Simon_S Posted June 16, 2014 Posted June 16, 2014 (edited) It was a beautiful sunny day in the green lands of Avalonia. Two Drow spies were on their way to see if Simon was ready for a war and if not, they wanted to attack him. Elder Drow: "Do you hear that queerish sound? It reminds me of the noise when ducks die..." Drow spy: "Where the heck did you grew up? It's clearly a bagpipe. Look there, they're constructing a new tower." Elder: "I think we should attack them and bring the building process to a stop." Spy: "No chance, they're too many. But we could try to make a treaty with them." Elder: "You know, they would never give away their lands for some money. But maybe for something else, which is more important than anything else... or do you maybe have some Herba Absynthii with you?" Spy: "No, I don't have any right now. I know what we could offer them..." Elder: "Oh Simon, the strongest and mightiest of all Avalonians. We brought you some apple pie." Spy: "And cherries and a cookie!" Elder: "Resign to us Drow, you can keep all your lands and your wealth and you even get good food." Simon: "Well, that's a bit of a problem. De Gothia already turned you down and if this wimp finds that kind of nerve..." Bagpiper: "Simon, we must be diplomatic now!" Simon: "... then I have the reputation to consider it with my friends." Elder: "Choose you next words carefully, they may be your last... as king." (epic music) Simon: "Hmmm... apple pie and cookies?" He drew his sword. Elder: "Madman! You're a madman!" Simon: "Apple pie and cookies. Are you kidding me?" Spy: "No man threatens a messenger!" Simon: "You bring the robbed apple pie of beaten Avalonians to my steps, insult my nation and threaten my people with slavery and death. I have chosen my words carefully, Drow. Perhaps, you should have done the same." Elder: " This is madness!" Simon: "Madness? This is AVALONIA!" Elder: "Aaaaaaaaaah!" To be continued... Torgar Posted June 16, 2014 Posted June 16, 2014 Really nice tower and scaffolding, and I love the figs! Quote
Yooha Posted June 16, 2014 Posted June 16, 2014 Ha-ha! Nice homage with the conversation. (and the tower looks nice of course) Quote
MassEditor Posted June 16, 2014 Posted June 16, 2014 Great story and scene Simon! Although the tower is very nicely done I think it is that wonderful scaffolding that sells this scene. I had to laugh at seeing the worker falling from the scaffolding (a workplace safety lawsuit to come next?) Quote
TheUtilityBelt Posted June 16, 2014 Posted June 16, 2014 "This is AVALONIA!!!" The story is great man! (It's pretty funny too!) The round tower is cool. I like the scaffolding. Good job! Quote
-Carson Haupt- Posted June 16, 2014 Posted June 16, 2014 I like the 2x2 jumpers with tooth plates. Probably my favorite part. Also I appreciate the fact that you didn't make all you peasants wear dark green. Quote
Lord Vladivus Posted June 16, 2014 Posted June 16, 2014 (edited) Haha great story! Brilliant build too. Love the towers texturing. Edited June 16, 2014 by Lord Vladivus Quote
Simon_S Posted June 16, 2014 Author Posted June 16, 2014 Really nice tower and scaffolding, and I love the figs! Thanks mate. Ha-ha! Nice homage with the conversation. (and the tower looks nice of course) Thank you. The story was heavily inspired by a scene in 300, when the persian diplomat comes to Leonidas' town. Here's a link for all who aren't familiar with that scene: Great story and scene Simon! Although the tower is very nicely done I think it is that wonderful scaffolding that sells this scene. I had to laugh at seeing the worker falling from the scaffolding (a workplace safety lawsuit to come next?) Thank you ME. The build was also made for a contest in the SwissLUG, which is about the theme "construction" (with a limitation of 16x16 studs, that's why I didn't go bigger), so that should be in the focus of it. "This is AVALONIA!!!" The story is great man! (It's pretty funny too!) The round tower is cool. I like the scaffolding. Good job! Thanks mate. I like the 2x2 jumpers with tooth plates. Probably my favorite part. Also I appreciate the fact that you didn't make all you peasants wear dark green. Yeah, I don't like uniformal look on peasants, so I included some other colours, why I still tried to bring in Avalonias standard colours. Thanks! Haha great story! Brilliant build too. Love the towers texturing. Thank you! Nice, great DC style tower Thanks. It's my first one I did... it surely takes a lot of time and bricks. Quote
