SmoothJazz Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 (edited) Once a regular Hero, Torvax has been horribly mutated by a brain parasite. Though his body is fully controlled by the brain parasite, he is still capable of thought, and he watches in horror as his body goes against the very group of heroes he used to belong to. Infernum Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Nice! Love the banana claws and the use of the Pyrox mask! I don't think the droid arm "fingers" on the unmutated side look right. I also think the large body armor piece looks too plain in comparison to the rest of the MOC. A more detailed one would have worked better. Nice work! Quote
Jetrax99 Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Honestly, can nobody make these look like they belong in the HF universe? Enough technic builds. Use the HF system for once! Quote

WARHEAD Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 (edited) While I do agree that technic builds can be very difficult to assemble, I have to point out that not all HF stuff doesn't necessarily have to be a "stick figure with armor plating" either. :v To each their own I guess. Anyway, great build man! The only gripe I have with it is how the mutated parts don't really look that organic and a bit jumbled to be honest, what with the angular rahkshi legs and stuff. Love the Pyrox mask on the leg though, flows nicely! Edited June 27, 2013 by WARHEAD Quote
Zachattacx Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 It can also be somewhat difficult to make something with entirely HF building system... But I see why Jetrax99 has beef with those sorta builds. Anyway great moc SmoothJazz! NPU of the Pyrox face,I also love the infected side of this moc! Though I wish the brain could attach to the back of the mask alas it's impossible. I guess it fits with the story that the brain is on the side. Great Moc!Good Luck! Quote
Aanchir Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 Honestly, can nobody make these look like they belong in the HF universe? Enough technic builds. Use the HF system for once! Ain't nothing wrong with a Technic build if you can manage a consistent aesthetic. I prefer to see the HF building system explored just because it hasn't been around for as long so there's still a lot of novelty when people achieve awesome things with it. But let's be fair: many Technic-intensive builds don't look any more like official BIONICLE sets than they look like official Hero Factory sets. We're just used to thinking of them as "BIONICLE style" because BIONICLE MOCists have been making MOCs this way for so long. The solidly-built Technic-based designs like this one almost have more in common with AFOL mecha models than with any official theme's typical building style. Anyway, this is a cool MOC, but I feel like the "hero side" needs some accent colors. Black and dark red is a somewhat boring color scheme without any brighter or metallic colors to spice it up. Additionally, I feel the legs and arms don't have a lot of stylistic consistency with the torso. Pretty much every armor piece on this guy has its own unique texture, and they sort of compete for my attention. There isn't any particular motif that really defines this MOC. I like the mutated arm, though, as well as the claws growing out of his back. Attaching the brain to the side of his head also helps balance things out while keeping a visually-interesting asymmetric design. Quote
Dorek Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 Yeah, I'm unfortunately in the camp that doesn't get a Hero Factory feel from this guy. As a regular MoC, it's good. The mutated side, especially, is neat. Yellow is definitely an interesting color, but it pairs well with the Metru red. The leg in particular has some very cool construction going on, and the tentacle actually works. The torso is quite blocky, and though it incorporates the Hero chest fairly well (eliminating the general wiggle room associated with cladding) it's a bit too stuffed with Technic. The arms and legs also don't seem super poseable, at least on the Hero side. Vakama's mask would work ordinarily, but as I say, not entirely synchronous with Hero Factory themes. Overall, it's a decent MoC, but it doesn't quite fit the aesthetic, especially given the contest theme. Quote
Kadabra Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 Would you rather have a simple stick figure with armor plating? Technic builds actually require considerably more time and energy than most HF builds. Hero Factory builds can easily be more complex and unique than Technic ones just because of all the different ways you can use the same set of simple, non-specialize pieces. Quote
DraikNova Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 I'm on the HF side of this debate. It's pretty easy to make a well-armored HF figure; you just need to spend some time looking for parts that mesh together well. If you find them, you can armor MOCs far better, in a more organic way. And that's exactly this MOC's problem; it needs to look more like an organic creature to fit with the Brain Slug's aesthetic. Quote
Chro Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 Hero Factory builds can easily be more complex and unique than Technic ones just because of all the different ways you can use the same set of simple, non-specialize pieces. That's exactly the point of Technic builds, though... XDAnd to be clear, we're referring to structural complexity, not... how would I phrase this... conceptual complexity? (I don't know.) Quote
lockdownTF Posted July 2, 2013 Posted July 2, 2013 Looks cool but I'm not overly keen on the brain parasite just sticking out the side of his head. Quote
