Captain Braunsfeld Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 164A Ahoy, people have been asking my: Why do you post pirate houses, harbours and comics? Where are the ships? Well, here is one, it is an update: Captain Braunsfeld proudly presents: The HMS Poseidon (2.0.). And it is probably a galleon. Why am I saying this? Well, usually when I try to classify one of my ships in this forum, people go and say, well, Captain, it is all very nice but for a real paddle wheel steamer you need to be more accurate on the Mississippi underneath, etc. And then I get worried. Is my model really a ship of the line 3rd rate or rather a full rigged brig? Honestly, I don't know about this stuff very well. I build lego models to play with... The (currently small) crew consists of decent, trustworthy men: to handle the custom cannons/carronades. And the crew is, of course, fearlesss: And finally, the overall approach is modular. This is where the captain returns to his bottles of rum: err, I mean, where he heroically plans for the next battle. Some storage room is found practically everywhere: and the capstan is working!!!! More storage room: You can also remove the floor of the captain's cabin to store even more stuff: Ok, so here she goes - the HMS Poseidon (2.0) Enjoy the summer! Quote
Mutant Orc Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 Heh heh, I have no clue about boats either!! But this is a nice MOC, it's surprising how much room you've found for trapdoors and modular stuff in it! Quote

ManInATopHat Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 Great work, the modular aspect is so well done. By the way, it's hard to classify ships unless you start building with the clear intention of building a 44 gun fifth rate frigate for example. Lego's Imperial Flagship was marketed as a frigate or Man of War/Ship of the Line, but it only had a few guns, therefore making it inaccurate! I would say this looks a lot like a galleon (or maybe a brig), so you're not too far off! Quote
Ratshot Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 Those little cannons on the bow of the ship are great looking, the ship in general had a nice design to it, I like the color scheme you have used. My only suggestion is to add tiles for a smooth appearance on the decks. Overall great work Quote
Captain Golden Hook Posted July 7, 2014 Posted July 7, 2014 Nice, not the most HISTORICALLY ACCURATE but a wonderful in between for playability and realisticness (not a word but you get the point) Quote
Sebeus I Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 I love the accessibility via the modular sections and hatches, I used to build my ships just like that. In someway I do regret my shift in building style, oh well, a ship will always be a compromise . Keep them coming. people have been asking my: Why do you post pirate houses, harbours and comics? Where are the ships? I don't see anything wrong with that, I wish I would make some more harbours and houses so I could atleast dock my massive fleet somewhere . Quote
Kolonialbeamter Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 Ahoy Captain, I like it, it's colorful and equipped with a lot play features. That fearless lookout boy is just fabulous Don't know what Poseidon classifies for, but that doesn't matter in my eyes, as long as your kids honor your creation by playing with it Well done, Regards, KB Quote
ummester Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 (edited) I also like the colour and the little functional areas Captain. The sail plan would make the Poseidon 2 a galleon according to the classifications used on this forum, I think. A square rigged fore and main mast with at least 1 lanteen rigged sail on the mizzen mast. Galleons are the only ship types I have really been studying - there is something about them I just like. The Poseidon 2 has a beam for a largish square sail on the bowsprit, which is a 'classic' galleon element. The only part of a classic galleon missing from your build is the quarterdeck. Captain Braunsfeld Posted July 15, 2014 Author Posted July 15, 2014 My only suggestion is to add tiles for a smooth appearance on the decks. I know, I know. Ships with tiles on deck look great and have more realisticness. But my ships need to be played with - and with tiles with minifigs keep falling down... The sail plan would make the Poseidon 2 a galleon according to the classifications used on this forum, I think. I accept. By the way, it's hard to classify ships unless you start building with the clear intention of building a 44 gun fifth rate frigate for example. Well. given that I would like to combine any new ship with the existing old ones, I probably cannot go for a 44 gun ship. It would turn out too big in comparison (and my harbour is too small ) So what I can do is to try and capture the "feel" of it. What I might try one day is to make a decent model of a small ship (brig?). Some guys here in the forum have done this in an excellent way. Quote
Loves Houses Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 This ship must look gorgeous when it arrives in the harbour. Maybe, could you add a picture with some pirate and harbour houses in the background? Small-ish... I like the fearless crew, very convincing. Quote
cullmancreations Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 this ship is great. there is so much room. I cant wait to see what you make next Quote
ArchitectureFan Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 Nice build! Doesn't the ship need to be higher behind the bow in order to be a galleon? I like the brave crew! Quote
