gedren_y Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 Welcome to the Nestlands Trading Post! Here you'll find paints, pigments, dyes (for hair and cloth), rare herbs, fine weapons in the Nestlands style, and three journeyman craftsmen ready to take commissions. The proprietor's name is Yhllip Prws. The three craftsmen are Joc Rud, Gwylm Kensy and Dugl Duhbgehs. ----------------------- A little history on the building: Located in the market district of Mpya Stedor, it began as nothing more than a stone warehouse for storing ale that hasn't had time to age. Some time in the late expansion of Mpya Stedor Apothecary Tolin leased the space, and renovated the exterior to be more eye catching. The north and south walls were given some low curving additions, the small windows were surrounded by a light blue paint, two columns were installed on the front corners, the doorway was widened and given an arch, and a small gable was installed with additional arch supports. Apothecary Tolin plied his trade there for quite some time, making and selling ointments, unguents, and restorative herbal teas. This all changed just before the Battle of Mpya Stedor. For a few weeks before the battle, Tolin was experimenting with a small amount of 'exploding powder' that he acquired from a strange source. He thought that he could reproduce the powder, and maybe improve upon it. Make it an effective weapon to repel the horde most knew was on its way. No one is certain how all the powder was ignited at once, but witnesses claim to have seen a blinding white flash, then a large plume of black smoke. Next the flames roared to life, causing most of Tolin's wares to ignite. The building was nothing more than a smoldering shell when the fire was finally put out. Luckily no other buildings were damaged by the fire, Unluckily Tolin's body was blown into tiny shards of bone and lumps of flesh, that were subsequently cooked by the fire. Only a few fragments of bone survived well enough to be collected for burial. Some time after the Battle of Mpya Stedor, the building and lot were purchased by the Blue Walkers Trading Company out of the Nestlands. The Company rebuilt the interior, added the large eagle head carvings, completely redesigned the roof, and repainted the exterior (preserving the original paint around the windows). Additionally, a small alter was placed in the loft where any Nestlands faithful is welcome to pray. ----------------------- Today outside the Nestlands Trading Post: It is mid afternoon in Mpya Stedor, the building's door is closed, and the windows are shuttered. Gwylm Kensy's current work, new tabletops for a restaurant and inn. Joc Rud has finished his commision for the Aslanic Order soldiers. It is assumed these large carvings are intended to be placed outside the soldiers' barracks. Dugl Duhbgehs is repairing armor for a battle camel. Lady Eddira Rendelberry has been waiting several minutes, wondering why the trading post is closed on such a nice day. She is looking to buy more hair dye. Squire Rikhard 'Redbird' Greisun spies the Lady Rendelberry waiting impatiently. He had been meaning to find time to speak with her alone, but keeping troops well prepared to defend the city leaves little time for courting. "Good Lady," Rikhard cooed joyfully, "Why are you waiting here in the sun, at this time of day? Don't you know?" "Know what, good Squire?" Eddira rejoindered, "Why Lady Rendelberry, these Nestlands men are at their daily prayers," Rikhard says softly, "They will be at it for at least an hour, or more. Please allow me to escort you to the Court Dining Hall, where you may wait with a cool drink. On my account." The Lady is about to take the Squire's hand when one of the Market Guards (a greedy sot) spies them and begins to rush over. In his head, there is an idea that the Squire is making some kind of deal with the Lady, and he wants in. However, he slows to a stop short, with a scared stupid grin, when the Squire glares at him for his intrusion on the private moment. -------------------------------- More details of the building. The carvings are a stylized representation of the Armored Eagle Goddess. They were brought all the way from Cobalt Vale, and mounted with care by expert masons. The roof is a new design intended to provide perches and roosting for the local birds. Anyone who tries to harm any birds in the vicinity of this trading post will be reported, and banned from the premisses. (OOC: Brickarms crates!) (OOC: Best image I could get of the window shutter. Lid to a Brickarms crate.) ------------------------------------- Comments appreciated. I am also seeking UoP DoH credits. Architecture: Roofing (1 of 3) Anthropology: City Scene Quote
Maxim I Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 Very nice trading post Gedren! i love the hints to the Nestlands like the two statues :) It is a very popular spot in North Stedor :) I am not sure how I will incorporate it as I don't have some of those fancy bricks. Probably I will focus on the sightmarks :) Quote
Lord Vladivus Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 Nice! Good to see the trading post up and running after Tolin's accident! Quote
Gunman Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 I really like the camel battle armor ;) Nice moc dude! Quote
Thomas of Tortuga Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 Nice! I really like the roosts on the roof! Quote
IenjoyLego89 Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 Cool moc :) like the design of the eagle heads :) Quote
Yzalirk Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 Nice little trading post and I do like how you did the roof. Quote
Scaevola Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 (edited) Very nice moc, really cool color scheme and those mounted bird statues really identify the building with the Nestlands. Great idea for the door as well +1 UoP DoH for all claims Edited August 28, 2014 by Scaevola Quote
gedren_y Posted August 29, 2014 Author Posted August 29, 2014 Very nice trading post Gedren! i love the hints to the Nestlands like the two statues :) It is a very popular spot in North Stedor :) I am not sure how I will incorporate it as I don't have some of those fancy bricks. Probably I will focus on the sightmarks :) Don't worry about reproducing it. The initial idea for the placement of this in Mpya Stedor is somewhere behind several larger buildings. The building's history suggests that it was originally just a warehouse for a more important marketplace purveyor. The remodelling has made the place more impressive than the location would normally warrant. Nice! Good to see the trading post up and running after Tolin's accident! Yeah, "accident." The story of Tolin is used as a cautionary tale against reckless experimentation. Maybe DM can do a vig of a Mpya Stedor University Professor recounting the tale to his/her class. I really like the camel battle armor ;) Nice moc dude! I just happened to have that large figure armor and the new brick separator on my table, When I found that the armor fit onto the separator, I had to use it. Camel armor just seemed like the most likely justification for including it. Nice! I really like the roosts on the roof! Nice little trading post and I do like how you did the roof. The Nestlands Clans worship the Armored Eagle Goddess. Of course they are going to do something to attract birds. If one of them dies, his body will be offered to the birds. The form of the roof is actually the result of my limited supply of reddish brown tiles. Cool moc :) like the design of the eagle heads :) I had those already built for quite some time, as the original build they were made for got demolished by a cat. The form is based off of the nose-cones of two Chima vehicles. Very nice moc, really cool color scheme and those mounted bird statues really identify the building with the Nestlands. Great idea for the door as well +1 UoP DoH for all claims Varying shades of blue are common in the Nestlands, due to the abundance of cobalt in the region. The door design is something I've been playing with ever since I bought the Brickarms crates. I used the real Lego doors as part of the roof. Quote
robuko Posted August 29, 2014 Posted August 29, 2014 Love all the blues Gedren, and the bird heads and Chima shields are very characterful. It is famously tough to photograph white Lego, and I would advise using a different color for your backdrop next time. I really like your roof solution, it's very creative. Quote
Mike S Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 Nice build! It reminds me a little of one of the buildings from Age of Empires which is a good thing because I loved that game. Also great little story to go along with it as well! Quote
