IenjoyLego89 Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 Just another quick freebuild (only noticed that the camera angle is a bit wierd ) Wanted to to try and improve the texturing for the grass on my builds, so hopefully I pulled it off. Also wanted to see if I can try and improve my trees I also wanted to attempt blood splatter and posing for the dead minifig, not sure if it worked All C&C welcome Quote
Garmadon Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 Nice build, IenjoyLego, great minifig posing and foliage As for the trees, I wouldn't advise putting both those kinds of trees next to each other like that, as they are two entirely different styles Interesting angle on the first pic as well Nice job! -Carson Haupt- Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 I like it! Really feels like the edge of a clearing to me. Quote
mccoyed Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 Yeah, the foliage and posing are top notch. I do think you pulled off the blood spatter effect nicely. I agree with Garm about the trees, though. Quote
Hammerhand Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 Good job on the dense foliage, it really works well. I actually kind of disagree with Garm and Mcc, as the mix of pine and deciduous trees is pretty usual in a forest. Quote
de Gothia Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 Looks really great with your minifigs! I'm with hammerhand in the tree debate!:) mixed forests are very common. Quote
Gunman Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 Great minifig posing and splatter effect man...!! Quote

My criticism is just that it needs a bit more development, then, to evoke that nice mix. Maybe a few more trees or some color variation would have given it that effect better, I'm not sure! Quote

Thanks Garmadon :) I was sitting on the fence of whether putting the pine trees in but I wanted to see how they worked :) ha the first angle is intriguing ha :) I like it! Really feels like the edge of a clearing to me. Thanks Carson Haupt :) Yeah, the foliage and posing are top notch. I do think you pulled off the blood spatter effect nicely. I agree with Garm about the trees, though. Thanks mccoyed :) I think I'm going to be more careful with my tree selection next time lol but I'll keep it in mind for my next build :) Good job on the dense foliage, it really works well. I actually kind of disagree with Garm and Mcc, as the mix of pine and deciduous trees is pretty usual in a forest. Thanks Hammerhand. That's what I was going for with the foliage. I must order a lot more of those leaf pieces soon :) Looks really great with your minifigs! I'm with hammerhand in the tree debate!:) mixed forests are very common. Thanks de Gothia :) didn't think I would cause such a split over trees haha :) Great minifig posing and splatter effect man...!! Cheers Gunman, :) That's a good point. My criticism is just that it needs a bit more development, then, to evoke that nice mix. Maybe a few more trees or some color variation would have given it that effect better, I'm not sure! Unfortunately I don't own a vast selection of leaf pieces or pieces for trees :/ pretty much my entire collection is in that moc :( but I'll try and order some soon and keep your advice in mind for the next time :) Quote
IenjoyLego89 Posted August 24, 2014 Author Posted August 24, 2014 Looks great! Thanks vitreolum :) Quote
Scaevola Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 Nice scene, very lush, appealing foliage. Nice job with the trees as well, though the taller ones could use some more leaves. Quote
Yzalirk Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 Very nice MOC and it's good to see some tests from time to time, I think you did good with it. Quote

Thanks Scaevola, I agree that they could use more leaves but I ran out unfortunately :/ Very nice MOC and it's good to see some tests from time to time, I think you did good with it. Thanks behemoth :) I got to start testing more and try and improve my building skills Quote
Mike S Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 The underbrush is excellent! The trees however I think could use some tinkering. The leafy ones are too flat and the spiky ones are too narrow in my opinion. Not sure what pieces you have available but maybe you can try some different designs? Quote
Bregir Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 I really like the landscaping, and it really does look like he fell in the middle of the undergrowth. Well done. Quote
Lord Vladivus Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 Nice! I like the leafy feel! Great blood spatter too! Quote
mccoyed Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 You did a lot with a little, then, I'd say! Quote

Thanks Mike S :) unfortunately trees ain't my strong suite. But I'm gonna try and improve it in the next couple of builds I have planned. soccerkid6 Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 Very good foliage on the ground To help your trees not be so top heavy, you can place the leaf elements at various heights on the trunk: Quote
