Praiter Yed Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 (edited) I've used this competition as an excuse to build a vignette from my 'to-do' list - it was either this or an ant sabotaging the innards of a computer (does anyone even remember Phase IV?). Initially I intended using the CMS chimp but it was too small so a monkey had to stand in ... Sci-Fi Classics on Flickr Hopefully I'll get chance to take more/better images before the deadline. C & C welcome but please don't mention that I've used a monkey instead of an ape Edited January 30, 2013 by Praiter Yed Quote
J.V.D. Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 Great vig, Praiter Yet... Immediately recognizable even without reading the title.. a classic opening scene from what maybe is the "mother of all scifi movies" ... (well there are a handfull of others, but still..). Good luck with your entry. Quote
Wedge09 Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 Nice work  I like in particularly the style of the ground Quote
jimmynick Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 Brilliant! It's so wonderfully presented, and the slope bricks and dark tan are great. Quote
Jargo Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 I remember phase IV. Multicoloured ants. arranging the dead ants in rows. Brilliant 1970's sci-fi. Slow but brilliant. Cool vig' btw. Love the landscaping and it takes a moment to see the monolith but then it's like the scene comes alive. Quote
Si-MOCs Posted January 29, 2013 Posted January 29, 2013 I hate every chimp I see, from Chimpan A to Chimpan Zeee..... wait wrong movie. Really nice build, I'm loving the rockwork you put in and the monkey pose is really great (but where's the rest of his clan?!). (You could have also used a CMF ape suit too... I've seen that done a few times ) Quote

Nice work  I like in particularly the style of the ground Brilliant! It's so wonderfully presented, and the slope bricks and dark tan are great. Thanks guys. I really wanted to use as much dark-tan as possible and as I don't own many dark-tan plates, I was forced to SNOT the ground - a bit out of my comfort zone but I think it worked out OK. I hate every chimp I see, from Chimpan A to Chimpan Zeee..... wait wrong movie. IMO by moving the action to the front of the monolith and not including his 'clan' it's more symbolic of the influence the alien artefact is exerting on his primitive brain... In other words, my Lego collection only includes two monkeys & a CMS chimp and one of them is currently MIA (bloody Kids no doubt!) . The CMF ape guy does work well - but I don't have any of them either Quote
genecyst Posted January 29, 2013 Posted January 29, 2013 very nice work, i've done an msfc entry with almost the same scene! http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=78336#entry1490695 Quote

Praiter Yed Posted January 30, 2013 Author Posted January 30, 2013 @Si-MOCs: Since doing this I've looked at some other versions of this scene - there's lots of good ones built in the 'classic' studs up Lego style. Many AFOLS prefer that look, I can honestly say I like both styles, so not better, just different . Images in first post updated. Quote
