Milan Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 (edited) This is the first model created in my new LEGO room! I am fascinated with Soviet/Russian trucks from 1940 onwards. In the past, I built few ZIL/ZIS trucks but this had to be something special. This is a project in three parts: First I built this model, which is manual, and I will build two more, which will be motorized, and will come with instructions. I will took the base-chassis and cabin and make the rest different. In this case, it is the crane, In next two...cargo and halftrack! ZIS 5on wikipedia This is the real model: LEGO MODEL: This is 1:11 Scale model, made very accurately from official ZIS blueprints. Scale was determined with the tires. I use big 24x43 tires, and scale down the rest of the model accordingly. I took me about two weeks just to make rough measurements and make the rough model in MLCAD. The real truck is a nightmare regarding angles...they are everywhere. The cabin has angles in three planes. Fenders are rounded, boom is sloped and angled, doors and angled...and at top of that, the whole cabin is built in uneven number of studs in width and has a good portion built in SNOT. The color has to be red, of course. This version is manual. The other two will be motorized and sounded. Functions: Ackerman steering geometry with working steering wheel in the cabin and HOG Realistic working leaf spring suspension Working ultra detailed and realistic engine-connects to the gearbox and drivetrain, and soft hose to the chromed exhaust! Working 4 speed gearbox, with gearstick in the cabin Working crane- lifting, luffing and slew Working outriggers Openable doors on truck and crane Openable hood and side panels to reveal engine Transparent clear pieces on all doors to simulate glass. This truck is my personal favorite so far. It is supreme to all my others trucks regarding look, sturdiness and functions. I hope you like it, too. Please take a look at this short video: http://youtu.be/rW-p4CQp78Q More pictures at links in my signatures! Today I am start modeling the second one- Cargo version, with same chassis and cabin, just motorized and sounded! Edited February 13, 2014 by Milan Quote
skriblez Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 At first i didn't think it was a Lego Moc! Well done making it look brilliant! Quote
Balrog Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 Well done. The accurateness is pretty impressive. Took me a moment to realize that the red model right under the brown model is made of Lego. In fact, I only realized it by looking at the glass windows. After that is was obvious of course, but I think such a statement testifies your skill with scale models. Quote
aol000xw Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 It happened to me too, Amazing model. Quote
Alasdair Ryan Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 (edited) Lovely truck, how did you make the angled boom? Edited February 11, 2014 by Alasdair Ryan Quote
unimog123 Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 Unbelievable! How long did it take to create such a masterpiece? Quote
Rishab N Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 Wow amazing work! It looks exactly like the real vehicle! Quote
Brick_Sticker Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 Very well done, the bodywork is fantastic. Excellent number of features too! Brick_Sticker Quote
Milan Posted February 12, 2014 Author Posted February 12, 2014 Thanks guys, for nice comments! Lovely truck, how did you make the angled boom? I used that brick built adapted which is between two sections of the boom. I used PDF, scale ti to correct size, and put wing pieces on screen until I got the right angle. Later I strengthen it, tiled it and smooth it :) Unbelievable! How long did it take to create such a masterpiece? 2 weeks to design it on computer, and two months to build it...trial and error. Waiting for few small BL orders included. Quote
jorgeopesi Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 Amazing old truck Milan, I think it is equipment so you should go to... . Quote
darsedz Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 very interesting and oryginal design... I love a trucks did you try to build it without bricks in thouse windows or use biger transparent bricks for this purpose? Quote
Milan Posted February 13, 2014 Author Posted February 13, 2014 did you try to build it without bricks in thouse windows or use biger transparent bricks for this purpose? Yes, tried to leave windows empty, it looks good, but i wanted for this moc to stand out a little bit. Use of bigger transparent pieces are possible for the truck, but in order to preserve correct width of the cabin and windows itself, plates were used. On the crane, however, bigger pieces are impossible due to sloped cabin. Besides, i think transparent plates looks much better, they are more uniformed. Thanks for feedback! Quote
straybirdsnest Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 (edited) What a nice truck! I read this thread again, the truck in the vedio looks so beautiful. ps: Thanks for your welcome, Milan. I just received my 42008 this monring. I find it hard to design something with Lego. When you put peices up to, it may be different from what you imaged.Sorry for my English. I didn't see "in my new room" at first, so I misunderstood that. Also thank you, skppo. Edited February 18, 2014 by straybirdsnest Quote
skppo Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 Nice job! I like that you went for the windows instead of the usual holes. It makes it look less legoy somehow. Super smooth looks and realism all around. Hard to believe that it is your first MOC. First in his new room that is. Quote
piterx Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 wow! that looks amazing man! i love the way you integrated studless and studded parts :) Quote
Energo Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 OMG! Amazing! Looks like a real one) Moreover, u've chosen such an unusual vehicle for making a copy, I don't remember that I've ever seen such big and well-designed MOCs connected with old soviet autoindustry. Quote
Doc_Brown Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 I'm really sorry I missed this! What a fantastic and original MOC! Great job. Quote
