WesternOutlaw Posted April 5, 2007 Posted April 5, 2007 For the WW fans out there, I recently came across these Deadwood inpired MOCs: Deadwood I'm not real fond of the saloon/hotel, but the general store is pretty nice as well as the figs: The interior detailing is pretty nice as well. Quote
Sir Dillon Posted April 5, 2007 Posted April 5, 2007 Does the saloon actually look like that in the show? It seems rather odd to me. Quote
Asuka Posted April 5, 2007 Posted April 5, 2007 Yep, that general store is nice.... with a cool touch of that old Alaska gold rush feeling. :-) Quote
Hobbes Posted April 5, 2007 Posted April 5, 2007 I like that store, too, although it somehow has a bit of a Viking cabin touch to me... Quote
Athos Posted April 5, 2007 Posted April 5, 2007 The saloon is just too red for my taste. I think its the combination of red and brown. The general store, however, looks very good, Steve Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted April 5, 2007 Governor Posted April 5, 2007 I've never seen Deadwood before so I don't know how accurate these MOCs are. If anyone who is familiar with this wonderful TV Show could post some compartive photogenic images that would be very helpful indeed. Quote
Hellingly Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 I'm a Deadwood fan, those are nice models but not that much like the real sets. A tour of the Deadwood set can be found at http://www.hbo.com/deadwood/behind/sets_an...stumes/setTour/ Click on 'Gem Saloon' and 'Star & Bullock Hardware' to see what the real sets look like. Quote
Eurobricks Emperor Bonaparte Posted April 11, 2007 Eurobricks Emperor Posted April 11, 2007 I never watched the Deadwood series, but that general story is a good looking MOC. Quote
Capn Frank Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 The outhouse next to the general store is my favorite :-D Not too many bathrooms in lego sets and MOCs :-) P Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted April 12, 2007 Author Posted April 12, 2007 As many of you are aware, I'm a big Western fan; but after renting Deadwood which was a made for HBO/Cable mini-series, I was very disappointed. After watching the film for just a 1/2 hour or so, the language was F this and F that, I'm going to kill the M..F..., etc. It was truly a big distraction to the storyline which may have been good or bad. I didn't watch much, and really couldn't get into the film. It's been a long time since I've seen a really good western in the movies (but that's a completely different topic). As far as the MOC, I really like the general store. Quote

I didn't watch much, and really couldn't get into the film.i have never watched the deadwood series... so thanks for the enlightenment, B... im with you, i don't think that strong content is necessary for a good show. though, im not sure the language would bother me as much.you kinda have to take the format into account... i mean, the show was made for HBO, which means it was targeted for an HBO audience... means there is either going to be questionable/strong material. so i guess the language was expected. a cable network western is probably what we are looking for... or maybe a basic television western :-D -------------------------------------------------- as for the MOCs, i wonder why the saloon was made so tall ??? it doesn't seem to be so in on the website linked above (which i pretty cool, BTW... i love maps ;-) ). maybe the builder was looking to build an impressive/towering structure ??? - BrickMiner Quote
Hellingly Posted April 20, 2007 Posted April 20, 2007 In Deadwood they were originally going to use profanity from the time, but it was thought they would sound too ridiculous and so put in the modern equivellent, hence the heavy use of 'f' and 'c' words. However once you get into the plot, you do tend to forget about the language. Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted April 20, 2007 Author Posted April 20, 2007 I may blame the language, but I really couldn't get into it. The overall film and characters just didn't keep my interest long. I have heard good things about it, but I didn't care much for it. I'd rather watch an old Spaghetti Western with Clint Eastwood that I've seen a hundred times, and I'd me much more happy. Quote
