eurotrash Posted July 6, 2013 Posted July 6, 2013 My town is definitely going down-hill. I've got Bars and Pubs and a Brewery and they're all a bit seedy and run-down. So when I decided to build something with a car-theme I knew it wasn't going to be an antiseptic showroom stuffed full of expensive cars. What my town needed was a Repair Shop where for a cheap price the unqualified mechanics will do their best to get you back on the road. It's based very loosely on a real building here in Missouri that burnt down in mysterious circumstances a couple of years ago. Who knows maybe with this MOC I've solved the mystery. There's a tumble-down old fence and a junk yard dog. The facade of the main building is crumbling and there's discolored brickwork all over the place. Inside there's a finger operated car lift, a red-swing door (courtesy of the Apple Tree House), and shelves full of cans and tools. If I had an expensive, Italian looking sports car I wouldn't be taking it here. The adjacent lot is full of spare parts scattered across the broken concrete, some wheel hubs, some fenders and a Snap-on tool box. But it does have an interior complete with Coffee Machine, Toilet and Sink - it's a bit grubby in there... The mechanics appear to be swapping out a perfectly good Blue door for a junky Yellow one - and I'm concerned about the number of spare parts they've got left.... Here's a shot from the side, but I think they should be paying more attention to the rear of the building... ...where someone has carelessly discarded a cigarette into a trash-can full of oily rags. This isn't going to end well! I hope you enjoyed it! Comments and criticisms and suggestions are most welcome. Quote
Blakstone Posted July 6, 2013 Posted July 6, 2013 Great MOC. I would say it was lovely but you made it the perfect run down auto repair shop. That gives this build more character. My favorite part is the junky lot. Quote
lightningtiger Posted July 6, 2013 Posted July 6, 2013 Looks great 'eurotrash', I like the dumpster and tool chest designs.......though it's not very movable is it......like the door doesn't open and hoist does work neither.....but it still looks good. Brick On 'eurotrash' ! Quote
eurotrash Posted July 6, 2013 Author Posted July 6, 2013 ...the door doesn't open and hoist does work neither. Maybe I should have included additional pictures! Here's the rear swing door and the Car lift/Hoist is four vertical slotted 1 x 2 x 5 with groove that holds the Modified 2 x 2 with Wheel Holder snuggly. It moves up and down quite easily and stays put in any position. Quote
lightningtiger Posted July 6, 2013 Posted July 6, 2013 Ah, now see extra pictures do help.....very nice....reminds me of someone else's garage a few months back ! Now a suggestion on the minifig.....it might look better if you have the torso and legs from the Fonzie looklike collecable minifig motor mechanic from last year and with a cap on would look real old school gas station mechanic for sure. LEGO Guy Bri Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 Love the look of the old shop! Something not done very often. Looks like numerous repair shops around my town. That car lift was a great idea, as well. I never would have thought to do that! I'm glad it is able to hold up a vehicle Quote
Kristel Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 This is great! I think you've got the details for a dodgy repair shop nailed. There some really nice details, especially the toolbox and the dumpster. ... a finger operated car lift ... LOL! Quote
timmyc1983 Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 This is a fantastic MOC. My favourtie bits are the lot with all the bits and pieces strewn all over the place, and the fence, it gives the whole thing that perfect run down look you're going for! And I agree with the other, the tool box is a great touch and well designed! Great work and happy building Quote
Phazon Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 This looks great, especially the junkjard is great, with all the spare parts and the toolbox. Well done! Quote
Only Sinner Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 Funny, I've worked at places like this before. The Snap-on tool box is almost too nice to be left outside. The oily rag bin definately belongs out there, though! I really like the floppy fence and the grass poking up through the concrete. Nice detail. Quote
htbomb Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 If LEGO sold this I'd buy it! Amazing attention to detail with a touch of humor. Love it. Quote
Htrag Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 Great story! I love the tumbledown look, and the broken concrete. Such realism! Quote
Aussie BJ Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 Just perfect in every way. Some great attention to detail thanks for sharing! Quote
Laservampire Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 (edited) Amazing job, love the details. I'd love to see the yard extended with some half-stripped cars up on bricks! Lego Illegal chop-shop, haha. Edited July 8, 2013 by Laservampire Quote
Bricktrain Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 Nice work. How hard is it to get the car through the door onto the hoist? Quote
eurotrash Posted July 8, 2013 Author Posted July 8, 2013 Nice work. How hard is it to get the car through the door onto the hoist? The vehicle you see on the hoist fits through the swing door and up onto the ramp, but it does have to leap over the (2432) Tile, Modified 1 x 2 with Handle at the ends of the Hoist. In real life I think the turning radius of the vehicle would prevent it from making the turn from the door-way to the hoist, but this MOC uses Lego Physics and normal rules don't apply! Thanks for all the comments! I had so much fun building this MOC. Quote
paostmo Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 Lovely. It really looks like something out of an old main street ghost town. Those windows are great! Quote
ManInATopHat Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 Very nice MOC, I really like how you managed to make it look run down. Quote

Thanks for all the comments! I had so much fun building this MOC. I like lego physics, it works for all sorts of things. Have you thought about making ramps at the front of the hoist instead of the tiles with handles, might not be as much fun as leapfrogging over the handles though. Quote
dvsntt Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 That is so cool, I love the enhancements that make it look "alive". Quote
ER0L Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Great MOC, I especially like the run down look of it. Quote