Garmadon Posted June 16, 2014 Posted June 16, 2014 Ha, ha, nice story Impressive job with the tower, I really like the bands with jumpers However, as the others have mentioned, it is the awesome scaffolding that makes this build - great work Quote
Infernum Posted June 16, 2014 Posted June 16, 2014 Ha, ha, cool story! Love the figs and tower too, the blocks on the ground are great! Quote
mrcp6d Posted June 16, 2014 Posted June 16, 2014 Hehe, fun story, fun movie. Sweet construction scene, the scaffolding is really well done. Although, for Cat B, this is lacking some landscaping and whatnot--are you sure you don't want to stick this in Cat A? Quote
Hammerhand Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 (edited) Lovely tower, and the scaffolding looks great too! Nice story as well, I like the humor mixed in. Great job (Lord) Simon! Edited June 17, 2014 by Hammerhand Quote
robuko Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 Lovely tower, very nicely detailed and with beautiful presentation and photography. The scaffolding looks great and the guy falling off is hilarious. Quote

soccerkid6 Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 Reminds me of your entry for my Architecture challenge. Lovely tower and that scaffolding is sweet Quote
Simon_S Posted June 20, 2014 Author Posted June 20, 2014 Ha, ha, nice story Impressive job with the tower, I really like the bands with jumpers However, as the others have mentioned, it is the awesome scaffolding that makes this build - great work Thank you Garmadon! Ha, ha, cool story! Love the figs and tower too, the blocks on the ground are great! Thanks mate. The blocks are somehow just standard for medieval construction sites . Hehe, fun story, fun movie. Sweet construction scene, the scaffolding is really well done. Although, for Cat B, this is lacking some landscaping and whatnot--are you sure you don't want to stick this in Cat A? Thanks! How should I get this in the Cat A? I of course could have switched it to a ruined tower which the Drow are using as a hideout and Simons men who are spying them, but I was under time pressure (I also have my final exams on monday), so I just thought I enter it to B. Lovely tower, and the scaffolding looks great too! Nice story as well, I like the humor mixed in. Great job (Lord) Simon! Thank you! Lovely tower, very nicely detailed and with beautiful presentation and photography. The scaffolding looks great and the guy falling off is hilarious. Thanks robuko . I like to do some crazy minifig posings in such scenes, here's my other one I built some while ago for SKs contest: Yeah, I know, that's why I wrote "homage". I looked up the previous sentences and they are pretty similar, good job! I knew that you got it, but I wanted to post it for the others who maybe have seen the movie but didn't remember that scene. Althought, how can you forget this one? It's just epic. Ha Ha great story line. Thanks man . Reminds me of your entry for my Architecture challenge. Lovely tower and that scaffolding is sweet Thanks mate . Quote
Kayne Posted June 20, 2014 Posted June 20, 2014 Well, I'm not sure how I missed this the first time around, I guess the number of entries over the course of 2 days must have just put me behind. Anyway, I really like the build here, but the skill you exhibit in lighting and photography always make your builds absolutely pop when viewed. Great job again! Quote
Gunman Posted June 20, 2014 Posted June 20, 2014 Hey thats a lovely tower Simon... reminds me of Tower of Babel xD. Great levels and coolio minifig posing! Quote
Thomas of Tortuga Posted June 20, 2014 Posted June 20, 2014 The tower design looks really good, and the scaffolding is a nice detail. I think you should have added some brown cones in between the cylinders in the scaffolding, though, to add some extra interest. Nice work! Quote
Gideon Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 Very nice tower! As others have said, it's however the scaffolding that is the true star of this build Quote
-Horizon- Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 I really like the curved wall and how you built the walkway around it. Overall a great build, and can't wait for the Continued. Quote
Maxim I Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 Not only the Drow send some spies to this scene, Mpya Stedor as well. We want to use your "Construction site" technic in the future Quote
Mike S Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 Really great build! Both the tower and scaffolding are excellent! Quote
