MikeyB Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 On their way to join the fight in Nocturnus against the Black Spire, small units of Avalonians were ambushed along the dusty path by remnants of the Hand of Corruption. But two soldiers, Jacen and Volnen survived to gallantly fight side by side against the overwhelming numbers. Backed against the edge of a cliff, a lone tree grew out of the overhang. Here the two made their heroic stand. Jacen was one of the most skilled archers in the land. Known for his speed and accuracy he could fire three times the arrows of a normal archer with deadly precision. Volnen was known for his prowess with the longs sword and great shield. The enemy feeling confident in their superior numbers rushed the two looking to finishes them off quickly. But Volnen stanchly defended the base of the tree as his foe’s bodies piled up at his feet. Jacen killed many with his bow while perched in the tree. Eventually they vanquished the enemy, and word spread of Jacen and Volnen deeds, creating a new pair of Heroes in the fight against the Black Spire. Quote
mrcp6d Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 There's a nice sense of action in this build with the oncoming horde and the lean of the tree. I wish the rest of the base looked as organic as the rocks under the tree, though it looks like time caught up with you judging by your post in the Avalonian thread. Quote

Combine that with my daughter keeps loaning out the camera I like to use to her best friend and I had to use a little point and shoot digital and the fact I was concerned about the 16 x 16 limit and the reasonable overhang!( tree limbs) the base of my builds is something I want to work on. it always seems to be an afterthought Edited January 17, 2014 by MikeyB Quote
Gunman Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 good idea about fighting at the tree side:) well executed ! Quote
Lord Vladivus Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 That's a cool tree- the scene reminds me of something out of a movie. Great posing! Quote
soccerkid6 Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 Great leaning effect for the tree and I like the story and fig-posing. It looks to me like Jacen and Volnen could hold out for quite a while longer Quote

MikeyB Posted January 29, 2014 Author Posted January 29, 2014 thanks for all the positive feedback. I wish I hadn't wait so long to finish this build I always seem to do that for challenges and was glad I got at least one category in. When GoH started up, I told myself I wanted to enter ever major challenge and I got in just under the wire. Glad so many liked the roots, I wanted to show the tree was growing into the cliff edge Quote
