How many studs tall is the Power functions Battery box. I want to hide it in my Lego train so it won't stick out.

This is the battery box I'm talking about

Also is the rechargable battery box the same size as the AAA battery box

4 Bricks / 12 Plates tall.

The rechargable and AAA box are the same size.

Thats a good question, until just now when I pulled one of each out of my trains to double check that fact, I always assumed they were

Thank you. But I've decided to not do it since it would make the engine to long since it would also have the ir reciver in it. Is it possible to run a train just using 88000 power functions AAA battery box. and 88002 power functions train motor. Would the train go when I turned the battery box on.

I'm asking since I don't own these functions and I'm working on my train in Ldd.

And how many studs tall is 88002 power functions train motor not counting the pin connector

Yes it would go if you turned it on. But it would go full speed and probably derail in corners.

The motor bogie is the same size as the 9V motor. If that helps...

Ok I've designed it so the train motor is in the engine and the battery box and IR reciever is in the coal car.

What you're saying is completely wrong ;-) The rechargable battery box has a speed-control (current-wheel) that controls speed. So Takanuinuva, you will not need the IR receiver in order for your train to go at different speed becuase the speed is controlled directly at the orange dial on the battery box.

He said AAA battery box. Not rechargable. Youre correct the rechargeable has the wheel. Not the AAA box. That only has a switch. I have both types so I know.

Oh, my bad, sorry. I thought he was reffering to the rechargable :-)

If the AAA box has a speed control. That would be better than using the Ir reciever.

As me and spitfire has sorted out; the rechargable one has a speed control, NOT the regular AAA box ;) haha ;) Both have the same size though.

Oops I meant the rechargable one. :P

Well if you are getting the rechargeable box, then you are looking at about 55 USD more than just the AAA box. (Taking into account the box is 50 USD and the charger is around 15-20 USD.) Sorry I dont have actual prices, Im not in the mood to go on Legos website. Ill start thinking about spending more money.

Just to clarify, (this may matter depending on how tall your engine is). You need to allow for 5 studs of height for the battery box to allow the PF wire to plug in. I found this out whe testing the fit for my Mikado's tender. The plug, IIRC, is 2 1/2 plates high on top of the battery box, and you can not attach plates to the top of it.
