Gabe Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 I'm sure many of you have wondered how Kaliphlin produces such stunning and detailed maps of it's lands? Well, i am here to enlighten you! The geography department of the University of Petraea have a secondry campus high in the Rakath mountains near Qarkyr, where they maintain several great griffins for aerial surveys. These magnificent beasts are related to the lowlands griffins that have been seen on the escarpment around Queenscross, but are much larger and can fly much higher and further than thier smaller cousins. They are not as fierce as the lowlands griffins either, and are normally very shy and rarely seen in the wild. However, the geography department's griffins have been raised from eggs and are devoted to thier handlers and riders. Here we see Gex Marmota returning from one of his frequent aerial surveys. He has a good bond with the griffin Brindular, and usually flies with him. On high surveys he eschews his usual headgear for a fur-lined hood - it gets cold up there! A Nestlands gaurd stands watch - the department has good relations with the nearby Nestlands clan, and pays well for local security. The adventurer Erynlasgalen is also visiting the department, and is keen to find out more up to date information to assist her in her next expedition. Hope you have enjoyed my build, c and c welcome as usual! Quote
the lego dwarf Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 Wow the build is amazing. I like the nest and the scene behind as well. Quote
Gideon Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 Excellent creature! I had hoped that you would make an entry My favorite part is the head and the whole front section of the creature. The top notch background is also giving it a very suitable setting. Quote
Thomas of Tortuga Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 That's a gorgeous griffin. Also, the background is perfect. You're making me want to build something in Nestlands now! Quote
Lord Vladivus Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 Very cool! That griffon is amazing, and the base really showcases it! Quote
gedren_y Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 The complete package, Gabe! Beautiful tower, detailed wall, awesome griffin, and the figs are just icing on the cake. Thanks for including a representative of the Cobalt Vale City Guard. The Minister of External Affairs, Aturl Prndrn, will be pleased that his attempts at good relations with the neighboring Kaliphlin communities and the University of Petraea have borne fruit. Griffins, being part bird, are covered under the protection statutes of the Nestlands Clans. Quote
Yzalirk Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 I'm impressed, that Griffin is just jaw-dropping and it was an awesome idea, very nice job. And I like how you added the nest below it, that was a nice idea too. Quote
Gunman Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 Awesome entry Gabe.... One of my favourites for sure... Such a perfect mount design and background also. Awesome 100% Quote
Scaevola Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 Excellent work, the griffin is very well shaped and posed. The nest fragments are a well-appointed detail as well Quote
-Carson Haupt- Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 This is beautiful! I was going to try a griffin, but couldn't pull off anything this good! Quote
TheUtilityBelt Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 This is a great entry! I like the nest and the building in the back. But most of all, I like the griffon! Quote

TenorPenny Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 A very noble steed. Lots of poise in a relatively small model..! Nice work. Quote
Hammerhand Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 Beautifully done Gabe! You achieved some amazing shaping, and it looks so great! The blending between the eagle and lion parts is perfect. Quote
Gabe Posted August 31, 2014 Author Posted August 31, 2014 Thanks for the kind words everyone, I'm glad you like my griffin! No worries! Apologies for not asking you beforehand, i had the idea for the setting quite late and it was a bit of a rush just to get it done. I figured though that the Nestlands would be very interested in the well-being of griffins near thier territories. Excellent creature! I had hoped that you would make an entry Thankyou! I hoped so too, work has been so busy lately! Quote
Infernum Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 Great entry Gabe! The mount is awesome, and that background is great! Quote

Maxim I Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 So many details on such a small base!! How you managed to make a house on the cliffs, to make a nest for the beast, ... So perfect! Quote
robuko Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 Absolutely outstanding Gabe. Really great shaping for the beast, the rake of the neck and chest is perfect and the wings are so life-like. The backdrop is fabulous too, and you have embedded the set up beautifully into Kaliphlin lore. Superb! Quote
