Sariel Posted December 28, 2013 Posted December 28, 2013 Just a rough idea based on the "program card" concept from the 8888 Technic Idea Book: Photos & reading: http://sariel.pl/2013/12/programmable-drummer/ Quote
legolijntje Posted December 28, 2013 Posted December 28, 2013 That's a cool idea. I have the 8888 Idea Book, and I always wanted to do something with the technique used in that crane, but never had any good idea. This is a very nice one. Are you planning to make a version with non-lego drums, just for the sake of having a programmable drummer? Quote
Sariel Posted December 28, 2013 Author Posted December 28, 2013 That's tempting, but I don't have any lying around, and I prefer bass anyway. Quote
Karimix Posted December 28, 2013 Posted December 28, 2013 Ha! That put smile on my face, thanks. Quote
Chilly Posted December 28, 2013 Posted December 28, 2013 Love it. Sounds like a good idea for the next competition..... What can you build using the program card concept? Quote
Doc_Brown Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 Fantastic innovation and exploration of the card reader! Nicely done. Love it. Sounds like a good idea for the next competition..... What can you build using the program card concept? I 2nd that! Quote
ms09 Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 Very funny idea! Maybe you can realize a mindstorms (nxt or ev3) version with light sensors which plays music. Quote
LEGO Train 12 Volts Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 Very cool! I like the head movement: this robot looks sympathetic! Quote
Jim Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 Sounds like a good idea for the next competition..... What can you build using the program card concept? True that! I will put the idea on the short list Nice build Sariel! Programming cards are very cool. Quote
Rishab N Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 Very cool! I wonder if you could use programming cards for vehicles? Quote
Gee Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 That's neat! Great to see something different! Quote
majorna Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 Yes! More program card builds! I made a little proof of principle "robot" utilizing this concept and the pull-back motor and posted it a couple months ago somewhere on this forum... Quote
skppo Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 I've been experimenting with these program card type things and I've thought about using a punch card like system. Instead of holes I tried a "bumpy" plate that would be read by small fingers that then use a gearbox to run motors. The problem is getting the fingers run smoothly over the edges of the bumps though. In a drummer it would be cool if you could loop it somehow. Quote
majorna Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 In 8888 looping is accomplished on a plotter model by placing the rack gears perpendicularly on 1x4 plates placed on 3 wide treads, looped around a couple larger gears. I have briefly experimented with this solution and found it rather fragile. Quote
