Wow, an amazing ship topped with that greatly detailed landscape. Absolutely stunning! Quote
Brickington Posted January 25, 2013 Posted January 25, 2013 Your talent out of 1 to 10 is 100. Amazing work! Quote
Wedge09 Posted January 25, 2013 Posted January 25, 2013 Great work  Very well detailed Quote
kabel Posted January 25, 2013 Posted January 25, 2013 Love it, what else to say, just perfect? The Mitgardian fleet seem rather primitive in comparison to this. However, we don't need any slaves to get our ships from A to Z ... Quote
Gabe Posted January 26, 2013 Author Posted January 26, 2013 Thanks all for your kind words about my ship! Here are some more pics of the island part of the display, for those who are interested: Hmm, that face looks familar... Yohoho, it's a pirate's life for me... Close up of the pirate tavern and covered walkway to the lighthouse path. The local lighthouse, with some familar architecture. ;) A wild genie appears! And a last pulled back shot, which was kindly edited by Kyle Collard (Lazer Blade on Flickr), while i was busy at Brickvention. :) The Mitgardian fleet seem rather primitive in comparison to this. However, we don't need any slaves to get our ships from A to Z ... Neither did the Athenians! Nocturnian galleys might use slaves below deck, but us Kaliphlin earn enough from oil and trade that we can afford to pay for skilled oarsmen. ;) ps. I would also like to note that Tazmaniac was at Brickvention as well and won a commendation for his expanded "Gaurded Inn", so GoH was well represented at the event! :) Quote
Captain BeerBeard Posted January 26, 2013 Posted January 26, 2013 Thanks for the extra pics! I love it. Quote
de Gothia Posted January 26, 2013 Posted January 26, 2013 Epic for sure Gabe! This is so nice! The ship is the highlight here! So very good looking! Fun to see that you used some mocs that are familiar to us in GoH! And a big horray for the win! Quote
Niku Posted January 26, 2013 Posted January 26, 2013 My goodness your return is really a great thing, but returning with this is just awesome. I am interested as the captain in more photos about that island, looks fantastic. Quote
Mike S Posted January 26, 2013 Posted January 26, 2013 Awesome MOC! I really like how you did the foilage hanging off the cliff and of course the rockwork and ship are great as well. Excellent work! Quote
Ecclesiastes Posted January 26, 2013 Posted January 26, 2013 As said on flickr, absolutely stunning and great to see a build from you again. What I didn't notice yet is the directions sign at the corner of the moc, that is briljant! Quote
Kai NRG Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 Great job! Beautiful ship and I love the rock work! The sand looks great and the water texture is very well done! Great to see you back! Quote
Gabe Posted January 29, 2013 Author Posted January 29, 2013 Thanks for the extra pics! I love it. No worries mate, glad you like it. Epic for sure Gabe! This is so nice! The ship is the highlight here! So very good looking! Fun to see that you used some mocs that are familiar to us in GoH! And a big horray for the win! Haha, thanks deGothia! I'm just stoked that i got to finish my ship at last, it had been hanging around the studio half-finished for ages! My goodness your return is really a great thing, but returning with this is just awesome. I am interested as the captain in more photos about that island, looks fantastic. Thanks Niku, glad you like it! If you are interested, there are a couple more pics of the island on my Flickr, also, if you search the Brickvention group on Flickr there are a few more there as well. Awesome MOC! I really like how you did the foilage hanging off the cliff and of course the rockwork and ship are great as well. Excellent work! Cheers Masa! Argh, that foliage... so hard to transport. I spent hours reattaching/rearranging the bits that had fallen off during bump-in. At one point i wondered if i was doing flower arranging rather than Lego...! As said on flickr, absolutely stunning and great to see a build from you again. What I didn't notice yet is the directions sign at the corner of the moc, that is briljant! Cheers Ecclesiastes! It sure is nice to be back. The compass rose was a bit of a last minute addition - it filled up that corner nicely. I'd tried a compass rose before in a much earlier buildwith mixed results, so i was keen to try it out again. Great job! Beautiful ship and I love the rock work! The sand looks great and the water texture is very well done! Great to see you back! Thanks Kai! Now for challenge 6! Quote
Brickington Posted January 29, 2013 Posted January 29, 2013 Great Idea for the smoke! Ingenuity! Quote
Legonardo Posted January 29, 2013 Posted January 29, 2013 like I sadi on flickr, this could almost turn me to kaliphlin. congrats on your win, I love this thing, one of my favorite mocs. Quote
Gabe Posted January 29, 2013 Author Posted January 29, 2013 Great Idea for the smoke! Ingenuity! Thanks, but it's not an original idea of mine. It's actually quite an old trick - i've seen it around on heaps of mocs! like I sadi on flickr, this could almost turn me to kaliphlin. congrats on your win, I love this thing, one of my favorite mocs. Aw thanks Legonardo, such high praise! You'd be welcome in Kaliphlin anytime - it's never to late to switch, you know! Quote
