This is a general topic for everyone to ask for help making a certain assembly in LDD.

We have a topic like this for finding parts in LDD, so a topic for this would be useful too.

[Hopefully, I can fill this first post with tips and tricks I can find in the forum in the next days/weeks.]

I'm trying to do a technic model and I want to use universal joints ... any advice for rotating these and connecting it all together ... I'm having a pain lining it up and sometimes when I try to adjust the rotation on the UJ it rotates the rest of the assembly and not the UJ

I have an input shaft and then want to go across 3, down 1 and ideally fit it into a gap 12 long ... the 3 across and 1 down are critical ... 12 long could be adjusted

Rotating and hinging things in a large model can be a right bugger... one solution would be to use the "multiple selction tool" to select the bricks around where your shaft is supposed to go, then use the "clone tool" to make a copy alongside the model, where you can build without invoking some of LDD's unusual behaviour. Then it's just a case of placing the completed shaft where it needs to go!

Thanks i tried this but cant get the shafts to line up! I even used a long output shaft and moved the output mounting point a considerable distance but it still wouldn't align. It got really close a few times though.

Hello,

Does anyone know a trick to put link threads on a gear ?

I have seen that on 10227 LDD file someone achieved a great circle with thread links, but I do not succeed to do the same.

I try to put links in a similar position to what we can see on 8047, 10144, 8288 (with 16t gear).

Sometimes when things don't quite line up properly, it is possible to make things fit by entering "floating point" values in the textboxes under the hinge tool;

e.g. "18.25" or "-156.35"

This requires much patience and experimentation, but works great in most cases. If it does not, another perspective can find alternative solutions: if you could post a .LXF of the file you are working on, with an annotated image / detailed description of the function you would like to achieve, I (or someone more savvy) may be able to offer some ideas.

LDD follows the LEGO legal principles, i.e. it doesn't allow you to put bricks together that would ruin them over time (allthough there are a few exceptions). This is both the strength and weakness of the tool (depending on your personal taste). If you want more flexibility and put bricks together any way you want, then I recommend the Ldraw ecosystem.

For the above example, you can however most likely solve it with some scaffolding - but it's too late on the friday evening for me now to explain now :tongue: - maybe someone else can help out.

Although you won't get those parts connecting to each other (for reasons Superkalle pointed out), scaffolding might somewhat circumvent that limitation: Put both bricks onto the same brick and let them slide together. For example, using a light sword blade 30374 allows you to put those pieces quite close together.

Yes can anyone help me in attaching an armor piece. I've designed a new torso build for Furno XL. But I've run into a snag. I can get one piece of armor to attach on the right side but not on the left.

By the way, do you know if there is a way to change the length of the flexibles ?

@Courleciel. All you need is flex tool only, please try to flex the lxfml models below. (brickshelf.com down)

Edit lxfml can scale parts but you have to use LDD v4.2.5 or older, because the scale bug/trick was fixed in new version.

Hello

I'm hoping one of the gifted folk out there can help me with the rear of this amazing Shelby Cobra (link below) I've been asked to build for my cousin who's restoring the genuine article.

For the life of me I can't get my head round the techniques used. I've tried for around 3 months using LDD but with very unsatisfactory results. I've asked the builder if he has a set of instructions but he hasn't and won't be making any but has given me his blessing to try building it.

Due to my disability, and the fact that all my spare parts are Technic, physically experimenting with parts is difficult. I can build Lego by mouth but taking it apart the same way ranges from very difficult to nigh on impossible!

I've done the mid body, engine, top rear and little of the front (with the same problem as I'm having with the rear but am hoping to use lessons learnt from any help received to complete it) but I'm hoping that someone can help me by either LDD/LDRAW building the rear from the wheelarch back and up to 'boot catch' level or sending clear instructions using LDD/LDRAW of the techniques needed/used.

Any and all help would be very,very gratefully received.

Hi, I´m building a custom train engine in LDD, and I can´t get the small train wheel to fit onto the cross axle, ´cause the wheel follows the symmetry of the knobs, and not the holes in the technic bricks. Seems like a bug, because the wheel isn´t supposed to fit onto anything else than some sort of cross axle.

Any help appreciated.

Edit: K, found a "Dodo" reference to LDD, so no bug fixes since jan. -16... bummer, I just started liking the program. LDraw seems to be the next step, will look into it.

I need the Ms. Marvel torso with long flexing arms (below), but it's neither in LDD's nor in Mecabricks's inventory.

I tried exporting a bent flex tube from LDD to Mecabricks (where I'd put it in an empty torso and add the hands), but it disappeared.

Any suggestions on how to make this work?
