Appie Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 When I read about the Mini contest, my first thought wasn't: I am going to enter, especially with all the awesome builders here and the buttload of cool entries! But I was thinking what I would make if I did. So after coming up with some ideas I decided on doing a dump truck, in which I would cram as much functions as I could. This being my first own MOC since my "dark ages", I had a blast exploring the possibilties of studless! So after a few days this is what I came up with: It has the following functions: - The bucket tilts (shocker I know ) - HoG steering (and working steering wheel in the cab) - Rear suspension - Openable doors - Tailgate lock (pushing it as a function? ) Now why isn't topic labelled with [MINI]? Because it has about 350 parts. I could adjust some stuff and get it to 300, but the last 100 I don't see happening even if I rebuild some stuff from scratch. Like putting in a mini LA for the bucket instead of my wormgear construction (which I chose on purpose instead of a LA in the first place). Maybe I will use one of my other ideas to enter the contest or maybe not My main reason for building this wasn't to enter anyway, but the contest did give me the idea to think of making a cool little model, so thanks for that Eurobricks Here are some more pictures: For the mirrors I actually want to use a different part and perhaps add a little 1x2 tile on it, but I didn't have any black (or red) left and LBG and DBG looked out of place, so these were a good second choice. Suspension at work! Hope you guys like it, thank you for your time reading this topic Quote
Alasdair Ryan Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 Very nice little truck. If this is a entry for the mini contest you will need to ask Jim or Blakbird to add [MINI] in the title. Quote
Bzroom Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 First studless moc!? Amazing. My mini entry is my 3rd studless moc and it's no where near this cool! Quote
N-4K0 Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 This could have been one of the top Mini entries if the part count could come down to 200 without ruining it. Good work nonetheless, you should indeed keep it like this Quote
Appie Posted June 19, 2014 Author Posted June 19, 2014 Thanks everybody for the kind words Very nice little truck. If this is a entry for the mini contest you will need to ask Jim or Blakbird to add [MINI] in the title. Actually I just now thought of a new model for the contest that I would really like to try and realise. Considering Blakbird's words of a mini model that would look like an official Lego set I think my new idea meets those criteria better than this one could even if I would manage to get this one below 200 parts, because even if I manage that I still think it looks like a 20-30 euro set. Rockbrick Posted June 20, 2014 Posted June 20, 2014 I'm thinking this one so far is my favourite... Quote
Eraman Posted June 20, 2014 Posted June 20, 2014 Amazing job, really like an official model, I would buy it Quote
SNIPE Posted June 20, 2014 Posted June 20, 2014 (edited) This could win who knows It looks almost like a future official lego model design Edited June 20, 2014 by SNIPE Quote
D3K Posted June 20, 2014 Posted June 20, 2014 For a first MOC this is great! Can't wait to see what you come up with in a couple of months! Quote
Lost_In_Noise Posted June 20, 2014 Posted June 20, 2014 Very nice work. I was surprised to see you've also included suspension:) Quote
hrontos Posted June 20, 2014 Posted June 20, 2014 This truck is really great. Very nice and compact design. I like it. The working suspension is exceptional in this scale. Quote
Appie Posted June 20, 2014 Author Posted June 20, 2014 (edited) This could win who knows It looks almost like a future official lego model design Wow, thanks! And thanks again to everybody else for your very kind words regarding this model But unless I can get it below 200 parts, I don't see it entering this contest. I am currently working on revamping a few things on this truck thanks to some tips I recieved, don't know if I can get it below 200 parts with that, but we will see. I still like to use my second idea too, so I am a little torn at the moment which to use for the contest Edit: well after trying out some new ideas, some worked and while they bring down the part count a little, it also alters the colour scheme I tried to achieve. So I don't really like it. Going to keep this model as it is and focus on my new idea for the Mini contest. Edited June 20, 2014 by Appie Quote
zweihander Posted June 22, 2014 Posted June 22, 2014 That is a fantastic moc. I love both the looks and the functionality. But i'm secretly hoping that you do not enter the competition with this, because my garbage truck and this look like each other. You'll see what i mean when i unveil mine in a couple of days. Quote
matelegotechnic Posted December 2, 2014 Posted December 2, 2014 where is the building instructions? Quote
Rishab N Posted December 2, 2014 Posted December 2, 2014 If there were instructions it would be mentioned in the topic Quote
Appie Posted December 3, 2014 Author Posted December 3, 2014 Matelegotechnic seems to be asking for instructions in alot of topics and just that... Anyway as pointed out, there are no instructions, but considering this model is easily taken apart in sections of parts I could make a few pictures of that since I still have the model on my shelf. Let me know if you (or others) would like that. Quote
LEGO Train 12 Volts Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 Great suspension system and cute model! Quote
Boulderer Posted December 6, 2014 Posted December 6, 2014 Anyway as pointed out, there are no instructions, but considering this model is easily taken apart in sections of parts I could make a few pictures of that since I still have the model on my shelf. Let me know if you (or others) would like that. I too would love to see the section photos, to get a better understanding of construction. I really like models on this small scale. Quote
Appie Posted December 8, 2014 Author Posted December 8, 2014 Sorry this took a while, but now I have alot (ALOT! ) photos for you guys showing pretty much everything (I hope). If you think some photos are too bright, you are correct. It is to show the black parts better. Sorry some pictures aren't as sharp as I'd like, but they still serve their purpose I think. If you wonder why some things changed compared to the pictures I posted back in June: I made some minor tweaks and also adjusted some stuff since I needed certain parts in other MOCs The pictures show the "mini assembly" of parts first and then a few pics follow which shows where each piece goes and how. If you have any questions after this wave of pictures, feel free to ask them. Enjoy your build! Quote
