Emerald Night and PF motors

Good morning gang,

I recently recieved a batch of parts from bricklink and would like some feedback if possible regarding the EN.

I currently have my EN built with an XL motor in he engine and an additional small pf motor in the tender. This setup has work for dealing with uneven track and the EN getting stuck. I would like to re do the design and remove the small motor in the tender and use the PF train bogie on the tender instead. My question is how will this affect the XL motor with the pf train bogie on the tender.

I am considering removing the XL motor all together and just using the PF bogie instead. The XL motor is loud and slow.

Let me know what everyone thinks as this will be my weekend rebuild starting tonight.

I wouldn't rely solely on the motor bogie. And tenders rarely look good with 2 axles. Especially a large engine such as the EN. If you're looking for extra pulling power, why not build a baggage coach to house 2 motor bogies. That would give you extra pulling power and speed while not compromising the tenders design.

I have built a baggage coach with that exact thought in mind. I posted pics a while back here on the board.

I have a PF extension line and am thinking about putting two small PF motors in the luggage car. Any feedback there? With the small PF motor in the tender it does not seem to be getting enough traction and I ran out of space to put any weights to resolve this.

No, no. I mean keep the loco motor if you can. Remove the motor from the tender definitely. The tender looks better with 3 or 4 axles anyway. And the powered baggage coach should be able to pull the entire train. Though having a motor in the loco still would be useful if you plan to run the loco alone for a short while, such as changing coaches or going into a shed.
