Governor Mister Phes Posted June 6, 2007 Governor Posted June 6, 2007 I think these are quite good. Which program did you design them in? Quote
Tyger Posted June 6, 2007 Author Posted June 6, 2007 I think these are quite good. Which program did you design them in? Thank you, glad you like them! I know ppl may be getting tired of the POTC stuff, but it seemed like a good place for my first custom, since there is ample reference. I used Photoshop, but mostly the pen tool and the vector shapes... I thought about using Illustrator but stuff with PS CS2. Cheers! Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted June 6, 2007 Governor Posted June 6, 2007 Obviously Illustrator is very similiar to Photoshop since they're both produced by Adobe, but I think Illustrator has slightly better vector design tools. I suppose that because Illustrator is intended for the purpose of design vector objects while Photoshop is an all round image editor. Have you done any other torso designs? Quote
Tyger Posted June 6, 2007 Author Posted June 6, 2007 Yah easily could have used either one. Have you done any other torso designs? No these were my first attempts at making a custom Minifig of any kind. I wanted to make a custom but one that could blend with Official figs... I'm plan to make a few more over the next couple days, but thought I'd try these first and see how well received they were and see what needed work type of thing. Quote
sparrow Posted June 6, 2007 Posted June 6, 2007 Those are some pretty good torso you got there. I like your face design although it is acurate i reckon you should make a more clueless looking one as well with the nice "oh" jack sparrow face *sweet* just my 2cents Sparrow Quote
Lamanda2 Posted June 6, 2007 Posted June 6, 2007 Very nice! I love how Lego-like these are, looks very nice indeed. Would you mind if I printed me off a torso for a nice custom pirate? ~Amanda Quote
SirScottLego Posted June 6, 2007 Posted June 6, 2007 Great lines and very clean. I think you found the right harmony between detail and size. Would love to see more of your work! Quote

Eurobricks Emperor Bonaparte Posted June 6, 2007 Eurobricks Emperor Posted June 6, 2007 (edited) Excellent work!!!! These will make some great additions for our torso library. But before I add them, could you make a separate .jpg-file for each torso (and the face)? Some rough guidelines for the torso's in the library are: dimensions: 360pixels - 300 pixels resolution: 600dpi - 600dpi Edited June 6, 2007 by bonaparte Quote
Brick Miner Posted June 6, 2007 Posted June 6, 2007 i like these a lot ty... they look very LEGO-like to me. i especially like that you used an official LEGO face design as a bases for jack sparrow. it really helps convey the LEGO "feel". also, the use of varying line weights around the collar and belt help this. glad to see that you are trail designs are with the pirate theme... now you can bring these perfected skills over to the WW :-P - Brick Miner Quote
oo7 Posted June 6, 2007 Posted June 6, 2007 Out of all the many POTC customs I've come across, this one stands out the most. It's relatively simple but very, very nice. It does look just like official Lego. It's also great how you integrated an exact duplicate of the Rascus head in there instead of making something ugly. link Quote
Tyger Posted June 6, 2007 Author Posted June 6, 2007 Excellent work!!!!These will make some great additions for our torso library. But before I add them, could you make a separate .jpg-file for each torso (and the face)? Of course... I'll do that as soon as I get home. glad to see that you are trail designs are with the pirate theme... now you can bring these perfected skills over to the WW :-P - Brick Miner Thank buddy. *sweet* WW is definately my next stop :) It's also great how you integrated an exact duplicate of the Rascus head in there instead of making something ugly. Yah, I figured the head would give it more of an authentic feel and just to match Johnny Depp's smirk from the films I mirrored it and gave him a bit of a shave for accuracy... I'm really glad these are so well recieved. :) Quote
