Murdoch17 Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 BackStory: The 1978 Nexus holds a special place in many peoples hearts. It was developed in 1977 by a small (at the time) manufacturer, Playwell Motors. The explosive Spring '78 release of the Nexus caused such a severe backlog for the tiny automaker that was not relived until late 1980. The car was available in a wide variety of colors, including black, white, green, blue, yellow, red, brown, lime green and the VERY rare orange. The orange nexus (seen here) was only supposed to be available as a prize for 5 lucky contestants for a contest to be the mini-figure to Captain the newest space ship, the Venture Explorer. The contest eventually was cancelled as the Venture Explorer was purchased by it's developer Doc Overbuild to look for the Imagination Nexus, which subsequently destroyed the Venture Explorer. The only one of the orange cars that had been built by this time was being used for promotional photo shoots, and was bought for quite a large sum by a movie company who then put it into storage. Bob the mini-figure found the car in 2010 in an abandoned warehouse and refurbished it himself. To date, this is the only official Orange Nexus in existence. Copies do try, but they are inferior compared to the original Orange Nexus! In reality, this car is based on the LEGO City Undercover cars, based on a file I found here: http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/365561 I spruced up the model and fixed some parts issues.... and yes, it is build able in all those colors in real life!! The release year was chosen as the modern mini figure was first produced in 1978. Top-down view showing your the sleek lines of his one-of-a kind car. Turbocharged engine with dual exhaust is a must when outrunning the Maelstrom.... and the camera man! Builder's notes: I realize this car is in my other topic, but it is so awesome I decided it needed it's own thread. Here are all the colors you can build of this car in real life, and here is the LXF to build them with: http://www.mocpages....1394735557m.lxf Comments, Questions, or complaints are all welcome! Murdoch17 Posted March 14, 2014 Author Posted March 14, 2014 Thanks everyone! I might get the orange one to go with my Bob mini figure from LEGO Universe.... if only I could make the wheels turn to hover mode, I could put it next to the De Lorean from Back to the Future & Nick Fury's car and Spiderman's bike from that MARVEL Super Heroes set! Any ideas / designs? Quote
