Lasse D Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 Nuremberg Toy Fair is currently on and shows the sets of fall 2013, which gives us a sneek peak on the new parts to expect. As of now we can see that the builders who have looked for the 1x2 curved slope the last couple of years will finally get the part: (See the white piece above the upper-most trans blue 1x1 plate) I'm so happy :) Quote
Redhead1982 Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 You have good eyes to catch a detail like that. Introduction of new theme is certainly a nice opportunity for new types/colours of bricks, and Friends seem to bring many that I like and find useful. Quote
Jargo Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 It's in a useful colour too. I wish the smaller city boats had got tan decks though instead of grey or white. Quote
jonwil Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 Is it just me or is that boat using pirate hull pieces? Quote
ShaydDeGrai Posted February 1, 2013 Posted February 1, 2013 I hope these show up in a lot of sets. I can think of several of MOCs around my office that are crying for that piece, not to mention designs I haven't even built yet. I'll take several dozen in just about any color they come in... Quote
brodey1 Posted February 1, 2013 Posted February 1, 2013 I love how Lego has been giving us so many new pieces in recent years. Quote
ShaydDeGrai Posted February 2, 2013 Posted February 2, 2013 I love how Lego has been giving us so many new pieces in recent years. I love that those new pieces are generic building elements with lots of reuse potential, unlike a decade ago when so many of the new molds were specialized or "macro" pieces. Quote
Front Posted February 2, 2013 Posted February 2, 2013 I love that those new pieces are generic building elements with lots of reuse potential, unlike a decade ago when so many of the new molds were specialized or "macro" pieces. I completely agree. But a curved brick like mentioned in the first post, although very useful, don't get close to the awesomeness of pieces like these from 2012: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=99206 http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=99207 http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=99780 http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=99780 Because of these, 2012 should be considered the top year for "snot-builders". As a guy who engineer these parts (I model the bricks in 3D, mostly based on a designers sketch, or 3D sketch), these kind of parts are very boring to do. I like a challenge in my 3D CAD software, NX Unigraphics. Example of parts released in 2013 that are cool to do from a modeling perspective: Space cocoon: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=11598 Eagle minifig helmet: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=12549pb01 Erland Part Design Quote
jonwil Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 I like that LEGO is giving us some nice new parts and that they are spending less on one-time-only parts (and big junorised parts) and more on parts that have generic uses. Although parts like http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=11650c01 seem like a step backwards... Quote
gedren_y Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 As I and others noted in the 2013 Castle thread, there is now a 4x4 facet brick on the way. There is also a 2x2 corner wedge piece in Castle. Quote
Lyichir Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 The Chima Lion Chi Temple features an interesting part: a piece like this but with a clip like on this piece instead of a click hinge. It also features the 1x2x2/3 curved slope mentioned by the topic starter, but in dark stone gray. Quote

Although parts like http://www.bricklink....asp?P=11650c01 seem like a step backwards... Urgh! Did not notice that was all one part, I nearly bought one of those blue cases yesterday, glad I did not as I would not have been pleased to get such an ugly big part. I do like the inverted tiles that we have been getting recently and have picked a few up from Bricklink as i feel they will be very useful at some point in a MOC. I hope that they are going to appear in various sizes though and not just 2x2 as good as that is there will inevitably be a need at some time for a inverted tile in 1x2 or even 1x1. Quote
Lyichir Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 Speaking of inverted parts, I just got a glimpse of another new part. Look at the little bit of lower jaw in the croc vehicle in this picture. It appears to be a 1x4 inverse curved slope (like a 1x3 curved slope, but upside down with studs on top and with a 1x1 plate sticking off the center of the thicker end). Quite an interesting piece! gedren_y Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 There is also a different version of the Chima armor in that pic. Quote

I built my first Gothic Cathedral back in the 1990s muttering about how there are no Gothic arches... and I had to satisfy myself with Romanesque ones!! But now the problem is this... will it be available in at least a few colors?? White is a good start. But I was disappointed that with the new 3x3 low slope inside corner that was built for the Robie House Architectural set... it's still only available in dark red! Here was my Gothic Cathedral... had to be red... before Bricklink and internet... didn't have much of a choice.... But I captured the essence of Gothic, even though I didn't have pointed arches.... To be fair the only sets that piece appears in are all made for little kids just getting out of Duplo and into real Lego Quote
Jareth Posted February 17, 2013 Posted February 17, 2013 http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=11610 I hope this part becomes available in greater quantities and other colors Quote

Lyichir Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 Tried to build what I could of 70007 Eglor's Twin Bike and discovered that it seems to use another new piece. It's like this one, but one brick shorter. Could be useful. Quote
