Jakon Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 (edited) After several months of construction, and a lot of hard work, the full barracks is finally complete. It comes with a full outfit of 12 soldiers, 2 Non-Coms and 2 Officers. Here it is in all of its glory. Here we see Lord Jakon, freshly arrived to inspect the facility, being greeted by it's commander. Here is a sergeant, surveying the yard. It was at this point that the dwarf realized that clearing snow with an axe would not be as fun as it sounded. The entrance, being guarded by two soldiers. Two mercenaries have decided to join up with a guild, and become legitimate soldiers. A sergeant is making sure that this new recruit is up to snuff. A soldier clears the roof of the armory/storehouse of snow. two logs, stacked, ready to be burnt. The inside of the top story. This is my axe, there are many like it, but this one is mine, my axe is my best friend... The inside of the bottom story, with two dwarves gambling. The bottom story with all furniture removed. The inside of the top story, with all furniture removed. Thats all folks! C&C please! HammerBro Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 Great build! I really like the pull up bar and the snow on the armory roof. Quote
soccerkid6 Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 Excellent phase 3 barracks My favorite bits are: the exterior staircase, I like this design a lot, though a railing on the outer edge would be fitting; the storehouse, and the large Mitgardian flag. The interiors look pretty good as well and you did a good job giving all your figs something to do Quote
Gunman Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 Lots of different figures and action there... Nice.. I really like you also got interior. GJ :) Quote
kabel Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 Really nice build Jakon! The modularity of that thing is definetely a very cool thing! Quote
Jakon Posted March 26, 2014 Author Posted March 26, 2014 Thanks for all the kind words everyone! @soccerkid6 I thought about doing a railing, but just couldn't get it to look the way I wanted it to, so I just scrapped it. Quote
Kai NRG Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Honestly I think you could have done a better job on the roof(s) here. I'll give you +1 for life in Mitgardia, but I don't think I can give you credit for fortification. I don't mean to be tough here, but I do want to be sure you putting forth some good effort. Quote
Scaevola Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Very nice build. The SNOTted interior is a nice touch. I might suggest you work on your texturing a little though. +1 UoP DoH for Anthropology and Fortification, but I agree with Kai on the roofing Quote
Jakon Posted April 2, 2014 Author Posted April 2, 2014 Thanks for the plus ones guys, however, I do feel the need to defend myself somewhat, first, I was specifically meaning the roof to the storehouse, not the tower, but I do understand, it's not particularly special, I was just proud of it. second, @Kai NRG in my personal opinion, this is one of, if not the best MOC I've posted on Eurobricks, so yes, I was actually putting forth effort. Lord Vladivus Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 Love the pull up bar and the soldier clearing snow off the roof! Quote
robuko Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 Very nice and detailed build Jakon. I like the studded base, it emphasises the old skool feel of the model. Really nice mini fig posing too. UoP +1 for anthropology and fortification. I do like what you have done with the storehouse roof but I think you can develop the idea further. I like the modular construction and the flag too, it is a really nice play set type build. Quote
Gideon Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 A suitable phase 3 entry if you ask me! Lots of figures and nice details, the clearing of snow off the roof is my favourite Definitely UoP +1 for Life in Mitgardia and a slightly more reluctant +1 for Fortification. I agree with previous comments however that what's in this build is not quite enough to show 'mastery' of a roofing technique. Quote
Jakon Posted April 3, 2014 Author Posted April 3, 2014 Well, as It is a consensus, I'll just retract my roofing claim. Thank you for all the positive feedback though! @Robuko I'll admit I actually did not mean to make it feel old school, but now that I see that it does I really like it! Quote
Gabe Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 There is a lot to like in this build Jakon. You have a good idea for minifig detail and seeing all the everyday activity really brings your tower to life. The stairs going up the side of the building, with the landing on the first floor is nice too, as is the small storehouse. A couple of things did niggle at me though - your first floor door is nicely recessed, but the ground floor door (and i assume the main door) is flat against the wall, which just doesn't look as good. (I assume recessed doors are better at keeping the snow and biting winds out too!) I'm also curious about the white plates at the top of the tower, that extend beyond the back of the whole diorama - are you planning to extend the build back further or something? Regarding UoP stuff, there is certainly nothing wrong or out of place about the storehouse roof, but i agree that for a credit, a larger, more detailed roof would be preferable to demonstrate mastery. By my count, at this stage you only need one credit for fortification, which i will gladly give you. Quote
Jakon Posted April 5, 2014 Author Posted April 5, 2014 Thank you very much for your kind words, and for the credit Regarding the plates extending back, that is actually just my fail attempt at smoke, more of an afterthought really, and as for the door, well, I actually didn realize that I hadn't recessed It, I'll pay more attention next time.
