soccerkid6 Posted May 23, 2013 Posted May 23, 2013 (edited) Another build showing some of the great Dwarven city of Hradcanny. This particular build shows one of the gates into the underground sections of the city. Jayan is originally from Hradcanny so he and Joktan have come to try and gather some dwarves willing to help fight the Hand outside of their city: More pictures showing the interior here: http://www.brickbuilt.org/?p=602 Any C&C appreciated Edited January 12, 2016 by soccerkid6 Quote
Bighappysmiles Posted May 23, 2013 Posted May 23, 2013 Wow! That looks really good! I like how you built it into the side of the mountain! The roof is also very well done! I would like to suggest one thing though, add some accents to the walls. The just gray walls look very monotone and I think it would improve the moc greatly just to incorporate differing colours. I love all of your builds, they are very good! I can't wait to see some more! Quote
Infernum Posted May 23, 2013 Posted May 23, 2013 Whoa! Great work! I need to build some more! I love the snow, mountains and roof! The only thing I don't like is the border. I just think it looks a little wierd. Great work! Quote

Thanks Infernum, the border is definitely out of the ordinary, but I kind of like it, I don't use that design often though Quote
Gideon Posted May 23, 2013 Posted May 23, 2013 Nice build, I really like to see more of the dwarven culture of Historica! Contrary to Infernum, I really like the "icy" border you have created...feels very Mitgardian The old dwarf is just perfect Quote
Nightstalker Posted May 23, 2013 Posted May 23, 2013 I like the use of the heroica axes as a gate decoration. The snow layering is also seems pretty good as well! Keep it up! Quote
Garmadon Posted May 23, 2013 Posted May 23, 2013 I agree with Gideon, I actually like that border a good deal. I like how you made the castle look like it was in the mountains, without making the mountains too tall I might have said this before, but I would suggest separating your light (and dark) bluish gray bricks from the older gray bricks (non-bluish ones), so that the wall is all the same color. Anyways, nice build, I enjoy the variety of pieces you used on the walls. Quote
Legonardo Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 Nice one Soccerkid! lots of dwarven builds recently, Im going to have to act fast to an idea done before anyone else does it love it, keep em coming! Quote
Captain BeerBeard Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 I like this as an entrance way. That is a cool idea storywise. I don't like the roof design so much though. I think your idea's with the stone work are superb. I will be posting a roof tutorial soon. Make sure to check it out. Quote
Str0ngbad Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 I love how you avoided any arches on this build in favor of angles. In my mind, that is a staple of dwarven craftsmanship and it definitely works for this gate. Your snowscape is nice too. The cheese slopes and raised tiles make very effective drifts. I like your dwarf but I think that I would stick a cape on him to see if it would lessen how much those pauldrons seem to stick out. All in all a great build that I can take a few pointers from. I really hope you will turn out more dwarf stuff soon. It makes me very happy. Quote
Kayne Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 Very cool SK! I agree with Beery though, that the roof doesn't feel quite natural with blend into the mountains, so it might be worth playing around with another transition at the top. Quote

Thanks Garmadon, I sometimes use only bley or dark bley in a build, but usually prefer the slight color variation of using both Nice one Soccerkid! lots of dwarven builds recently, Im going to have to act fast to an idea done before anyone else does it love it, keep em coming! I will definitely check your tutorial out, the roof here was the part I was least sure about how to do... I love how you avoided any arches on this build in favor of angles. Glad you like the drifts, I would try a cape on him, but I don't have an appropriately colored short one currently Very cool SK! Thanks Kayne, any ideas on what would be abetter solution for the roof? Quote
ZCerberus Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 I like the bushes and this is very much your style. You did a good job photoing the white as well. To me is still seems like the build should be taller... I guess it is probably already pretty tall for dwarves, but for the full sized, it seems a bit stout! Quote

Thanks Z, it does seem a bit stout, I was trying to make it seem very different than a normal gatehouse, might have taken it a bit far Quote
Kayne Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 I'm not really sure.....I wonder if having the stone walls blend into the mountain might work. We always hear about the great dwarven craftsmanship, so I'm sure they could do it. The problem would be translating it into Lego! Don't get me wrong, the roof doesn't look bad, it just seems like something else might be better. What if the mountain came out with a ledge over the top of the fortress, so that they could fit together to look as if the fortress were carved right into the mountain? Quote

soccerkid6 Posted May 24, 2013 Author Posted May 24, 2013 Updated with cliffs for the roof: Any opinions on the new version? Quote

Kayne Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 I do believe that I like that! Great job, I can't believe how quickly you added some changes! Quote
Gideon Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 I really like the added cliffs, makes the whole build look more like something they have put up to improve something which used to be a simple cave entrance :) Quote

Hyler Talliwell Posted May 25, 2013 Posted May 25, 2013 The updated version looks quite sturdy indeed. The windows here are really cool. Quote
