New City wheel

I was looking through the new LEGO catalog and looking at the Cargo theme spread I noticed this guy:

I like it a lot, because it' the same size as the standard City wheel, but has a much sleeker look to it and can be attached in two different ways, as it appears. Also, the tires are sportier compared to the almost off-road older ones, which is good as we can all agree that the classic wheel sometimes looks out of place, especially on sportier vehicles. Actually, here's the comparison of the old wheel and the new wheel used on the sportcar from the High-speed pursuit set:

So what do you think? I like it a lot and I look forward to more sets using it

I do like the new wheel much better, although I do not particularly like the city theme , I like medieval themes much better. But I am happy that you are happy with this new wheel. As said before, it gives the care a more sportive look, instead of off-road.

Accidentally used this in a Digital Build the other day, and then realized it wasn't widely available when I couldn't find it on Bricklink to see what colors it came in. It looks really neat, though. Can't wait to see what the real thing looks like.

I do hope they come in black, though.

Some further searching indicates the best way to get these is to buy the 10663 bucket which contains 8 sets of wheels and tyres (and a bunch of other interesting looking parts besides)

Also interesting is that both models to feature these so far have used them as truck wheels and not used their "sportier" side seen in the LDD images above. So far it comes only in light bley but I am hoping it shows up in more colors soon (black for one would be very nice to have as would silver)

I agree with jonwil, that bucket is a much better deal - 8 new wheels and a ton of basic bricks, and the combination is quite worth the money

It looks a little bit too wide and the diameter is, on the contrary, too small, but it's just my guess

The LDD example uses different pin/axle types. I don't see this working unless the wheel hub is also compatible with technic pins..

Edit: Just checked, and it does use the same pin connector! Finally we can have some diversity when it comes to wheels of that size!

It's refreshing to see a new wheel in this size, from now on i hope Lego won't use the same wheel for a truck and a sports car.

You are right, the connector on the wheel is different from the one in your picture, but LEGO introduced a variation of this wheel in 1999, if I'm not mistaken, and the smaller wheels that use slick tires were introduced two years later (the smallest of the LEGO wheels has always had a connector of this type). In 2002 there were a couple of small pull-back motor cars in the Racers line-up, and a different connector turned out to be pretty handy, as it allowed the motor to actually spin the wheels. TLG have been using these updated wheels ever since for the sake of backwards compatibility, I guess. I also think that is exactly why the new wheels use this cross-shaped connector too - backwards compatibility is a very nice thing, and they would look really nice on those Racer sets. This piece is already available in some countries in this set. Not in the U.S. though. That set is a little bit less than desirable than AFOLs perhaps because it uses some rather specialized 4x10 chassis pieces, but it seems like it'd be a very efficient way to accumulate those as well as other useful pieces like 2x2 jumper plates or various Dark Azur pieces.

Awesome new wheels!

They look very close to VMR V710s!
