jamesster Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 (edited) Hey guys. As I'm sure we all know by now, the next series of LEGO Minifigures is The LEGO Movie themed, and after that comes The Simpsons (if I'm wrong on that please correct me). As far as I know it's not really confirmed just how the "14th" series will be named (maybe they'll just pick the main series up again with 12? Who knows), but what we do know is that it's been designed in partnership with Funcom, the developers of the new MMO LEGO Minifigures Online. Additionally, each world in the game (pirates world, space world, medieval world, mythology world, and some other cool but currently unannounced worlds I found in the game's beta files) has a "hero" character. Funcom has stated that the MMO series of minifigures will include physical versions of these hero characters: Today, the website for LEGO Minifigures Online got a big update, and the first world was revealed to the public: the pirates world, and the main character it features; Captain Pete. http://www.playminif...com/en/node/155 Edit: Again, I'm not sure just how much I can safely say about the closed beta, but the main reason for me thinking this guy is the "hero" for the pirates world (besides his central role in the world's story and literal central role on the website image) is that there's literally no other options that would even slightly make sense; as you can see in the and screenshots on the website, the rest of the world and its characters are 2009 pirates minifigures and variations on series 11 islanders. The only other option would be for LEGO to create a second "hero" character we haven't seen yet, and use him/her in the new series - but considering the series will have 16 slots to fill, and Captain Pete is being featured quite a bit so far, I can't imagine they won't include him. Then again... We were all so certain that Benny the spaceman would obviously be in The LEGO Movie series... So take this with a grain of salt I suppose; it seems to be a very obvious choice from everything we know so far, but LEGO's surprised us before. Edited December 18, 2013 by jamesster Quote
TheLegoDr Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 Interesting to see a POTC torso for a non licensed figure.. Quote
jamesster Posted December 18, 2013 Author Posted December 18, 2013 (edited) Interesting to see a POTC torso for a non licensed figure.. I noticed that too, but seeing as the image of him here on the website doesn't match his in-game appearance (I'd show a screenshot for comparison but I don't want to be kicked out of the beta), I'm guessing they simply haven't finalized his actual design yet. Again, I'm not sure just how much I can safely say about the closed beta, but the main reason for me thinking this guy is the "hero" for the pirates world (besides his central role in the world's story and literal central role on the website image) is that there's literally no other options that would even slightly make sense; as you can see in the and screenshots on the website, the rest of the world and its characters are 2009 pirates minifigures and variations on series 11 islanders. The only other option would be for LEGO to create a second "hero" character we haven't seen yet, and use him/her in the new series - but considering the series will have 16 slots to fill, and Captain Pete is being featured quite a bit so far, I can't imagine they won't include him. Regardless, Captain Pete or no, we do know for sure that the series will contain at least one minifigure each from pirates, castle, space, and mythology. Count on that. Edit - OP updated with a link to the video where some Funcom developers talk about this new minifigures series. Edited December 18, 2013 by jamesster Quote
Piranha Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 Regardless, Captain Pete or no, we do know for sure that the series will contain at least one minifigure each from pirates, castle, space, and mythology. Count on that. That is what will make Series '14' so exciting. There is also one more world, not announced but teased in the screenshots and trailers, what appears to be a 'Fairytale' world. Captain Pete seems very likely since we know LEGO likes to give us Captain's, and hero would be synonymous with Captain. Although, there is also a good chance he is just an NPC representative for Pirate World, much like Castle world will have a King and Mythology world has Zeus. Quote
Ardelon Posted December 22, 2013 Posted December 22, 2013 I hope Captain Pete won't be one of the collectable minifigs, at least not as he is seen in the image. He would bring no new parts or prints, except for the hat, which isn't very attractive with the childish skull print, IMO. The Barbossa torso would be nice to have, but plenty of people already have it, so it doesn't seem like a smart choice. The only way to make the fig worthwhile would be to give it a really neat accessory... Quote
Jared Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 If he is, my list of wanted figures from this series just dropped by one... Quote

Seeing as the collectible minifigures have always featured exclusive printing, I'd say it's safe to assume that if Captain Pete ends up being in the series he won't appear exactly as he does now. As mentioned earlier, the game is still in beta and the character designs/names don't seem to be final yet - Pete's in-game appearance is different from his appearance on the website, Captain Blackheart was renamed to Captain Dreadleg, etc (the website is actually a bit inconsistent there, calling him Blackheart in some places and Dreadleg in others). Uh, since you're not sure, why not give this thread a vague name in order to avoid suspicions? I did, the "14" is in quotation marks. What else do you suggest we call it until we know for sure? Quote
