SkaForHire Posted July 1, 2013 Posted July 1, 2013 Alright, that’s it… tour is over. I told you all to sit down and be quiet so the Mecaliians didn’t see us. Now all of their natives are on the shores just eying our tour boat. DSC_2981 by skaforhire, on Flickr Devilislandmapcard by skaforhire, on Flickr Our last stop is commonly called Devil’s Island by Kaliphlin trading companies – they are the only people foolish enough to step foot on this island. For centuries the inhabitants have sent adventurers home in a box -- if they were not eaten. Not much is known about these people or their culture, we can only assume the giant statues are meant to ward off passing tourists. Ships entering the inland sea hug the opposite shore, as this island is considered bad luck by sailors. Devilsislandpostcard by skaforhire, on Flickr However, we can take a look at the island’s beautiful volcanic beaches and its strange monuments from our boat, which makes this stop a favorite of painters who have a fear of going ashore. Maxim I Posted July 1, 2013 Posted July 1, 2013 "Please keep your hands and feet inside the boat at all times, and don’t feed the natives!" => hahahahaha Beautifull black coastline!!! And also an excellent job on creating waves! Quote
Legofin2012 Posted July 1, 2013 Posted July 1, 2013 It's over, already? There was loads of great MOC's, and this one is really nice! Quote
Gideon Posted July 1, 2013 Posted July 1, 2013 It really looks like there is volcanic sand underneath that vegetation Really nice to see all those native CMFs put to good use! Quote
Erynlasgalen Posted July 1, 2013 Posted July 1, 2013 I love how this turned out, it looks great. The vegetation is wild, and goes nicely with the black cliffs. The statue/totem is my favorite part, I really like how it dominates the landscape while fitting perfectly in. Quote
TheLegoDr Posted July 1, 2013 Posted July 1, 2013 The island looks great. I love the statue and the figure placement. I wonder if it wouldn't have worked better to have a tourist on the spit instead of the pig? Keep up the great work! Quote
SkaForHire Posted July 1, 2013 Author Posted July 1, 2013 Nice use of black in the landscaping and the foliage is excellent Creepy statue as well Thanks! He did come out pretty good I thought. I didn't post the picture, because I have not taken a nighttime picture yet, but I put a light brick in the back that makes his skull holes glow... in a few days hopefully I get time to set up the tripod and do a dark picture to show you all. "Please keep your hands and feet inside the boat at all times, and don’t feed the natives!" => hahahahaha Beautifull black coastline!!! And also an excellent job on creating waves! Thanks! I was going to have a tourist go to shore, but decided that I should avoid killing our paying guests. It's over, already? There was loads of great MOC's, and this one is really nice! Maybe we can get a second tour going later on down the road... I think all of us did 2 - 7 mocs, and need a little break. Although there were a lot more ideas on the board when we finished. It really looks like there is volcanic sand underneath that vegetation Really nice to see all those native CMFs put to good use! I had so many of them, and my historic vignette of the Battle of Fallen Timbers is taking too long, so my Native Americans had to get some action. Love that statue! I love how this turned out, it looks great. The vegetation is wild, and goes nicely with the black cliffs. The statue/totem is my favorite part, I really like how it dominates the landscape while fitting perfectly in. Thanks! It is funny that the statue almost didn't make it on the MOC at first. The island looks great. I love the statue and the figure placement. I wonder if it wouldn't have worked better to have a tourist on the spit instead of the pig? Keep up the great work! That would have been pretty funny, and the thought crossed my mind, but I thought I would leave the audience out of my MOCs, at least on this tour. Quote
Kayne Posted July 2, 2013 Posted July 2, 2013 I'm glad the statue did make the MOC, because it adds a ton of character into it Quote
Kai NRG Posted July 2, 2013 Posted July 2, 2013 Very nice statue, I like the action and good work with the shape of the bay! Quote
Garmadon Posted July 2, 2013 Posted July 2, 2013 Very nice statue there, all the palm trees and greenery look good too I must say, though, the cut out version (the one on the postcard) looks much better then the one with the sheet, so my advise would be to always cut it out and put a plain white background from the computer on it. Great build Quote
de Gothia Posted July 3, 2013 Posted July 3, 2013 Mmm, those black rocks are looking so good! Great idea with all the islanders! Love that pig detail! Quote
Mike S Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 This turned out great! Love the black rocks contrasted by the bluewater and green jungle growth. The statue itself looks quite at home as well! Quote
Captain BeerBeard Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 I love the water effect. The statue is one of the best I've seen in an islander setting. Very cool build. Quote
Captain Settle Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 Great landscaping and foliage Ska! That statue is amazing, and very creepy. Quote
Ecclesiastes Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 I love the water effect. The statue is one of the best I've seen in an islander setting. Very cool build. Agreed, the statue is indeed perfect in this setting! Quote
