Captain Braunsfeld Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 (edited) [pid][/pid] Cannon MOC Other 3C Hello, we have seen some interesting custom-made cannons and mortars recently which got me inspired to create something myself. So, here is the Royal Horse Artillery testing out the latest mortar models: Some detail shots: I have always loved the Royal Horse Artillery (I used to have some plastic soldiers) and so I am very happy to have recreated them here. (I had the grey barrels for a long time not know what to do with them...) Have a nice Sunday! [New pics (October) below in the post!] Edited October 9, 2014 by Captain Braunsfeld Quote
ManInATopHat Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 Really cool mortars, but I think your soldiers are too nice for me to focus on the actual cannons. Great work! Quote
Captain Golden Hook Posted March 11, 2014 Posted March 11, 2014 Where did you get the grey barrels? Quote
Captain Braunsfeld Posted March 11, 2014 Author Posted March 11, 2014 I got them as a present from my brother-in-law. He says he's found them in Legoland Windsor some years back. The only model I know of, which made use of these, was the star destroyer (version 2). Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted April 13, 2014 Governor Posted April 13, 2014 Nothing like a good bombardment to completely wreck the enemies fortification! Custom torso designs I see - are they your own design? Quote
Captain Braunsfeld Posted April 27, 2014 Author Posted April 27, 2014 The torsos are not my design. I found them in some decal database - most likely it was somewhere in this forum (but I could not find it now). Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted May 1, 2014 Governor Posted May 1, 2014 The torsos are not my design. I found them in some decal database - most likely it was somewhere in this forum (but I could not find it now). Jolly good then! Bombs away! Quote
Captain Golden Hook Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 I have been lusting after grey barrels for a custom swivel mortar i made but i didn't know they existed. I am going to have to order some of bricklink! Quote
Captain Braunsfeld Posted May 19, 2014 Author Posted May 19, 2014 Dear Captain Golden Hook - you will be happy to hear that TLG have used grey barrels in their recent Star Wars sets (e.g. Mos Eisley Cantina - there is one in there...) They actually look a bit better than mine (which are "old dark grey" and hence a bit brownish). Quote
Capt. Stabbin Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 I'm not sure how I missed this. I really like the designs you have presented, and the figures are excellent! How did you make the hats? They are very nice! [bloggedcp][/bloggedcp] Quote
Captain Braunsfeld Posted May 22, 2014 Author Posted May 22, 2014 I am also very fond of the hats. There's a company in the Netherlands (am I allowed to mention their name here?) who does 3d printing. And one of the designers there does custom lego hats of the Napoleonic era. I have painted them following the way my father painted the plastic "Royal Horse Artillery" soldiers (made by a UK company) for me in the seventies. .. and one hat is the usual bicorne (maybe it was black and my wife added the white bits, thanks!). Thanks for blogging this! Quote
emilstorm Posted May 26, 2014 Posted May 26, 2014 Those are reallly cool mortars, very realistic Quote
James Wellington Posted July 27, 2014 Posted July 27, 2014 I love the Mortars. I have one of those Grey Barrels too, and I have no idea where I go it. Quote

Mikkie Hi AllezLesBleuxPX / Mikkie: you might want to take a look at: The great pirate torso LIBRARY (which is part of this forum) I think I might have used some of Woody's designs too: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=412466 On flickr you will find: LEGO Stickers & Decals I hope this helps. Captain Braunsfeld Posted October 9, 2014 Author Posted October 9, 2014 Hi! These mortars have drawn a surprising high level of interest. Therefore, I have prepared an update: The Royal Horse Artillery are trying out a new model: Surprisingly, at the same time, some other guys are working on their own mortar: Enjoy! Quote
