Off the coast of Avalonia, a small Elven patrol craft lazily plys the water, whilst the bored Peregrinus scouts stationed on the cliffs above shiver in the damp. "Damn, i wish i was back in Baqua", grumbles one, "This posting is a waste of time - only one black ship sighted so far, and that vanishing in these accursed mists."

Suddenly there is a panicked shout from the ship, and the two scouts jump to thier feet. The water around the Elven boat is now roiling, and white, hideously gleaming creatures are hauling themselves onto the deck. It is the attack they feared would come! The elves seem hopelessly outnumbered, and the situation goes from bad to worse as the helmsman falls wounded. Suddenly, when all seems lost, bolts fly from the cliffs, knocking one ghoul from the stern, and impaling another to the gunwhale. The odds are evening up!

After a short, intense fight, the battle is won by the defenders. But the cost is great. One elf lies dying, the other wounded. The wounded elf waves up at the anxious scouts. "Have no fear! I will not berth, in case i am now infected with the plague - surely these creatures are in league with the black ships that terrorize the coast. I will set sail for open water and wait out my fate. Go, and inform the city guard of Calder of what you have seen - they must not be unprepared!"

Ok, so this is my rubbish Cat C entry, not entirely sure that it fits the category but i did it all in a bit of a rush last night. I wasn't going to pass up the opportunity of building another boat though! Thanks for looking and c & c welcome as always! :classic:

ps. I am also applying for the following UoP credits for this build: Minifig posing (General building), Still water (Hydrology) and Oceanside (Geography).

+1 UoP vote for General Building: Minifig Posing (although the Peregrinus scouts are fairly vanilla, the skeletons are excellent); Hydrology: Still Water (really digging the transition from shallow to deep) and Geography: Oceanside.

Heh, I always get so caught up in UoP credit that I forgot to say: I love the white figurehead on the ship, and I love that the ship is tilted ever so slightly - that tilt really makes the scene.

Very impressed that you got this in on time! I really like the way you did the vines on top of the rockwork! Great little ship as well. +1 for the UoP claims!

Cool build Gabe! I love the use of the Chima parts for the figurehead, works perfectly. And the ship is a nice throwback to the orient expedition one, which I also have. I'll have to try making a ship using that sail. :sweet: I also really like how you showed the water line, with the sea weed and then the dark tan to show wet sand, it looks great!

Great boat, Great action, Great water! That's an incredible build for a rush job, well played Gabe!

Thanks Robuko, i was really pleased to be able to get this one in on time, i wasn't sure i would make it. Thanks for the inspiration! :classic::thumbup:

Great build! Nice boat!

The action is superb..!

I really like the ship, and the water looks great!

Thanks guys, glad you like it! :classic:

Thanks nstickney and cheers for the UoP votes too! Haha yeah, "vanilla" about covers it for the entire cliff really, that whole section was a bit of an afterthought. Glad to hear that you thought the tilt worked, i really wanted to convey the sense that the skellies were rocking the boat as they tried to board her. :classic:

Nice, I like the water and the little ship. +1 UoP DoH for all claims

UoP DoH +1 for all claims.

Thanks Scaevola and gedren! :classic:

Cheers Kai, yeah i really pushed myself to get this one done, it's got to be the smallest Cat C i reckon! Cheers and thanks for UoP vote too!

Nice ship! I wouldn't have thought that the Orient Expedition sail would fit that well in Avalonia.

Thanks Simon and Hammerhand! Yeah i figured the sail would look ok 'cause of (a) dragons fitting in with Avalonian heraldry and (b) elves being weirdos who do what they want, Thor. Glad to hear you like the figurehead too, Hammerhand!

That's awesome! I love the water shading, and that sail works really nicely.

Cheers Carson, glad you like it! :classic:

Great entry, especially considering it was rushed! I love the foliage, the inclusion of green flowers is great! I agree with the others about the posing, nicely done! Very dynamic!

+1 to all of the credits. Great build Gabe, you need some sort of a new title like "Grand Admiral of Kaliphlin" or something along those lines!

Posted

Very, very nice! The water color transition is awesome, the boat is really cool, and you've communicated a clear sense of action. That said, my favorite detail is your attention to detail--specifically the logs and seaweed washed up on shore.

Cheers Kayne, thanks for the votes. :classic: Speaking of admirals, i wonder when the GNAR voting and wrap-up is happening?

Cheers mrcp6d, glad you like it! Yeah the floating weed was my solution to not having enough trans-blue plate to get the boat away from the shoreline... i didn't want to beach her!

Great scene, awesomely composed Gabe! I love the boat design although, considering your recent vessels, I imagine it was a challenge building such a small one!

Beautiful entry Gabe, I really like the skeletons geting out of the water... Nice touch!

p.s: Nice small ship there but I would prefer your big one from your signature xDD

Thanks MassEditor and Gunman for your kind words! Haha yeah it certainly is a change of pace from my other recent ships. Still, you can't always build big!

Great work here mate!

So many details to love here, such as the driftwood, the seaweed and the plants over the cliff!

Amazing stuff for a cat A entry, really like the water effect and the ship is also really neat!

Cheers deGothia and Kabel, i'm really glad that you liked my modest little build! :classic:

That water design is superb  Great beach and cliff too, the light green flowers on the normal green leaves give some nice contrast. The boat itself is excellent, I like the rudder  One thing I always appreciate about your builds is how you use log bricks in the sides of your rockwork for some nice texture :classic:
