kreimkoek Posted February 23, 2014 Posted February 23, 2014 (edited) Oh hullo there little LEGO hobbits! Here is my version of Dol Guldur. I tried to replicate some scenes of the Hobbit movies and some extra stuff. Dol Guldur the ruined fortress where many dark things hide and regain strength. Front view of Dol Guldur. You can see two Gandalf's in this picture. The front entrance. Is Gandalf scared of something? Radagast warns Gandalf of dark sorcery in Mirkwood. So Gandalf and Radagast set out to Dol Guldur to search for this so called Necromancer Surprise attack by the Witch King with the Morgul blade. The Necromancer is watching and creeping. Feeding and breeding the wargs for the upcoming war. Sharpening the swords for the Battle of Five Armies. Backside view of Dol Guldur. Back of Azog. Bird's eye view. You can see Gandalf trying to escape from Azog and his Gundabad bodyguards. Gandalf doing his best to fight. Bridge side view. Close-up of ruined tower and Gandalf hanging in his cage :( Tower by moonlight. Gandalf is pissed. Oops Gandalf is breaking out of his cage while Azog is summoning the Gundabad orcs. Orcs getting ready. More orcs. Many torturings have taken place in the old fortress. Thorin's father Thrain was last seen by Gandalf in Dol Guldur... Spiders and skulls. Orc: don't put that flash in my face dirty human! A skeleton... but it is not Thrain. Prison of Thrain and what is left of him. What used to be a gate. The Necromancer (or Sauron) has turned Gandalf in a kittykat with his dark magic! Edited March 9, 2014 by kreimkoek Quote
puzzles Posted February 23, 2014 Posted February 23, 2014 that's quite the story! :p I really like your dol guldur. All your details and colours are great. And the front entrance is really cool. Quote
Xcod119 Posted February 23, 2014 Posted February 23, 2014 Very Nice Work there 'Kreimkoek'! Love the level of detail and the story! I can't wait to see another piece of work! Quote
Hammerhand Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 All of the pictures say "the image is currently unavailable"?... Quote

All of the pictures say "the image is currently unavailable"?... Indeed the pictures don't work anymore... Flickr now says i haven't uploaded anything yet. I don't even? What?! They were working when i put up this thread... First Brickshelf and now Flickr making problems. I will have a look at it tonight and reupload, but first a working day :) Quote
LegoPanda Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 its amazing, it has lots of details Quote
Blazej_Holen Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 Its nice creation but the gate with all those spikes on the top is kinda weird, those spikes should be placed on the sides as well and I will recomend you to use those more wisely :) Quote
jlmdoval Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 Pics not available still. I am really looking forward seeing your Dol Guldur MOC! Quote
TheBear Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 Very nice MOC with lots of interesting details! The official set was so disappointing. Obviously they couldn't have done something this big but if they had done something smaller with the same feel as this it would have been much better. Quote
jlmdoval Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 Now I can see it. Really nice and far better than TLG one. Congrats! Quote
kreimkoek Posted February 24, 2014 Author Posted February 24, 2014 (edited) Pics not available still. I am really looking forward seeing your Dol Guldur MOC! Can you see the pictures now? I can see them again :) Its nice creation but the gate with all those spikes on the top is kinda weird, those spikes should be placed on the sides as well and I will recomend you to use those more wisely :) I think the orange spikes are fine, they should represent rusted metal. In the movie there is no special patern seen on the walls. Just a decaying fortress with walls that have metal spikes on them. for example: http://www.herr-der-...46-cb206770.jpg http://www.thelandof...TVSpecial19.jpg I agree that it may be a few too many spikes :) Very nice MOC with lots of interesting details! The official set was so disappointing. Obviously they couldn't have done something this big but if they had done something smaller with the same feel as this it would have been much better. The official set is pretty shitty but it had some great ideas. I took some aspects of it to use in my moc. Like the trees with the red leaves, the hanging skeleton, statues, the windows, etc... its amazing, it has lots of details Thank you, I tried to put in many details. But sometimes I did not have enough bricks to realise what i wanted. Awesome! Better than TLG's version! Thanks! Edited February 24, 2014 by kreimkoek Quote
Floundie Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 Wow, very nice! Great details all over here. I've been meaning to MOC my own Dol Guldur, after I've seen this I think maybe I will. Quote
Sir Brickalot Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 Fantabulous! (wow, I'm overusing that) Lots of little details, I love it! Quote

kreimkoek Posted February 24, 2014 Author Posted February 24, 2014 (edited) That is because he is Thrain. http://heirsofdurin....4_000118375.jpg On his way back to Erebor Thrain was captured as a prisoner in Dol Guldur. He was last seen by Gandalf in Dol Guldur before the events of the hobbit (according the books). Thrain gave the key of the lonely mountain to gandalf which he then gave to Thorin. Thrain died in Dol Guldur and so one of the seven dwarven rings was in Saurons possesion. Edited February 24, 2014 by kreimkoek Quote

Yeah, I know he was there in the books, but he's not there in DoS, so it's interesting that there's pictures of him. I'm wondering if those scenes are going to be in TABA. Quote
bachamn Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 Dol Guldur has a special role for me in Tolkien fandom. Years ago I acted as a developer for Tolkien MUD and one of my major projects involved writing descriptions and scripting code for the Dol Guldur zone. Really great work here, and I like the storytelling element you bring to it rather than simply posting photos (which you could get away with when it looks this good) :) Quote
h22chen Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 Excellent! I love the size and the attention to the different sections of the castle! Quote
TheLazyChicken Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 Wow! This is amazing! Keep up the good work! Quote
Gunman Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Hey thats a lot of pictures there! xDD All this darkness in the photos (lots of shades etc, a little lighting) was on purpose to give the moc a dark feeling?? If yes its ok but if you wanted to light up the scenes more dont use flash and go shoot the moc outdoors so we can see the details better. But overall lots of inderesting scenes and traps there! ZevesdroX Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 Looks amazing! Really like it a lot. Great job! Quote

The shadows and dark atmosphere were created on purpose. Dol Gulldur is dark and full of shadows, so I wanted to show this in the pictures. Almost all of the pictures were shot without flash. I have also shot some pictures outside in my garden. Dol Guldur has a special role for me in Tolkien fandom. What is Tolkien MUD if I may ask? Is it design for a website? Edited March 9, 2014 by kreimkoek Quote
